Guess we will know if Dan Henning is the guy Parcells has been waiting for for Assistant Head Coach and O/C...

I HOPE this is the guy he brings in!

Wouldn't the Panthers have to grant permission to speak to Henning first?

is Hennings contract up?

Assistant coach may be enough of a promotion to snag him.

What was the talk in a thread from the other day about a coach can't even accept a promotion move to another team if they are under contract to their current team?

We're assuming:

a) the Panthers will allow Henning to interview (they can block him, even if it's a promotion--the Bucs are notorious for blocking their assistants from interviewing for anything)

b) that Henning WANTS to

Does anyone know for sure that either assumption is correct?

Some old info on Dan Hennings

Henning named offensive coordinator

NFL.com wire reports

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 7, 2002) -- Former NFL and college head coach Dan Henning was hired by the Carolina Panthers as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Henning was head coach of the San Diego Chargers and Boston College, and was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins' Super Bowl champions in 1983 and 1988.

He was offensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 1998-00 before leaving coaching last season after 25 years.

"Dan Henning is viewed as one of the best offensive coordinators in the NFL," new Panthers head coach John Fox said. "He has knowledge and experience and will be a great asset to our offense."

Henning comes to a Carolina team that ranked last in the league in offense and defense last season and set an NFL record by losing its last 15 games to finish 1-15.

The team's starting quarterback, Chris Weinke, won the Heisman Trophy in 2000, but he struggled as a rookie last season.

Henning has coached Joe Theismann, Bob Griese, Doug Williams and Vinny Testaverde.

We're also assuming that parcells has enough sense to even consider Henning.

An awful big assumption!

According to interviews with people close to the Bucs and Parcells, the two-time Super Bowl coach will name Dan Henning offensive coordinator.

Henning held the same position with the New York Jets from 1998-2000. Parcells is interested in raiding his former Jets staff for offensive line coach Bill Muir and strength coach John Lott.
