The Steelers have told safety Chris Hope that re-signing him is a priority.
Of all the Pittsburgh starters headed for unrestricted free agency, Hope may be the best bet to re-sign. His coverage skills make him a good partner for Troy Polamalu. Feb. 20 - 5:02 pm et

Wanting to resign and resigning is two different things. Most players test the FA waters, doing that usually gets them some more money, and lets face it if you've got a 10-12 year shelf life you should get as much as you can while your fresh.

I think he would be good for the right price, I was nowhere near emphatic or spastic that we must get him.

I don't want to get in a huge bidding war for a decent to good player.

I like Chavous better but feel the same way about Chavous that you do pertaining to Hope.

not to mention it's a good stock for FS in this year's draft.

Chavous is without a doubt the better player...just liked Hopes youth.

But I don't want to overpay for either as we have enough money tied up in the secondary.

Think Roy Williams... minus the Roy Williams part.

I read the same article on ESPN, and while I would really like to see Hope on our team, I'm inclined to think that the Steelers are going to do whatever it takes to retain Hope. I hope, (pun intended...) that I'm wrong, and we somehow end up signing Hope, although from a realistic point of view, I'll be quite surprised to see him leave the Steelers.

I agree unfortunately.

BTW just drove across 475 to 35 this morning.

I wouldn't necessarily say Chavous is better than Hope at this stage..one player is budding and another is aging.

Colder than crap. Marion's was good. Great burger at McDiggers in Centerville if you know that place. Good trip however. Got tons of stuff at our baby shower. Oh yea, stuck in traffic on 75 Friday with that overturned semi. That sucked. I do like the improvements so far on the 70/75 interchange. Over 1700 miles makes for a sore rear end. Back again for Christmas.

Yeah I think you picked the coldest stretch this winter to visit. Sorry bout your luck there.. Hopefully(bringing up Hope as a possible Cowboy;given that is what this thread is about) we will all have a great Christmas present about that time by knowing that our Cowboys have already secured a playoff berth.

Unless the salary cap goes way up, I just dont see how you can have over 20 million tied up in your starting secondary anyway, and that is about what you would have once you resign Williams and sign Hope too.

I'm always wary of the non-great player who's stock shoots through the roof in free agency because his team won the Superbowl. Remember when the Raiders paid out the nose to pay Larry Brown shutdown CB money right after he won the Superbowl MVP? Nobody even knew who Chris Hope was 2 months ago, and now he's one of the premium free agents on the market? Talk about buying high.

Hope wants to stay in Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh wants to keep him; sounds like 25% chance at best of him leaving.

Some of us knew who he was. Pittsburgh winning the Super Bowl was the worst thing that could happen for Dallas. Might have been able to get a young, rising player on the cheap.

Probably won't happen now.

Signing Hope or signing a player who has the same type of skills as a Hope is a must.
Keyword to look for...coverage skills.
Roy is what he is.
Roy is never going to be a great cover player(Moss in the first Redskin game exposed that).
So getting a FS who can cover is a must.
For the last 5yrs or so we have had nothing but slow hard hitting safeties around here.
It's pathetic.
It's like we are burying our head in the sand and acting like Davis,Scott or Dixon can play deep coverage.
Give me a break!
We have had this same problem year after year.
Let's stop trying to coach these guys up and get some new blood in here.
Guys who can run and have ball skills to play some coverage.
Chavous is smart but I doubt he has the speed we need back there.
Michael Huff would be perfect.
To make a long story short...I'm tired of us getting slow safeties to play along side of Roy. Grizzled vets are not the answer so let's get some young vets or draft picks with speed to play FS.
