When Stephen Jackson, Kevin Jones and Julius Jones all turn out to be 1100 to 1300 yard backs.... and when next year rolls around and our 2 1st rounders make it very possible to acquire an elite prospect like WR Mike Williams....
...are you guys that are losing your minds about this trade gonna fess up that you were the ones pitching a hissy fit on draft day 2004 about "The Trade"?
SJ and KJ will be good backs - but Geesh - do you guys actually reallize what a team can do with 2 1st round draft picks in the same draft?
If so - how in the world could you think we made a mistake accepting that deal instead of drafting a "good" back.
If we were talking about the REAL Rick Williams here instead of "Ricky Williams2"
as someone described him( ) - I might would understand.
Now mind you - this is not coming from a guy who thinks every move the FO makes is the right one.
I liked the trade... I like taking Rogers and Peterman....
but the TE and the Georgia corner I didn't like...would have much rather had that Shiver kid.
As far as trading down from the 6th for extra 7th rounders - I liked - because at that point everybody's a crap shoot... so it's good to have more crap to shoot at!
Especially when it comes to special teamers - folks that have the best chance at making the squad.

If Jones is as good as Jackson then everybody will, well mostly everybody, will admit they were wrong but right now Im not happy with the trade and would much rather have Jackson, K.Jones or Perry. If Jones is just as good as those 3 then we won in the trade, if not and Jackson turns into a great back we lost. We took a risk yesterday and it could either make BP look like a genius or have everybody question his draft skills. I am not happy with rounds 4-7 at all. I think we could bring in a few undrafted guys (BJ Johnson, McNeil, Everage, etc) that have a better chance of making this team than the ones we selected on day 2 of the draft.

For the record I was not in favor of this trade at all. However, of course next year when we have two #1 picks I am not going to be moaning about it.
We wont know for a while wether this was a good trade or not.
Like I mentioned in an earlier post Dallas has only drafted 2 players on offense in the first round since E. Smith was drafted (Harper and LaFleur).
That is 14 years since we drafted a good player in the first round on offense.
I am ready for Dallas to roll the dice on an offense player in the first round.

When next year's draft rolls around, no one will be sorry we have two 1st rounders, I can guarantee you that. A lot of people will pretend they liked the trade all along.

I say if Jones is anywhere near as good as Jackson - and in next years draft we come away with either 1 elite prospect and/or 2 really good players....
we came out much better than having one really good player.
I'll take a good player + an elite player over 1 really good player any day of the week.

We won't know until next year how good Julius Jones truly is...
but if he is in fact a bust....which I don't think he is...
isn't the RB class next year better than this year?
Even if it's the same....
do you reallize we'd either have the ammo to get a RB thats even better than ya'll think Jackson is gonna be?
But if JJ turns out to be a good starting RB - which is all Parcells needs for his system to work...
I think we're sitting pretty regardless of what Steven Jackson is doing.
I mean, Kevin Jones was taken at 31? On about 50% of the NFL boards...HE was the top back in this draft. That right there tells you just how close to Ricky Willimas Steven Jackson is.
Look at the history of taking RBs in the first. I like this trade for a # of reasons.
I'm sure there will be even more this time next year.

This trade is a slam dunk unless Julius gets hurt. We made out big time and next year will be awesome!

I'm not for or against the trade, but if we were looking to trade out of the first, don't you think it would make more sense to trade for dillon before the draft? That way we would've had a proven runningback and not a player that can't seem to stay on the field and can't read the playbook. The deal would have been a lot more sweeter imo.
What is he 30 or 29. We are rebuilding the right way. We need young talent. We are not build like Dan Snyder. We are building like Billy B. in NE. You know how many people were crying in New York when Bill let Keyshawn go? Look how that turned out.

He is over 30 and a 2nd on him is a waste
He has been labeled a cancer which we do not need on this team it is a young team
I rather risk the draft on a guy like JJ or a bell any day
Just because a guy fails out of school does not make him stupid. In fact he showed great character in correcting the issue and went back to school got his grades up then transfered back to ND and graduated. Instead of quitting and just going to the NFL like he could have he took the hard road went back busted his arse and graduated from college.
Funny how we call people stupid for struggling to juggle things; he failed at something it happens but he showed heart and courage by not quitting and kept at it.
Quitting is Byron Handspar who quit going to class and had a 0.0 GPA his last semester at Texas Tech once football season was over.
So quit making up stuff about reading playbooks etc

He has 2 years at best left in the tank.
Right now, we're not good enough to be in the business of givving away picks for guys at the end of their careers. Especially with the low career ceiling at RB...
