View Full Version : Official Terrell Owens Poll!!

Given the controversy caused by signing Terrell Owens, I felt it would be "interesting" to have everyone vote on their opinion of him now and then compare it again later in the season.

Only way I am not on board is if T.O. pushes me off.

Greatly help, no question. He keeps the safety back, no more 8 in the box for JJ!

Hey, I'm the lone dissenter so far! I do not believe it will be long before Owens shows his true colors once again as he has everywhere else he has been.
He might be a model teammate in 2006 but before the 2007 season is very far along the turd will start to stink.

I think he will help the team, unless his groin injury somehow surfaces this year like it did in Philly.
Funny how I don't hear much talk about his groin that always seemed to be hurting him.

I didn't want TO and still will have a lot of strange feelings about seeing him with a star ... :puke:
But I guess JJ and BP decided they could do something with him.
I'm a cowboy fan and since he is with the team I will just hope for the best...:o:

He gets a 3rd chance from me. Great signing! Even better then I anticipated. Will be a great addition to our team once the playing starts.
I voted yes.

He'll both help and hurt before all is said and done...hopefully if he starts causing trouble they just suspend him for the max (4 games?) and then cut him.

Reserving my judgement until Thanksgiving.
That kind of ruins the point of the poll.....
I have very mixed emotions about this. But I'll believe the best and vote pro-TO.
His signing is most definitely a big risk. But its a calculated one that I believe the org is set up to weather any resulting storm from - either cap wise or team chemistry wise.
Jerry has managed the cap to where we can afford to take the risk and recover quickly even if it doesn't pan out.
I think all key people (BP, Jerry, team leaders, TO himself) will be out to prove the naysayers wrong and keep it all on a very short leash.
Will our OL be stable enough to leverage TO? Will our QB'ing be strong enough to do the same for 3 years? Will TO at 32+ be physically capable of delivering game-breaking contribution for 3 years?
Those questions are probably greater in my mind than the cap hit & chemistry concerns.
This team is such an interesting mix of developing youth and aging stars.
I think for the next 12 months or next season, yes, probably a good acquisition with what he brings to the table (and his skills are considerable). In 2007, watch out, however. Could be Philadelphia redux.

I put i don't care not becouse T.O is not a great player nor it has to do what he did befor .Cowboys problem is not a Receiver problem it is an OL problem untill we fix that it won't matter much becouse Bledsoe might not have the time to throw the ball

Paramitors are too narrow. I think in the first year or so, he will help a great deal. I think that in year 2 or possibly 3, he will be a problem. I personally do not like this signing but it's done. He is now a Cowboy so I will have to get over it and move on. I will support him as long as he shows he deserves the support.
However, I don't think it will be long before we are learning the hard lesson SF and Philly learned where this player is concerned. JMO of course.

I put yes simply because it's a great calculated risk. If he screws up and acts the fool you can get rid of him the following year.
I truly hope this actually works out longer than 1-2 years and he stays the course. We deserve to hit a homerun sooner or later......

Wow this poll is way more lopsided in favor of the TO signing than I ever thought possible.
For the record I love the signing.

The difference in how the poll is to one last year saying "do you want TO" is a total 180 degree turn.

I voted yes! I believe this will be a great deal for us and for TO. He knows this is his last chance in the NFL and Parcells is no stranger to getting in his players faces. I dont believe TO is gonna be a distraction because i believe our organization is the best in the buisness and can come through this unscathed even if he does open his mouth. Hell all ive seen from the players who he is supposed to be a cancer to is that they love the move. What did Ed Werder say Bledsoe told him about it? I just became a better QB and didnt have to throw a pass.

Trick poll. I voted YES even though I hate the fact that he came to us. I think year 1 he will be a very big addition to our team, it's year 2 that scares the ba out of me. That and the fact that we won't draft any youth at the receiver position because of his addition. If he helps us win the Super Bowl, but rips the team apart and we flounder the following year like Philly did, is he still considered a positive add?

T.O. will be a model player.....THIS SEASON.
The question becomes the following....after this season, IF we make the playoffs, T.O. will receive a paycut next year. How will he handle the paycut next year?
He was a good guy for the Eagles in that first year as well.
The first year IS NOT the problem....it's what hapens after that that is going to be the problem.

I voted "I don't care", because I don't.
I just want to see good football and I don't care who plays it or which team wins or loses. If I had a preference, it would be to see a cleanly officiated game.
Up until 25 years ago, I cared deeply, too deeply, and I was emotionally devasted by Referee Norm Schacter taking the ball away from Dallas and giving it to Baltimore so that Jim O'Brien could kick the field goal that won the game. It took me weeks to recover from the morbid depression that set off in me and I vowed never to allow anyone else to crush my emotions that way again. I will never cheer for or against any particular player or team nor care who wins any particular encounter. I enjoy reading the posts of those who care, whether they are celebrating or angry or depressed. As long as I get to watch good football, I am happy, no matter who plays it.
Too often, it is not the voters who determine the outcome of an election, but those who count the votes; conversely, it is also too often not the players who determine the outcome of a game, but the officials who determine the winner.
I am always happy either way. :)
Sometimes the only way to win, or at least, not to lose, is not to play.

Im sure if TO plays model teammate this year that Jerry would have no problem redoing the contract. Jerry knows what he has on his hands and if he keeps him happy TO will play by the rules.

I just don't care. I will assume that's a neutral choice for those who are skeptical but see the potential if it works. Count me in that group because I cast judgements once the season begins and see how it will unfold.

Poll needs time estimates/constraints. For this year T.O. will be the "Marvin Harrison" type but with better skills. 2-3 years later, he'll be the anti- . I just hope we win this year.
I understand the theme of the poll so for the record, I voted no.

Mike Taylor of ESPN 103.3 stated he felt most Cowboy fans were on board with this move. He named 80%. I sent him the link to this poll and he responded with a simple thanks for the evidence of his accuracy.

I wasn't really sure where to vote. Obviously he really helps the team talent-wise, but the signing has a serious potential to backfire.
I think he'll be on his best behavior for atleast the first year, so I voted yes, he'll help.

Dude, you need a blood transfusion, a shot of adrenaline, or gulp a couple of power drinks or something.
Do you not care if the Cowboys win or lose when you watch ?
You will never experience the highs if you aren't willing to risk the lows.
You will never make the great catch of the ball in the gap if you always let it fall, ... so you don't risk dropping it.
You'll never hit the home-run if you fear striking out.
I feel bad for you, and I don't mean that in a bad way.
Sports are a blast, .. take a chance, risk it, ... who knows, you might win the big one !

Sounds like jealousy to me. I'm positive that the same guy would be pissing his paints and singing with glee if Snyder pulled another $30 million contract out and sign Owens to the Redskins.

I understand where you're coming from and I admire your enthusiasm as I felt the same way as a young athlete. Actually I do prefer the Cowboys win, but it is not as important to me as seeing good football and clean officiating. As soon as they announced the referees for that game I knew the Boys were going to lose because of a controversial call and that Norm Schacter would be the ref involved, just like it had been every time he reffed a game the Boys were in up until that time.
I grew up in OK and Neb where there was no local pro team to cheer for but I loved to watch the pros play because they were the best. and when I moved to Dallas as an adult, the Cowboys were formed I became a rabid Boys fan. After that game I came to the conclusion that as long as there was public interest and betting, powerful unscruplous men would try to influence the outcome of the games for personal gain and that the only way to insulate myself from the deep hurt was to temper my enthusiasm for individual players and teams and go back to loving the sport for its own sake. It has worked for me but it's not for everyone.
Most fans want a specific target to focus their affections on but for me, it is the game itself. I do cheer for great plays, regardless of who makes them and groan for bonehead plays and boo the refs when they make flagrantly bad calls. It's just part of my trying to accept things I can't change.
If TO makes great plays for the Boys I will feel mildly good about it just as I will feel mildly irritated when he goes crazy and trashes his team just like he has in the past, but it will not destroy me. I'm the one who is in charge of my feelings and I will not allow others to affect how I feel - that's my job.
