Hello Carpenter.
We need some experience in our LBs.

He was old as molasses anyways plus we got some tricks up our sleeve. Mister Jerry Jones is just waiting for the right moment to pull them out of his hat like a magicman and his rabbit.

Dad-burn, if jerry really in mexico on vacation, and leaving us fans hanging? This makes me really wonder, if Jerry really plans to sign anyone big like TO, or just barely sign players this year, like they did in 2004. I am sure all of you are aware what happened that year, we waited for free agents, & after doing so, did a poor job of getting quality players, and as you know we stunk that year, 5-11 record in 2004.
Alexander

He never made it here.
That is what happens when your owner and coach take the week of free agency off.
You lose out. In most of these cases, first Longwell and now this apparently, we simply did not get them to visit us.
That is what happens when you are content to be third on the visit list.
You will lose out on the good players.

Looking at the 2 FA we have signed these are still young guys I don't think Dallas is looking to add more age to this team. I'm not going to knock McGinest I think he is a very good player but he is getting up in age and it just appears right now that Jerry and the Cowboys are not looking to put a team together for just 1 or 2 season.

It is true he would have been a great pick-up for the reasons you mentioned. But it had nothing to do with what Jerry did or didn't do. This guy wanted to go to his home state. Money isn't everything to everybody. Where you live, raise your family, etc. is also part of most people's decision as to where to go. We need to stop blaming Jones for everything.

He was a former Parcells player, so he supposedly wasn't any good anyway and the only reason he would be brought here is because Parcells is making this a retirement home for his former Patriots and Jets.
Or so I've been told.

Players and agents decide who they are going to visit first, not coaches.
McGinnest player for Romeo two years ago. Its been a while since he played for Bill. I'm sure his ties are stronger there, so he went there first.

Dont worry. It's only a week into free agency. It doesn't matter that basically all the decent FAs are off the market because there's still plenty of time. :banghead: It doesn't matter that the rest of the divison is getting better every day. Trust me. There's plenty of time. No need to rush my man. Jerry is tanning somewhere in Mexico and Bill is shagging flyballs with the St Louis Cardinals. :banghead:

For the love of God. You people whinge and moan about how our team is too old and Parcells signs old people. Now our team gets younger and you guys whinge and moan about not having enough "leadership players."
Our Quarterback is the leader of our offense. Roy, Aaron Glenn, Bradie and Greg Ellis will be the leaders of our Defense.
It is really true that no matter what this team does, its fans will b*tch and moan.

Theres a good chance the contract is back loaded, could very well be about 3/year on average, or possibly even less. Say 4 million up front with 1.5 and 2 in the first two years.
I think players have the largest choice of where they are going and in what order they are going to visit teams. I won't say we didn't have a chance, but I suspect he knew where he wanted to go from the start. Maybe if we made a harder push at him, maybe he would have changed his plans or maybe not.
I do think we've made some moves that make sense so far. They aren't the sexy moves we all want, but none of them have been stupid ones, or even questionable ones. Are we done? Probably not.

Nothing except Burnett may not be ready to start the season (I think he tore his ACL or something like that in December), but I agree 100% that we don't need to draft a LB in the first. I only wanted McGinnest because he would bridge the gap between now and when Burnett was ready not to mention what he could teach Burnett and Ware.

We need some experience in our LBs.
I agree 100%. This is the downside of using a high draft choice without a capable veteran who has played at a high levelin place. James and Ayodele have played well but I would not say they are elite players. Ware is a potential elite player but is still learning how to be a pro. A new guy like Lawson would be where Ware was last year and our LB corps would be looking to James for leadership. That's a lot to ask of him, IMO.

IMO that player has a LOT to prove. Not only did he get hurt late in the season (which means his first half of 2007 is in jeopardy) but this hugely sets back his learning curve. He didn't get much time in the 3-4 last year and likely won't get any time in it this offseason. Given how injury prone this kid has been, I'm thinking year 2 of Burnett is likely shot. If he manages to develop at the pace of a Brady James, he'll thus become a player in his 4th year instead of his 3rd year. That leaves his 5th year a contract year and us getting only 1 or 2 good years from a 2nd round draft pick. I guess with Dallas' recent track record (Carter, Dixon, Gurode, Bryant, Johnson, Rogers, et al) we should not be surprised.
