In the wake of the Washington Redskins' decision to throw $10 million in guaranteed money to a safety with a history of a herniated disc, we're hearing that the team beefed up the position due to concerns that it might not ultimately have the services of Sean Taylor come the 2006 season.



Taylor is set to go to trial next month on felony charges that, if convicted, would put him behind bars for three years at a minimum. :laugh2:



If Taylor beats the rap, the Redskins secondary could be one of the best in the league, with Archuleta and Taylor at safeties, and Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers at the corners.

I think it has more to do with the fact that Sean Taylor is a SS with the abilities of a CB. So this would make him more of a FS. And Archuleta would be the blitzing SS.

I'm actually a LITTLE jazzed that Archuleta is coming to Washington. His uncle lives here and is a family friend, which means there's a slight chance I could score some tickets to the Boys/Skins game. The chances are extremely slim, but .. hey .. you never know!

If it wasnt such a "high profile" case and a DA wanting to make a "name" for himself.... any lawyer worth his weight would have pled down to a gross Misdemeanor on the first court date and the DA would have added that to his plea down %.

Well, that's just stupid (not you, TT, the article)... the Skins are worried that they may not have the services of their FREE safety, so they go out and sign another STRONG safety...

Bullhockey... the Skins signed Archuleta to take Ryan Clark's place...

LOL... add in Pierson Prioleau for depth, but after that you've got NOTHING... I mean, the backups are Ade Jimoh, James Bethea, Curry Burns, Christian Morton, Dimitri Patterson and Aric Williams... those 5 wouldn't make a good secondary in NFL Europe, LOL...

And since virtually every team in the league has defensive sets that call for 6 and 7 DBs, it's clearly RIDICULOUS to call the Skins' secondary "one of the best in the league"... this will become even more true if the injury bug bites at DB...

What they have is just about the same situation they have on the offensive line, they've got good solid starters (not Pro Bowlers for the most part, but solid), and bupkus for depth...

No, I wouldn't, I've always thought Sean was pretty good in coverage... but I'd be drooling if the Skins really did try to use Archuleta in the same way they use Taylor, because he's WEAK in coverage...

Taylor is a good football player but he is more impulsive and easily beaten then any FS in football.

Taylor and RW were both horrible last year IMHO. They simply made too many mistakes to be Pro Bowlers.

If he's convicted of the charges, he CAN'T get probation... Florida law requires jail time for ANY conviction of a felony committed while using a gun, and that's exactly what he's charged with...

LOL. Newman had 3 INTs and 14 passes defensed. He was rated the best cover corner in the league by Dr. Z, SI's football analyst. He allowed no TDs all year, and allowed an average of 2 catches, for 20-some yards per game.

Rogers had 2 INTs, and 2 passes defensed. 2 plays on the ball, all year. Awesome.
