View Full Version : Does that mean we've scrapped Burnett?
All our LBs are young. I think Burnett has talent but obviously they feel something else.
Did we just make a 2nd round pick a backup linebacker with this pick?

I say the Cowboys deal Singleton and let Burnett and Carpenter duel it out for the position in TC. Then they switch off during the season.

I think he was a backup linebacker last year...

A) He's been injury prone.
B) He's moving inside and can back up Ware better than any other LB on the roster.
C) In the 3-4 you need as many impact LBs as you can get.

"Deal?"
Who in God's name would give a pick for Singleton?

I think Burnett will be a great complament to Carpenter..Carpenter can stop the run and cover on 1st and 2nd and Burnett can come in on 3rd and ruxh the passer

He's gonna back up there and for Ware.
Keep in mind James is in his final season of his contract, and while he had a nice season last year he did fall off toward the end and was not much of a playmaker.
Burnett could be starting inside next year.

If you put him in a package he doesn't look that bad.

Bobby Carpenter was maybe even a better pass rusher in college than Burnett. Many times Carpenter played DE on passing situations.

No it doesn't.
We run a 3-4...why do so many people not get that...you need 5 or 6 starting quality LBs and 2 or 3 playmakers.

I don't know if anyone would give us a pick for him, but I do know our defence was less effective after Singleton went down.

I know our defense was less effective without him too. But was that "him" or was it because we had that POS Fujita out there?
I'm thinking it's because Fujita sucked.

When you play the 3-4, you need a plethera of depth at LB and now we've got 4 very young, good ones. Burnett is more of a OLB, while Carpenter can play both inside and out. I still like Burnett, he'll be a good player.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that we've scrapped Burnett, no, not at all. However, I think this does perhaps send somewhat of a message that Parcells may view Burnett's contributions, or at least his contributions in the early part of the season as fairly limited at best, IMO.

To look on the bright side, he should be one heckuva Special Teams player.

It's called hedgeing your bet. Are they sure that Burnett will workout ... I'd say no, but I doubt they are 100% on Carpenter also. Truth is both, given their talents are more than 50% to hit I would say ... so between the two your chances have been astronomically increased that you've fixed that position opposite Ware ... I'm very encouraged.

I think Burnett still has a good future. But we need a lot of linebackers because it is the most important position in the 3-4. Right now we have Ware, Carpenter, James, Ayodele, Burnett, Singleton, Fowler, Shanle and Thornton. That is a pretty good LB group with a lot of depth. Remember, last year we got killed with a lot of LBs on injured reserve.

Burnett can backup any of the LB spots.
