Titans | Thornton agrees to terms
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 08:37:17 -0800

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Tennessee Titans have reached a contract agreement with free-agent LB David Thornton (Colts). He will sign a five-year deal that averages about $4.5 million per year; the deal also includes $8 million in bonuses.

With respect to Akin A., I'd figure that would be the max he would get in the market. More likely, I'd guess JJ/BP would be offereing around $3-3.5mm/year?

What do you think?

Wow. That's more than I thought Thornton would get.

ouch. that's too much. The 3.5 per year is fine for Akin but the real issue is how much is guaranteed. The teams goal would be to have the final 2 years of the deal with large salaries -- the salaries would be justified if Akin did well but would offset any cap charges if he didn't and we wanted to cut him.

My guess is this -- 5 years 18-20 million - with a 7 million SB. Too much but slightly backloaded.
