I work in a casino in Atlantic city. I can get off saturday and work thusday. Our pay is based on tips and Saturday could be worth from a $100-$150 more. Should I take off and watch the draft

I'm taking the day off on Saturday(like always) and I have 2 kids, but I work plenty of overtime so it's no biggie. I love to hunt but I don't take time off from work to do it. The draft is only 2 days a year. Go for it!
My wife always gets mad at me and says "you never take days off for us to do something" and I say well I would if you were in this years draft.

Should I take off and watch the draftI took it off myself. Then again I don't have a family to feed and my girlfriend loves watching the draft every bit as much as I do.
So win-win situation for me.

I would go to work...and just record it. THe draft can be a very ....very long process especially when you have to continually mute the tv when Kiper talks. You will be kicking yourself that you didn't earn that extra cash and just check the draft on tape where you can fast forward to all the exciting moves that might happen in the draft.

I guess it would depend on how badly you need the money. If taking the day off is gonna force you to eat oodles of noodles for a week, then I would go to work. Otherwise, I would stay home and watch the draft.

I have a funny feeling every time it's the Boys time to draft. We will be trading down. Which is very frustrating. I am 30 yrs old and I have watched every draft since we picked Aikman, with the exception of 1. That was the year we passed on Moss so I was glad I missed that one. IMO I always get this feeling if I had been there to watch we would have selected Randy. Sorry guys. It will not happen again. I will take the day off.

I spent last year's draft in Epcott Center. I had my cousin call me after every pick. Mike Williams was still on the board at #10. I thought for sure he was gonna be a Cowboys.
Who knew Detroit would take ANOTHER WR with their first round pick.
I then figured Shawn Merriman would definitely be our man. I was in the American display at Epcott ... the talking wax figures with Ben Franklin and Abe Lincoln ... when my cousin called me with the Cowboys pick. I think I said, "Oh ****!!!" too loudly in the auditorium. ha ha
But it was funny.
This year, I told the wife she can do what ever she wants on Saturday ... take the baby or leave the baby with me, but don't bother me. Or she can stay and watch the draft with me ...
Anyway, she set up a BBQ with some friends and family for next Saturday. That's good ... as long as she does all the cooking and no one bothers me. ha ha

I was busy last year and TB text'd me w/every pick until I was able to get online later that day.
If you gotta work, then work. Make that money, tape it, and watch it later.

I have a similar dilema. It is my son's last year in Cub Scouts, and I am his den leader. Guess what weekend our annual camping trip is scheduled for?
So, I will be deep in the woods. My dilema is whether to Tivo it or to try keeping up with the picks through a PDA connected to the internet via my cell phone.
The cell phone gets spotty service out there, but there are areas ...
Not sure if it is better to know in real time how the draft unfolds, or wait until Sunday, and watch a sped-up Tivo'd version.
Suggestions?

Don't even think about missing the draft - EVER! (unless you are homeless and broke, of course ;-))

NOOOOOO.
I know I requested off that day two months ago. Can't wait to get a job where I do not work every Saturday, especially once College Football starts.

Through the magic of TIVO, I'll be watching as fast as I can after the wife and kids are asleep.
Besides, watching live only wastes an entire day of your life. Trust me, it doesn't take 8 hours to watch the first round.

It doesn't, but I like it still, wasting that much time and the anticipation that goes with it. :D

The draft is worth watching because it is like a breath of football fresh air during the off-season. I'm not into the winter sports heading into their playoffs (they seem unending to me) and I have a hard time following baseball because of the inequality of payrolls makes it seem fairly pointless. All of the baseball analysis these days focuses on Bonds and steroids.
However, on draft day (particularly day 1) all of the analysis and anticipation leading up to everyone's picks makes me realize that a new season will roll around before long. It always makes for a good day of pro football.
The other good thing about this off season is I'm getting to watch Drew Henson in action every week. The fact that he isn't stinking up the joint makes life pretty good right now for this fan.
Only if one or more applies:
a) You're a college player who might be drafted,
b) You're an agent who represents A above,
c) you work for one of 32 NFL clubs.
Otherwise, frick it and watch the draft. No one will ever fault you for having enjoyed life too much, nor will you die having wished you spent more time at the office.
Besides, weekends are sacred. No workey!

All this talk of Tivo doesn't make much sense to me. I know you get to watch what all happened, but for me the excitement wouldn't be there as much. In the back of my mind would be the knowledge that this already happened.
If I were you I'd probably work, and just take a 15 minute bathroom break everytime the Boys are up to pick. Of course, I'm just a poor college kid so a $100-$150 in one days work may not seem much to you.
Ok, how close do you work to the sportsbook?
No sports betting in NJ, just the good old fashion way through the 55,000 bookie's that live here.
