Sorry... not much today...
Mickey:
One guy that caught my eye at rook camp this weekend was Jason Hatcher. I think the Cowboys may have found something here. He ran a 4.7 40 before practice the other day. I realize this wasn't in pads, but he couldn't be stopped. The only time he was slowed down was when he was clothes-lined. He hasn't played alot of DE, but he is extremely athletic. He is a also a very motivated player. He is married with two kids and another on the way. He told me he needs this job. He will line up behind Canty probably, but he is more athletic than Canty.
I got my fill of TO questions. Bill counted wrong. There were 48 questions before Sham asked if they could tak about the draft. The PC was 50 minutes and he took 30 minutes answering TO questions. It's funny, people got the answers they asked for, then turned around and wrote whatever they wanted.

Ain't that the truth.
I got into a debate with Skins fans over at CPND. Basically I stated that I thought T.O. was too risky of a signing for my tastes and he'll likely blow up sooner or later. However, I thought that Parcells did indeed want T.O. on the team.
They claimed that it Jones that wanted him and Parcells was stuck with him and Parcells has never had a volatile player like T.O.
They even claimed that LT wasn't a distraction when he was playing with the Giants (gee, he only served a 30 day suspension in 1988 and Belichick thought he was a distraction).
Anyway, after Parcells came out and said he wanted T.O. on the team they STILL don't believe he really means it and he's just "toeing the company line."
I've been hard on Mick in the past and will probably continue to do so in the future, but at least he's seen how ridiculous and bad the Dallas media has looked. They claimed they "represent the fans" and when the fans told them they don't and said that the media will ask T.O. questions ad nauseam, the press said that we didn't know what we were talking about. And as Spags pointed out, the fans were right in the end.
It's a huge issue I have with the media and while it happens in other types of outlets, sports media is usually the worst. Instead of providing good detail on what, why, where and when something happened. They are more interested in just breaking the story first. In essence, their analysis sucks and that's why I'll always read guys like Dr. Z and Raphael Vela over the Peter King's and JFE's of the world.

Sadly, what Mickey said about the sports reporters applies to ALL MSM these days! That's why blogs have become so big--& why newspapers again this year reported a major drop in readership. As a former reporter myself, I can attest that there is no such thing as an unbiased reporter or "the people's right to know." It's actually "our paper's agenda & how our editor wants it spun." Ditto for the sports reporters. I don't like the TO signing, but it happened & I'm over it. He's part of the team. The reporters just can't let it go. Imagine, the nerve of Jerruh & Bill--they didn't consult the media before signing TO, & don't care what the media think now! So, the media must bore us every day with 1,276,982 columns on why TO is bad.
(Humorous note: "NFL Live" on ESPN started with a bit from Sunday's PC--the part where Big Bill said he was done talking about TO until training camp starts. Did anyone catch the quick, very plaintive, whine from (I think) JJT, "TRAINING camp?!?!")

I don't disagree with Spagnola's conclusion, but I'm sorry I don't have a lot of respect for a guy who is just a Cowboys PR boy that impersonates a writer/reporter.

This is an unbelievable quote.
There have been several articles lately (Sapgs, LBOH, Mosely) that explain how the writers have been lambasted by the fans telling them to leave the fantasy, TO, and Lack of Bill Speak alone. people want juice, news, insights, and facts.
Still the idiot or mediots write whatever the Hell they want ,
Truth be dam$%!

To Spags' credit, he's been more than willing to chastise, criticize, and outright bash Dallas. He was sometimes brutal on Dallas in 2002 - 2004. The last two years he was pretty positive about the team. He's been pretty kind to the head coaches, but it's not hard to like Parcells and Campo was a very likeable guy in the media's mind and I don't recall any writer really going after Campo (or even remotely as bad as they are going after Parcells right now).
He's always said nice things about Jones which I guess comes with the job, but OTOH the media usually goes out of their way to bash Jones and not exactly tell the whole side of the story. In essence, that part of it balances out in my mind.
Much like in ESPN's SportsCentury where several Dallas media members put all of the blame on Jimmy Johnson quitting on Jones, when Johnson had plenty to do with his own dismissal.
Also remember that Mickey was relentless on Quincy while he was starting and wasn't afraid to bash Bruce Coslet, Frank Verducci, and other players and coaches.
I usually only read the end part of Mickey's columns because that's where he's just reporting things. His writing style lacks any semblance of ebb and flow and I don't care much for his analysis. Occasionally he'll come up with some good nuggets and insight, much like he has about the media with the T.O. signing.

If Hatcher is lining up behind Canty, where does that leave Greg Ellis?:eek:Read a blurb...Mosley or Spags...mentioned they have more stuff in store for Ellis this year. The plan is to find other ways for him to get him on the field.
Like Dooms said, tho. Not a bad problem to have. The didn't pay that 500k bonus for nothing.

I was following that thread myself over there and I have to agree that they will read whatever they want into quotes to satisfy their own opinions.
Of course CPND has been pretty sparce as of late. I remember back when Gibbs was hired I got some pretty informed responses on how the Counter Trey was run and what kind of personel Gibbs favored in the past. They even have some decent (but not Adam) stat guys. But lately it seems no one really wants to think before they reply. I have like 3 or 4 guys telling me that Ryan Clark was a good safety and leading the league in giving up rushing yards past 10 yards beyond the line of scrimage is not a reflection of the SS. One reporter said something about them churning 25% of their roster to a chorus of disagreement on the thread, but when I went through player by player to see if he was right (I got 30% actually) the thread went silent. Oh well... More time over here I guess.

seriously though, Coleman will most likely be cut and with Glover gone that means Stanley and Hatcher will just replace those guys
