Now, Abraham scares me.

All their other signings have been very solid.

Abraham is a great signing for them.

Now, I will say that I think we can run on their ends. Carter and Abraham are both smallish......lots of run-blitzing for the Skins next year.

Redskins and DE Andre Carter have agreed on a six-year, $30 million contract.
It's an almost identical deal to Adam Archuleta's. Both players will help, but the Redskins massively overpaid again. Who would have come close to paying this much? Carter is talented, but has struggled to stay healthy or provide consistent production in San Francisco. He should move back to defensive end in Washington.

If the Redskins are able to sign all these players in FA, why are these guys that come from big markets even hitting FA?

I could understand if the skins were paying according to talent....but they're paying top dollar to guys like Randle El, Adam Archulleta, and now John Abraham?

It's almost reacing unfair status.

I'm not scared.....we all know Snyder has been trying to buy a super bowl since he bought the team....it hasn't worked yet.....and it never will.

The Redskins are hosting DE John Abraham.
They could send Patrick Ramsey to New York as part of a trade, but we're not sure where they are finding all this cap room. It hasn't stopped them yet.

How can they continue to sign all of these players with their current cap situation? I just don't get it. They were supposed to be in what several people called "Cap Hell" and now they turn in one of the busiest free agent signing periods I have ever seen...................Can someone shed some light on this??

, this is outrageous, i dont know how in hell they have that much cap space. They were just like 20 million over damn near last week, now they all of a sudden have enough cap room to sign the top notch FA's on the market, and trade for a VERY expensive player, this is class a bull**** in my opinion!!!!!

Lloyd- Getting a larger contract
Randel El- 7 year $31 million deal, 11.5 million bonus
Carter- 6 year $30 million deal
Archuleta- 6 year deal, $5 million per year, $10 million signing bonus
Fauria-Signed a deal iunno how much though.

Per NBC4 with George Michaels, the Redskins have spent $100 million on Free Agency and are still not finished, they still want to work deals and pick up draft picks as well!!!!!

THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 'Skins would only have been in "cap hell" if the CBA had not been extended. With the new CBA they can just prorate everything. And it looks like they do. Trying to buy a Super Bowl with future money. I hope they overextend themself this time, but they haven't in previous years.

i would love for adam to project where the skins currently are with the cap- i agree with consensus here- how is they had to cut 6 players a week ago to get under the cap and now have the money to shell out like they are. makes no sense- they are either much smarter than the rest of the league or much dumber- haven't figured out which yet.:bang2:

No One in the NFL Office even understands how to calculate the Cap. They have no way of tracking the Redskins. Danny knows that and does whatever he wants.

Abraham needs a trade - sounds fishy

Regardless of overpaying and all that stuff. If they do sign Carter (Carter already signed) and Abraham, they are vastly improved team.

We could not sweep (beat) them last year, sure would not see it happening this year if the "rumors" are true.

The one thing that is irritating me about my skins, is that if we get Carter (is he a DE??)and Abraham is that if they are both playing DE, we have 2 older DEs sitting on the bench making millions and millions.

Now this adds great depth and because they are great run stoppers and did a nice job they deserve money, but i wonder how we will deal with this.

This is getting me really excited...and its really hard to imagine MY skins as being a top dog in the NFC.

Forget the rookie pool for the Reskins. Some were saying w/ all the FA agents signing w/ the skins that it would be hard for them to get draft picks signed. Well....

With these signings today....The Redskins will not be participating in this years NFL draft. So who even needs a rookie pool? BRILLIANT !!

Great news--I am glad because the deadskins will need all the help they can receive from a pass rush due to the fact we have significantly upgraded our offensive line with the signing of TWO future pro bowlers in free agency already--a versatile guard from Detroit and a c/g who already knows our offensive line formations. This line is vastly improved.......

Drew Bledsoe will have all day to pat the ball this year due to the offensive line upgrades--and it is only 3 days into the FA period. I bet the NFL competition committee will implement a new QB rule that the player cannot pat the ball over six times per pass attempt!

They haven't overextended in previous years because they haven't been doing this for that long. Six years is less than most players' career spans. It'll happen.

http://home.gci.net/~t.johnson/images/brilliant.jpg[No one knows how the heck the deadskins were able to pull this off, but they have done it apparently. So if they can do all of this, then the sky is the limit for them. It's like they are the yankees, but with a phantom salary cap.

They are the only ones that can spend a 100 mil, and never have salary cap issues. Something illegal is happening and the league needs to investigate.

Yeah, they will not sign Abraham although it would have been a better move if they had. Even though they don't have a first round pick, Abraham would be better than Carter. Carter is a liability against the run. YOu can run on him all day long. And that's what we will do.

Riggo - you have all the answers. Pray tell us. How many SB's have been purchased? Your boy Danny sure is dieing to try to be the first or second (Niners). The only reason they are active in FA is because of the new CBA and you know it. lifting the 30% rule allowed the Skins to push money into the future as usual. Without the new CBA they could not have done this. You know this is true, at least I hope you are not so damn stupid to think otherwise

Redskins sign Carter, meet with DE Abraham

By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

Continuing their typically aggressive approach in the opening days of free agency, the Washington Redskins on Monday evening reached a contract agreement with unrestricted defensive end, a five-year veteran they hope will provide the outside pass rush the have been lacking.

Carter flew to Washington on Monday night and will sign a six-year contract that is believed to be worth about $30 million.

The former University of California star, who had played all of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, visited with Redskins officials over the weekend, but departed to consider his options. Denver which also needs an outside pass rusher, also was pursuing him.

Washington officials also met over the weekend with New York Jets (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nyj) defensive end John Abraham (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5042), who was designated a franchise player, but is on the trading block. The Jets are expected to demand a trade package involving a first-round draft pick, and Washington does not own a selection in the opening stanza of the lottery. Clearly, the Redskins decided it was easier to sign Carter rather than chase Abraham, who is set to meet with three other teams this week.

The Redskins, who statistically ranked No. 9 in total defense in 2005, had already added former St. Louis strong safety Adam Archuleta (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5467) to their secondary.

Securing an explosive upfield rusher like Carter should further enhance an already strong defense, one that over the last two years has been forced to manufacture sack opportunities through the clever maneuvering of creative coordinator Gregg Williams. In Carter, who ranked No. 20 among ESPN.com's top unrestricted free agents, the Redskins gain a rusher who at least has the potential to net double-digit sacks.

The Redskins had 35 sacks in 2005 but only one lineman, end Phillip Daniels (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=3634), had more than four. And the veteran Daniels collected five of his eight sacks in the final two games of the campaign.

Carter, 26, was the seventh overall choice in the 2001 draft and posted a career-high 12 ½ sacks in 2002. Since then, however, he has never had more than 6½ sacks in a season. And Carter, the son of former NFL player and assistant coach Rubin Carter, has only twice played in all 16 games in a season. Carter has been a starter at end in a 4-3 front, which the Redskins use, and at linebacker in a 3-4 alignment.

The consensus around the league is that Carter, who is not particularly stout versus the run, is most effective when he plays at right end in a 4-3. In 69 games, Carter has 188 tackles, 32 sacks, seven forced fumbles, two recoveries and 12 passes defensed.

The 'Skins" and lil Danny bet on the come and are making out like bandits! I must say they were very lucky and very smart......most of their big contracts were due in 06 and 07 but with a new CBA which raised the 06 cap to $102M and probably the 07 cap will be someplace within $107M to $109M. You get the feeling the JG will coach only a couple more years so they are going for broke this year or next! With the CBA lasting another 6 years they will be saved again if a new deal is settled in time. By the way is Taylor on the way out already?......why else would they want Archeletta (sp)?
