Arrington's agent will challenge suspension

WASHINGTON (AP) - Carl Poston's lawyer says the agent will challenge a two-year suspension levied by the NFL players' union over the handling of LaVar Arrington's 2003 contract extension with the Washington Redskins.

Poston was disciplined by an NFL Players' Association disciplinary committee during the union's meetings this week in Hawaii. The case involved a $6.5 million bonus that Arrington claimed was left out of the final contract of his contract by the Redskins (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67062).

"The suspension is wrong, irresponsible, and in violation of the NFLPA rules," Poston's lawyer, Paul Aloe, said in a statement issued Thursday. "We intend to vigorously contest this using all appropriate legal remedies. These charges are utterly without merit. It is LaVar Arrington (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/70869)'s call whether or not Carl adequately represents him. LaVar has urged that the charges be dismissed and that Carl did nothing wrong."

Aloe said the Poston will take the case to arbitration under NFLPA rules. Poston will continue to represent his clients while contesting the suspension.

"We are confident than when the process is completed, Carl will be completely vindicated," Aloe said.

Arrington reached an agreement with the Redskins (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67062) earlier this month that allowed him to become a free agent. He said Thursday that he will keep Poston as his agent.
"It's a total injustice," Arrington said. "Things like that happen in life."

I have no love of anything Poston, but its tough to argue he should be suspended for incompetence.

If our government worked that way there would be anarchy.....

I'm confident that when the process is completed, the NFLPA will have given ole Carl a Big One-Finger Salute!

I'll let y'all guess which finger.

I have no love of anything Poston, but its tough to argue he should be suspended for incompetence. Not when the NFLPA got a hold of him. Him and his brother have been Public Enemy #1 on their radar for a loooooong time and I have supreme confidence that the NFLPA will do everything in their power to make this stick.

I don't have a problem with that.

Just seems to me either I'm missing some facts (quite possible) or they are on pretty shaky legal ground on this one.

Who was the agent who forgot to submit TO's free agency papers 2 years ago? Was any action taken against him?

If I remember right, all agents have to register with the NFLPA, so it should be in their right to suspend them. I would assume that TOs agent did get a reprimand/fine since the NFLPA was upset at that time and even told TO and his agent not to sign the eagles contract because it wasn't fair wages for his ability.
