#35 (Traded Jets picks #53, #189 and Second round pick in 2007 for Jets #35)

Roger McIntosh LB Miami

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/football/2006/draft/players/images/roger_mcIntosh.jpg

Position: OLB
Class: 5Sr
School: Miami (FL)
Conference: Big East
Ht., Wt.: 6-2, 237
40 Time: 4.66

Grading System

BIO: Full-time starter the past two seasons after spending half his freshman campaign with the first team. Led Miami in tackles as a senior posting 80/10/5.5 after career-best numbers of 111/13/4 as a junior.

POSITIVES: Physically gifted linebacker with the skills to be a three-down defender. Forceful up the field, collapses from the outside defending the run and gets depth on drops. Displays skill in pursuit and plays with a good degree of explosion. Holds his ground against blocks, chases to get involved in the action and works hard.

NEGATIVES: Does not consistently play under control, over-pursues the action and gets caught out of position. Suffered with both back and shoulder injuries the past two years.

ANALYSIS: A motivated linebacker who leads by example, McIntosh is a solid athlete with the skills to play at the next level. Needs to fine-tune his game and, most importantly, stay healthy to have any chance of breaking into a starting lineup.

#153

DT Anthony Montgomery Minnesota

Position: DT
Class: Sr
School: Minnesota
Conference: Big Ten
Ht., Wt.: 6-5, 311
40 Time: 5.24
Selected by: Washington Redskins
Round 5, pick 20 (153 overall)
Grading System

BIO: Full-time starter the past two years after seeing significant action with the first team as a sophomore. Senior totals included 54/6/3 after 48/9/3 the prior year.

POSITIVES: Explosive thumper in the middle, tough to knock off his feet. Explodes off the snap and displays good range on the field. Takes up a lot of room in the middle of the line, keeps his feet moving on contact and is consistently doubled by opponents. Athletic and displays the ability to drop into coverage. Works to get off blocks and stays with the action.

NEGATIVES: Must improve his hand technique and become quicker shedding blocks at the point. Not light on his feet. Seemingly tires easily.

ANALYSIS: A solid run defender with the physical skills to develop into a player at the next level, Montgomery must improve the details of his game but offers a degree of upside potential.

#173

S Reed Doughty Northern Colorado

Position: S
Class: Sr
School: N Colorado
Conference: Great West
Ht., Wt.: 6.0.5, 210
40 Time: 4.69

Grading System

BIO: Four-year starter named All-America and All-Conference player the past two seasons. Senior totals included 159/4/8 after a junior campaign of 116/6/11.

POSITIVES: Intelligent and intense player who quickly reads the action and always works to get involved in the play. Displays a good head for the ball, flashes on the scene and goes for the knockout blow. Solid cover skills between the hash marks. Productive special teams player.

NEGATIVES: Lacks a fluid backpedal as well as the ability to immediately change direction. Not efficient, takes a lot of missteps or incorrect angles to the action.

ANALYSIS: A defender always flying around the ball, Doughty would be best served at a traditional strong safety position. Effective special-teamer in the NFL.

#196 (from Panthers)

Kedric Golston DT Georgia

Position: DT
Class: Sr
School: Georgia
Conference: Southeastern
Ht., Wt.: 6-4, 300
40 Time: 4.97

Grading System

BIO: Full-time since his junior season after seeing sporadic action with the first team in prior years. Totals last year included 21/1.5/2.5 after 23/1.5/2.5 as a junior.

POSITIVES: Explosive one-gap tackle who plays larger than his size. Resilient, is rarely off his feet and was constantly doubled by opponents. Powerful, gets push up the field and drives opponents off the ball. Quick off the ball and displays a good head for the action.

NEGATIVES: Best in a straight line and rarely makes plays laterally. Marginally productive in college.

ANALYSIS: A limited athlete with average size/speed numbers, Golston best fits as a backup in a conventional defense.

#230

OG Kili Lefotu Arizona

Position: OG
School: Arizona
Conference: Pacific-10
Ht., Wt.: 6-5, 315
40 Time: 5.5
Selected by: Washington Redskins
Round 7, pick 22 (230 overall)

#250 (Compensatory pick)

ILB Kevin Simon Tennesee

Position: ILB
Class: Sr
School: Tennessee
Conference: Southeastern
Ht., Wt.: 5-10, 235
40 Time: 4.95
Selected by: Washington Redskins
Round 7, pick 42 (250 overall)
Grading System

BIO: All-Conference selection last season after 88/4.5/12. Started two games in .04 before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Led the team in tackles as a junior, posting 115/6/4.5. Moved into the starting lineup as a redshirt freshman, playing a quarter of the season before suffering his first knee injury.

POSITIVES: Undersized yet explosive linebacker, very productive when healthy. Plays significantly faster than his 40 time, displays terrific range to the sideline and works hard to get involved in the action. Takes good angles to the play, quick to the flanks an effective in zone coverage.

NEGATIVES: More of a chase-and-drag-down tackler than a stout run defender. Struggled in coverage last year and seemed off his game.

ANALYSIS: An explosive defender who looked like an up-and-comer during the .03 season, injuries have slowed Simon's development the past two years. Enters the draft with medical red flags as a late-round prospect who may never start at the next level.

They didn't need to move up that high for him! Almost as bad as the Bills selection, but not quite.

Do you recall how many millions of skins fans said Darrell WHO?!??......exactly.....how 'bout we wait a few seasons......

While you have a good point, I think what most of us are saying is that he probably would have been there later. But then again, who knows.

Well only one OLB came off after him, but it would have been a gamble.

wow no hypocrite here!

of course you being the pro scout, you know that he wouldn't be there at 53

to me it was a reach but i dont' care cuz its not my team.

the redskins will not win until they build through the draft, being the team with the least picks over the last 5 years isn't building through the draft!

it did get them further than any team in the east last year.....

you have to admit, the draft is a crapshoot. signing players that have played in the league- if you can- is not dumb.

McIntosh is a good pick, he'd be a great pick if Dale Lindsay can help him harness all of that athletic ability and make him play more under control. I just hope he has the type of work ethic that other LBs who've prospered in this defense has (Pierce, Marshall).

Over at Extremskins, they kinda think the Skins gave up to much.

The values are not to be known till next year.
If the player plays big time - it's a wash.
If not and the skins go down the well that pick is looking at the top of the round.

Nice way to spin the value chart. Projecting next year's second rounder to pick #85 a late third in order to make it worthwhile.

Nice way to spin the value chart. Projecting next year's second rounder to pick #85 a late third in order to make it worthwhile.

i'm far from an expert, but i think the values are accurate. this may explain it-

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PF.../TradeValue.htm (http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDraft/Draft+Insider/2004/TradeValue.htm)

"In instances where next year’s draft picks are traded, teams generally divide the league into quadrants, ranking how they expect a team to finish next year. If the Chargers were to deal with the Eagles, who are expected by many to finish in the top eight next year after an active offseason, San Diego could expect a 2005 first-round pick belonging to Philadelphia to be worth 680-800 points. If the Chargers were considering a trade with the 49ers, who are expected to finish in the bottom eight after depleting their roster of much of its veteran talent to better position the team financially for the future, they could expect to receive value ranging from 1,400 to 3,000 points. However, because there is so much parity in the league and it's difficult to predict where a club will finish, some teams generally expect to receive about 1,000 points in exchange for a future first-round pick from a bad team and 750 from a contender. Also, in any trade involving draft choices in both the current year and a future year, most teams will value, say, a fourth-round pick in the current draft as being worth a third-rounder in next year's draft— the team receiving the future pick moving up a round in return for having to wait an extra year to exercise its pick"
