I still don't understand why they (Hou) didn't just trade down therefor paying M.W. less.Really, if they were not going to take the biggest impact player in the draft they should have traded down and gotten as many picks as they could out of the deal. Theya re in a rebuilding mode and it makes no sense to take a DE is such a position when their offense was really the unit that sucked the most last year.

Exactly what I was thinking, I mean there is alot you can do with the 1st pick in the NFL draft & they screwed it up BIG TIME. :lmao2: I'm sorry but its a sweet and sour moment:lmao:

You gotta find a willing partner.Did they look? Surely someone out there would want to trade up for a talent like Bush. Someone who just needed a top notch RB to put them over the top like the Cowboys were when we drafted Dorsett. We traded up to the #2 spot and nailed a HoF RB; you would have to think that someone would be in that position now...Maybe the Colts since they just lost Edge.

They could of worked out a deal with Williams in principle and continued to shop the pick.

Though it might not be the politically correct way to find a willing partner, I'd be willing to bet that a 12 gauge will make a willing partner out of just about anyone.

If they trade with the Colts how are they supposed to get Williams or any Wimbley or Lawson for that matter. If they trade with the colts, they then have the what???.......29th pick.
The only people they could have traded with is probably someone else in the top 5.....so New Orleans, Tennessee, the Jets and the Pack.
Any lower than that and they are not gauranteed to get Williams.......heck some say that New Orleans was looking at Williams pretty hard. Not only that but all of those teams have just as many holes as Houston which means none of them are really that hard to give anything up.
They did what they could.

takes two to tango...nobody was willing to give them fair market value for the pick
and if they had settled on Williams as their guy, they couldnt have traded with anyone but New Orleans and even then would have had to know who the Saints were going to take before doing so

Don't feel bad for them. They are a bunch of delusional bastards who will immediately HATE you if they hear you like Dallas.
They cannot be reasoned with. I quite enjoyed their public meltdown on 610am today in Houston.
It is a riot that it was reported that they had NO offers to trade from other teams and as soon as they sign Williams, all these teams come to NO seeking trades...

That's not actually the truth. The Texans' offense was bad, but not as bad as their defense. They had the second worse defense in the league. Their rushing game was like 15th in the league.
Plus, they switching to a 4-3 this year. It is much harder to find a dominate 4-3 DE than it is to find a great RB. Kubiak is from Denver, they always seem to find RBs later in the draft that do great. Plus, Davis isn't too shabby.
This pick isn't exciting and if I were a Texans fan I would be disappointed, but I don't think it was a bad pick.

its not a bad move by the Texans.. the thing is, they DONT NEED A RB! Domanick Davis is one of the best players on their team and they have a pretty good backup they just used a 2nd rounder on in Verand Morency.. as for Bush's returning abilities? Jerome Mathis is a Pro Bowler for them.. so RB and KR are really the least of their concerns.. if they couldnt find a trade partner, this is probably the best thing they could have done really..

I understand the pick over Bush from a team stand point. It was a position of need. The Texans are not in a position to draft "the best available football player". They got needs all across the board and I believe they still have 3 more 1st day picks. #1 in the 2nd round and #1 and #2 in the 3rd.
I will never feel sorry for the Texan fan.

Sorry to hate a team from Texas but I remember hearing a radio game between them and I think the Browns a few years back. Their announcers were slamming Dallas every chance they got for no reason other than jealousy. It was so bad and rediculous they bragged about how they had the best tailgating in Texas - that the Cowboys fans sucked at tailgating. And mind you, this wasn't even a game against the Cowboys!
Yeah our team sucks but we're better at tailgating than Dallas.

Blazers fan here... Portland did not have a chance at Hakeem. He was taken first by Houston. And Portland really wanted a Center. If they had won the lottery and gotten Olajuwon, you have a Blazers dynasty in the early 90s. But alas...

There GM said yesterday that they haven't received 1 offer to move up.
then they shoulda let it slip they wanted to trade down a spot or two. NO is said to be getting a LOT of offers, so it's pretty clear they woulda been there had they played the game "right".

Ralph Sampson and Houston tanked the season to get to draft Hakeem. Great move and caused the NBA to begin the lottery.

This was a combine pick. Stupid move.

I happen to think Mario Williams has very dangerous Bust potential.
By all accounts, he underachieved and didn't do much of anything for the first half of the season, did very little against top ACC competition, and made most of his sacks against subpar competition.
He also had Manny Lawson on the other defensive end, speed rushing with that 4.4 speed, so how the hell did Williams not light up the world?
NO way I'd take any defensive player, other than a blue chip CB, over an offensive player like Bush.

Oh, they are just es. I still remember the preseason game in dallas a few years ago. I heard their pregame coverage, which was horrible. All they could do was trash the Cowboys and Texas stadium. They were comparing it to Reliant, yet failing to mention that it was a 30 year old stadium compared to a brand new one...then they would say how great the "history" of the building was.
After their loss to Dallas, in order to keep their fans happy, they harped on that it was only a PREseason game and that they still had the series lead over Dallas. Then they went on to re-air their regular season win over Dallas several times that week

Part of the hate from Houston fans is the fact that there are tons of Cowboys fans in the Houston area and that will always be. Myself included.
When the Oilers were bombing the Cowboys were winning Super Bowls. It's all about jealousy and people don't handle jealousy very well.

After Hurricane Katrina, Houston opened its arms to the people of New Orleans and was a great neighbor.
And they just keep on giving.
To me, this is a gift.
Houston absolutely blew it by passing up on a once-a-decade player like Bush.
