What big name players will be eligible for the HOF next year? Guys like Irvin, Zimmerman and Thurman Thomas are knocking on the door, but all it takes is a few huge names to knock them back again. This year Aikman and White were locks in my opinion. Moon surprised me, but I guess his stats in a pass-happy offense were enough. I'm glad they took care of Carson and Wright - finally. Are there any "locks" that are eligible for the first time next year? .

don't want to sound insensitive, or politically incorrect, but the biggest reason Moon was inducted was because he was black, and as such, became the 1st black QB inducted into the Hall

Well by you logic Irvin should be in because he's black.

The most notable player that will be eligible next year is Bruce Matthews. He is obviously a lock for the Hall of Fame. After that, the other guys who would be eligible for the 1st time are Randall Cunningham, LeRoy Butler, Carnell Lake and Eric Allen. Good players in their own right, but I don't see those guys sniffing the Hall of Fame so Irvin's chances along with a guy like Thurman Thomas should be much better next year.

Yeah I was thinking about this earlier, there aren't really any "lock" first year players like Aikman or Reggie White next year, so it's a chance for them to catch up and get in some of the guys who have deserved it. Onlyother big name besides Matthews might be Bruce Smith but I don't remember what year he retired.

so Lake makes it in because he was a steeler?

I don't know how you distinguish these SS of the 90s?
Darren Woodson, LeRoy Butler, John Lynch, Carnell Lake?

That is a list of all of the preliminary guys from this year.

Then add on a few people like Bruce Matthews in 2007, then Darrell Green, Cris Carter, Tony Boselli, Randall Cunningham, Terrell Davis, and LeRoy Butlerin 2008, followed by Bruce Smith in 2009.

It would be a shame if Green goes in before Irvin because Irvin owned Green.

ESPN's love for Carter should get him in. He might have better numbers but he is a lesser receiver than Irvin. I'd pick Irvin over Carter in a heartbeat if I am going to battle for a Championship.

How many Irvin-like physical receivers were there before he came into the league and how many were there after he retired?

Looks like Irvin gets in 2007.
