What do you guys see happening with Kevin Burnett and Justin Beriault this season ? Do any of you think they can start in our D ?

Burnet can ..... if he stays healthy

I see Justin as our Bill Bates of this generation.

If healthy, I would not count either of them out!

Beriault has a cronic knee issue...I think he's gone.

Coleman/Watkins at FS
Roy/Davis at SS

Burnett will be fine when he heals...he has big time talent, just needs to get healthy. They will figure out how to get him on the field.

Burnett won't start but will be a very solid backup..

Beriault is most likely gone, although I hope I am wrong.. Im hoping that he makes it to the practice squad and doesnt get picked up by anyone..

Beriault has a cronic knee issue...I think he's gone.If this were true we would have simply made an injury settlement with him last year instead of placing him on IR.

Beriault backing up SS and Burnett backing up Ware.

With four safeties almost a lock to make the team (Williams, Coleman, Watkins, and Davis), Beriault's chances are slim. If healthy, Burnett will battle Ayodele for one of the starting ILB spots. I expect him to be a solid backup at ILB this season.

I just heard that Mickey said that a few weeks back...I can't prove or deny. If he's healthy then great...let him compete with Davis as back up SS. We all know Davis is not going anywhere after resigning him...

We could always trade Davis too New Orleans ...... we gave him the same contract they agreed too.

beriault really showed a lot before he had surgery. i really hope we don't write him off yet. heck if jacon rogers got a 2nd shot then beriault should get one

If Kevin Burnett and Justin Beriault did not have a chance to make this team..I doubt they would still be on the roster.

Things could change but I give both theses players a better than average shot at making this team.

You can't trade a player if you just match an offer sheet they signed.

Burnett will be a solid backup if he can get healthy. He'll no doubt be on the squad. Berriault must have an impressive camp to force Parcells to keep an extra S.

Davis for Bush straight up?

Wouldn't do it. Bush would never see the field over Julius and Marion. He doesn't play special teams either. You could argue he'd make a good slot reciever but we're going to a 2 TE formation.

Davis on the other hand is a special teams demon. He's irreplaceable.

Burnett is almost assured to make the team barring injury or him doing something really stupid. I see him as like Bradie James in his second year, getting some playing time and being mainly there for special teams. If I had to gamble, I'd say he'll get time in the possible pass defense packages since Ayodele isn't really known for pass coverage.

Beriault may have some problems with his knee. I think it was Galloway who said he can't keep his knee healthy, but I don't think that was actually confirmed.

I wouldn't count on Marcus Coleman making the roster. Sure, he's a veteran and a Parcells former pick, but he hasn't been very good in coverage the last two years, is old (say what you will, but Parcells has been willing to gamble on young players over old players lately) and they only signed him to a 1 year deal.

If Beriault's knee is okay and he makes plays like he did in last preseason, I could see him easily as a backup. But, I'm really hoping Pat Watkins tears it up so they can have a true FS alongside Roy Williams.

What did he show? He had two good games in the preseason.

Next year ..... we have to see if the new guys can play yet.

No way do we keep 5 safeties, and Beriault would get signed if we tried to stash him on the PS.

Chances are it will be between Coleman and Beriault. Do we keep 2 true FS and 2 true SS and get rid of Beriault, who doesn't fit where we need him and has bad knees?

Or do we keep 3 SS, keep Davis playing FS, Beriault to SS behind Roy, and dump the aging Coleman?

Honestly, I think it is likely we cut Coleman, but I'm not a huge fan of either, so I don't care much.

Berry-O is a long shot at best. Burnett is still being counted on. JJ mentioned him on the ESPN interview late this afternoon.

I actually think Pile would be the 4th. He's younger and probably similar to Coleman in terms of his play at FS. Pile's STs play gives him the nod.

So do you cut both Coleman and Beriault to keep Pile?

Coleman is just another guy to me. An Izell Reese, if you will. An experienced stop-gap type player you have in TC just in case all else fails.

Beriault has to stay on the field. Who knows - he may be a better player than Pile. we'll have to see. But right now, he's probably on the outside looking in.

I just don't understand why we signed Keith Davis...he's the worst of the bunch!

Strickly because of his abilities on special teams.

Keith Davis just may have become the next Bill Bates

starting lbs this year are James, Carpenter, Ware, and Ayodele. Burnett and Boiman are backups. Who gets cut?

JohnsKey19
04-30-2006, 07:20 PM
I'd say Shanle gets cut. Both Boiman and Burnett can play both OLB and ILB. Fowler stuffs the run and is strong on STs. I think Fowler gets the 7th and final spot.
