Why I would take Lawson or Wimbley w/ our #1 pick.....

Our projected line-up for next season is probably this:

NT - Ferguson
DE- Spears
DE - Canty

OLB - ?
ILB - Adenoyele (sp?)
ILB - Brady
OLB - Ware

BESIDES Ware, where does our pass-rush come from?! NONE of those other players' forte is rushing the passer. They're better against the run. Additionally, we also have Roy Williams to help against the run. I just think we really need another rusher so teams can't just concentrate on neutralizing Ware. I believe Lawson or Wimbley would provide that pass-rush. I don't see Carpenter being better at rushing the passer than those other two.....

I definitely agree in principle, but I think Lawson will get pancaked by any tackle that gets his hands on him. Carpenter at 6-2 1/2 256lbs, is really better suited for the ILB position in a 3-4 defense. The only problem is, Ayodele and James are light years ahead of Carpenter in conditioning and experience. This leaves Wimbley as probably the best draft option for the SOLB position. What I like most about Wimbley, is that he didn't have the benefit of playing alongside Mario Williams or AJ Hawk, yet is still a 1st round talent and deservedly so.

Considering his team mates voted him and not Williams as their Def Line Player of the Year, I would still rather have Lawson. You cannot beat speed= that was Jimmy's mantra.

So are you saying Wimbley didn't benefit playing alongside Brodrick Bunkley?

Also, does it not concern just a little that he only started one year, and played behind two guys who in my opinion will be JAGs at best in the NFL. Thats my only concern with Wimbely.

If we really want to complete the 3-4, then let's hope Ngata falls.

Then we can draft him to be the NT. I would then look at Mark Anderson in rounds 2 or 3. He's as athletic as the others....and just as productive.
