Detroit? Doesn't make a lot of sense.
On the other hand, don't expect BP to leave in a way that is best for the franchise....he's left teams high and dry before...I'm expecting he'll do it again.

They said last night on Total Access that there was a rumor about BP to Detroit. Same rumor that was around weeks ago. Still smells like bull.

He also gave out a disclaimer-most of these time, these Parcells-going to other teams rumors turn out to be moot.

of that i can agree. : ) i understand why people do, but all others are doing are simply guessing. detroit? maybe more $ would be his motivation. face it, at his age not too many multi-million $$$ a year jobs are going to present itself. millen needs to hire a strong person and parcells *would* fit that job.
wanna see some speculation? if bp does go to detroit, will bledsoe follow? : )

Schefter elaborated on this on NFL Total Access yesterday, when Eisen asked him what the "craziest" story he'd heard all day on "Black Monday" was. Schefter emphasized that although he still thought it was the longest of longshots, it was a story that multiple people kept mentioning to him throughout the day and that it just wouldn't die.

Yeah-he'll probably take a year off before he goes there-that way, the Lions will get him for free.

And to add... John Clayton on his blog mentioned Russ Grimm the OL coach for Pitt as tops on Millen's HC list.
More on searches: Steelers offensive line coach Russ Grimm is going to be a big player in the Detroit Lions' search once it begins. Interim coach Dick Jauron isn't expected to be retained. Grimm has always been a favorite of Lions president Matt Millen; some people think Grimm is the leading candidate. The Packers made contact with the Steelers and plan to interview Grimm over the weekend.
Jim Haslett's phone wasn't quiet Monday after he was fired by the Saints. The Lions are expected to set up an interview for later this week, possibly as early as Thursday. Haslett should hear something from the Lions on Tuesday. Haslett left the Saints with one year remaining on his contract at $3.2 million.

Agreed and a lot of it is on the Offensive side of the ball

And to add to that...BP's expertise is rebuilding defenses.
BP and Bledsoe to Detroit...1 or 2 1st rounders to us.

I actually like there personel on both sides. Defensively, they have an excellent front 7, talent wise.
Cory Redding (starting to understand the NFL has the physical ability to play a 34 OLB), Rogers, Wilkerson, Hall, Kalimba Edwards, Shawn Cody out of USC and that kid Swancutt out of Oregon on the DL. They have Holmes and Bose Baily at LB. In the secondary they have Dre Bly, RW McQuarters Andre Goodman. They got some things to work with.
Parcells really gets a bad rap for leaving teams high and dry. Truth is, he has had good reasons to leave each team he has left.
Giants- Health Reasons
Patriots- Wanted more control over personnel
Jets- Left after the owner died and didn't want to be part of the new regime.
Tampa- flirted with coaching them, but with a pending divorce he didn't want his ex geting any of his new fat contract.
So, what has Parcells really done wrong?

Agree. I think this is what Parcells is really looking for, a G.M. job, which he knows he will never get in Dallas.
I believe he wants to be closer to New Jersey, that's why the Jets G.M. rumor makes some sense.
For everyone who is blindly saying Parcells is coming back, I think it's time for us to wake up and realize he might have something "cooking" that we don't know about.

As long as we are compensated for letting him go. Detroit and the Jets have good draft spots. A 1st from either of those teams gives us 2 1st rounders in the top 18...Not too shabby.

Now getting a First rounder (or more) would be nice....IF and only IF we would get a decent HC to come here and not some scrub puppet coach.

Just for speculation: Do extra first round picks as a result of a Parcells exit become the deal clinchers that pull Jimmy Johnson out of the Fox studio? He certainly does place a very high value on the draft.

Millen will make Parcells the highes paid coach in the leage. He is also tryin to divert attention away from himself. He does not care about the franchise becuause if the did he would have quit this year. He will give up high picks to land Parcells and quite the fans. BP might leave the cowboys to make more money in Detroit. Yes, Detroit will have to give up draft picks. Many posters are saying you can't trade coaches for picks, but this is simply untrue. Look on www.profootballtalk.com (http://www.profootballtalk.com/). Jimmy Johnson already said he will never coach again. Having two extra number ones in Dallas might change his mind. He could get a frachise quarterback and frachise reciever to compliment our young defense.

They could be turned around in one season just like we were.

I disagree about Detroit being ready to be turned around. All those high picks on O that have busted are a big albatross around their neck, and they have much worse defensive pieces than we had when Parcells got here. They've got Rogers, Dre Bly, and maybe Kalimba Edwards. Who are their LBs? Except for Edwards, they're smaller 4-3 players just like were here. Does he want to start a multi-year overhaul of that defense like he did here, only without Ware, Spears, and Canty? Not to mention Bradie, Roy, Newman, and Henry?

I think this rumor is a joke but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Detroit GM encouraging/spreading it to show he really going after a how profile coach just to save his own neck. When whole story falls apart, he then can claim he tried but Parcells wouldn't leave the Cowboys.
If Parcells taking time to just reevaluate his desire to continue coaching in lite of brother's death and long distance from family, moving to Detroit sure isn't the answer. I just don't see this happening unless he in some kind of major financial mess and needs megabuck contract (like $6-$10M salary yearly) this isn't going to happen. Of course Parcells himself could lend some credence if he wishes to get little more money out of JJ and/or stop any effort JJ might think about doing re signing TO, etc. I don't think Parcells particularly wanted Peerless Price but JJ did. While a good fallback should Glenn get hurt, Parcells wants WRs who give their all for the team; blocking, etc.

Yeah they need a QB, but except for Roy Williams, I can't say their other WRs have established themselves... C. Rogers is a bust on the verge of being cut. Mike Williams is still unproven... and then you have who?
Their DL is nice. Their LB corp needs to gets healthy. But they need DBs, cuz other than Dre Bly, who else do they have?
And really the biggest shift would be like the 'boys. They need an attitude adjustment. They gotta get rid of the loser mentality.

I agree with you on the attitude part. I just think that youth is a huge issue for this team. I said this earlier in the year and I still believe it. They have talent but in a WC offensive scheme, you don't learn that overnite. You need to have lots of time in it and Detroit just has too much youth offensively to make it work IMO.
I look at this team defensively and I see the personel to play the 34 already there.
Rogers and Cody would be excellent DEs in a 34. Wilkerson was made for a 34 NT position. Earl Holmes is 6-2 245 and could fit well as an ILB in a 34. Boss Bailey is 6-3 240 with outstanding athletic ability. He, along with Redding and Edwards would fit well as OLBs in a 34 IMO. You have Bly and the young kid Goodman who I believe has some ability. You've got McQuarters as your nickle back. I could see it happening if they elected to go that way.
Offensively, you have some talent at WR but you just need to let it mature. You have three really excellent talents at RB, something BP likes anyway. On the OL, you have talent all be it young. You have the young OT Butler out of Purdue who has as much physical talent as you will find at the position. Actually, he reminds me a lot of Adams. You have Jeff Backus, an excellent young RT out of Michigan. You have Damian Woody who is as good a center/guard as there is out there. You got Kosier who is in his first year in the offense as a bit of a question mark but who knows? Lastly, You have Domanic Raiola, a good technical center but a bit undersized. All in all, not a bad group to start with on the OL IMO. I think you need a couple of TEs and who can say about the QB position? Harrington's numbers are not electric but in a Parcells offense, he would not be asked to do nearly as much. You have Orlovsky there as well.
I do believe that a coach like Parcells could have a profound effect on a team like Detroit.

Exactly. I was thinking this earlier. And was searching any post that brought this up, before I started a thread about it. But it would cost whatever JJ wanted and Detroit was willing to give. Even their whole draft.
