Vikings | Childress chosen as new head coach; must now reach contract
Thu, 5 Jan 2006 16:35:10 -0800
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Minnesota Vikings have chosen Brad Childress, formerly the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles, as their new head coach. The two sides have begun negotiations and as long as they can work out contract terms, the team is expected to name him their head coach Friday, Jan. 6, at a press conference.
Good, one more piece for Philly to replace.

I'm not sure I want payton gone lets face it if he leaves then BP will once again start calling the offensive plays and I'm not sure I want that. Not that Payton had much freedom this year but come on....

I'm really in between on Payton. We have no idea how good or bad he really is.
If he leaves, I'm alright with that. If he stays, that's okay too

Does this mean that Minnesota is going to center their offense around dump off passes?

We do not want to lose Payton. He is one of the best OC's out there.

Really.... BP has said all year that he's let Payton call the plays and only from time to time had he disagreed with what Payton was wanting to do. BP even said he would tell Payton what he wanted at the start of the week and sean would put the Offensive game plan together then BP and the staff would go over it. So it sounds to me like Sean had pretty much his way in choosing which plays to put in and when to call them except for a few times when BP told him a specific play he wanted.

Hhahaha
You guys are crazy :)
But I saw alot of footage on the sideline where Bill would be yelling at Payton if the play didnt work or something went wrong.
I dont think Bill would be doing that if Bill was calling the plays...he would just yell at himself :D .

I think this is a good move on Minnesota's part.
Only problem I see is I have to wonder if they interviewed any minority coaches.

I wonder if this spells the end for Culpepper there. Childress' offense doesn't seem to fit his skill set other than his mobility.
Bad hire - Isn't he old?
A dagger to Eagles D continuity - great for us!

I think Bill is teaching Payton how to manage a game. Some of you may disagree and believe that Bill runs a conservative, stagnant offense - I prefer controlled - and I think if he can teach Payton that balance which he seems to lack sometimes, I think he could become a great one.

How does losing their OC hurt the defense?
My bad - the old guy is the DC.
Still good for us.

If we keep screwing around waiting for Parcells to decide if he's coming back, all of the good candidates will be gone.

Not that I agree with the policy, but what black coach did they interview first?
Guys doing the interview gig now are not better than Parcells.

There is no one out there that could do better than one play off loss in three years?

Brad Childress, the Eagles' offensive coordinator since 2002, has accepted the head coaching position of the Minnesota Vikings and will be introduced to the Vikings' media at a noon (ET) press conference.
The Eagles will likely have a comment, and perhaps a move to replace Childress, later in the day on Friday.
Childress joined the coaching staff in 1999 as the team's quarterbacks coach. His immediate task was to bring rookie quarterback Donovan McNabb up to speed and he did that very well. McNabb became the starting quarterback late in the 1999 season and then was a Pro Bowl player after the 2000 season.
Childress replaced Rod Dowhower as offensive coordinator in 2002. The speculation is that the Eagles will replace Childress with assistant head coach Marty Mornhinweg, who has been with the Eagles for three seasons in that capacity. The Eagles have issued no comment at this time, but with the coaching staff scheduled to go on vacation next week, word could come down at some point today. PhiladelphiaEagles.com will have complete coverage throughout the day.

I don't know if that's a good thing for the Cowboys or a bad thing. The Eagles have some offensive scheme problems, IMO. I hope they don't get someone that will fix them :)

Marty was Mariucci's OC in SF when the 49ers were a playoff team in the early 90's. TO's success if partially because of Marty.
He's a lousy HC, but he proved he could run the WCO like a top.
If he's promoted in Philly, they have the guns and the know-how to jump right back on top again.
