Does that mean they are stuck with that contract for 6 years? Holy crap they are nuts. No wonder they are the redskins.

Thats ridiculous, THAT MUCH for a guy that only had 1 receiving TD last year and only 550+ yds. They basically just signed a KR/PR to a 7 year 31 million dollar deal including that huge signing bonus. That is ridiculous.!!!!!!!!!!!

Brandon Lloyd is their new #2 WR. Randel El is a #3 in WSH now, also will serve as KR/PR!!!!!!!!

3rd receiver- he won't beat Lloyd for 2nd EVER unless Lloyd goes nuts and punches the Crypt Keeper.

Yep, Pitt wasn't too happy with Randle El when he filled in as #2 for Burress in 04 or for the entire year last year, basically Quincy Morgan and Cedric Wilson were coming up with bigger plays and Wilson really became the true #2 option.

As with most of the Skins' free agent signings, don't expect the player to last more than three years there. They will build in some renegotiation and bonuses down the line, then ditch the player once he's owed the big bucks.
It's really a renters' paradise in Washington. Not knocking them, it is just how they've chosen to do business. They don't build through the draft. Considering how awful they drafted in the past decade*, maybe that's a wise move.
*Dallas drafted like *** for about a decade too.

That is a lot for a #3 WR, but that's where their needs were.
Moss, Lloyd, Randle-El and Cooley make a formidable WR corp.
It will be interesting to see who throws the ball to them.

WRs in the draft are looking like a much better idea for us. It amazes me that Dan keeps spending and never gets caught by the cap. When JJ finally bit the bullet and we had the ugly aughts I thought great, we finally have clean cap that will not bite us in the years to come. But Dan just keeps high flying and it seems never has to pay the piper.

Dan avoids "captastrophe" because the cap keeps growing at such a fast rate. What was it, 75 mil just a few years ago?
People who predict cap troubles often neglect to factor in these increases. They think 3 or 4 years out at whatever the cap is at that time. By then it usually goes up.
That's saved Dan a couple of times.

NFL Fines Former 49ers Executive $400,00 for Salary Cap Violations
Lenient penalty results in criticism by owners
New York, December 7, 2000 - Giants co-owner, Wellington Mara, spoke out in anger over the settlement that the NFL reached with former 49ers executives Carmen Policy and Dwight Clark over their alleged violation of the salary cap in 1997. Under the terms of the deal, Policy was fined $400,000 and Clark was fined $200,000. The 49ers will also have to pay a $300,000 fine and give up a 5th round draft choice in 2001 and a 3rd round choice in 2002.
Mara apparently became upset after Policy refused to admit any wrongdoing in the matter. Mara has since accused Policy of lying to the NFL Management Council Executive Committee about the allegations. Mara issued a statement in which he said, "of all those present, not one believed what [Policy] said." Mara added that the group then agreed that Policy "should give a deposition under oath as soon as possible," but Policy "declined to be sworn in and instead began negotiating the settlement,." according to Long Island Newsday.
Others weighed in on the situation in varying degrees of agreement with Mara and also thought the settlement let the 49ers off too easy. New Orleans Saints' Owner Tom Benson, on the settlement: "It's good that we're going to get a lot stricter on this stuff, but I wish we'd had a policy in place that would have made this ruling stiffer ... But the new agreement [giving the commissioner broad powers] should be a deterrent. At least I hope it is." Another NFL team owner was quoted as saying, "I think they (Policy and Clark) got away with murder."
National Football League Players' Association Executive Director Gene Upshaw said, "I don't think (the 49ers) got off light . . . The other owners around the league will make a lot of noise, but they've got to look at what was there. They might have wanted more authority from the commissioner, but it wasn't there,"
In comparison with the NBA's recent actions against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the NFL action is quite light and, in a typical settlement-type agreement, stipulated that neither Policy or Clark admit to any wrongdoing.
In addition to the penalties levied against the 49ers and their former executives, agents Leigh Steinberg, Jeff Moorad and Gary Wichard, who represented quarterback Jim Druckenmiller, linebacker Woodall, quarterback Steve Young and tight end Brent Jones, received "substantial" fines. It was reported that Steinberg, who represented Young and Jones, will pay a fine of $250,000, while Wichard, who represented Druckenmiller, will pay $100,000. The money is "going to league and union designated charities."

You know, just because you say theres a huge difference doesn't mean there is. Where is your objective proof?
And next person who says "Gibbs brings such a team atmosphere" and then alludes to those players willing to restructure needs to get banned. MILLIONS of dollars are at stake, the NFL is a business. Anyone with a tertiary job would know that when it comes down to that amount money you're looking out for yourself first. You put too much stock in humanity if you think otherwise, period. Players restructure because they get more guranteed money upfront. There is very little downside for them to restructure, and contrary to some peoples beliefs these players are not putting money on the back of their contract to help the team. They get the same amount and they get it sooner.
