About two years ago, I didnt even know Cowboys fan forums even existed. Now that I do, I'm addicted. Combination of getting the latest news, and some credible or far fetched rumors, keeps me checking in almost on a daily basis. Plus getting to read others opinions.
Getting to meet other fans has been a highlight of being a member of a forum. Still surprises me when I talk to a fan and they dont know about forums.
So just curious, what drives you guys to check in??

So just curious, what drives you guys to check in??When Emmitt broke the rushing record I felt like I had to talk about it. I found the DMN forums. Got invited here by Duane and really just enjoyed how much fun most of these folks are. For someone who craves football news and likes to shoot the breeze, it was a perfect fit. I've made some enemies, but I've made a lot more friends. People I just enjoy laughing with.

What brings me here is having a chance to discuss the issues of the Dallas Cowboys with other people who have a similar interest in the team. Here I get to have intelligent and thoughtful discussion on a variety of issues concerning the team either directly or indirectly (or sometimes only theoretically). It is my place to relax and get away from the rest of the crap that goes with living in the real world.

I have been hanging out at various Cowboys forums since the early 90s (started with the OLD DMN before it was closed and Molly's board). Big Dog Cowboy and Skip kept telling me what a great place the Zone was and I finally decided to check it out. After getting past the ENORMOUS number of posts every day and figuring out that I really could post something without it having been said 25 times by others before I could type out my response I have made it a home.
Now this is my primary hangout since news hits here faster than anywhere else and some of the best posters on the web are here. I still visit some others but this is the one I frequent the most. It's always hoppin! :bounce:

I have been posting on Cowboys message boards since 1997. The first one was the TSN message board. It didn't have much for securities so the trolls were out in force and could not be regulated.
I frequent three forums now. The Zone, the Ranch, and the Forum.

Went to about.com's football forum since it always comes up when searching for mock drafts, then BigD, summer, and MB3 told me about this place.
It's awesome, greatest forum anywhere. Really helped after I got banned from the other one for a run in with two absolute nut-job Packer fans. :)

I started out in the DMN. One of the posters there, Jgee I think, was great. hit a link to another site, was there for about 1.5yrs (?), and found this site, as well as others during that time.
This site is always rolling with information. Plus I love to bring some info of my own during TC.

Do you all get people who come in here and gloat after the Cowboys lose? That's one thing I hate on Skins forums from other teams and something I'll never do.
I think this is a great forum with many knowledgable posters who can debate without being totally blind and homerish.

For me, I just love to talk Cowboys' football all year long. Pretty simple.
What I think about is how in the world did all of survive prior to the age of the Internet? I guess each of us probably had a life. Thank you Al Gore!
My internet surfing for Cowboy news goes back to the '95 season when the DMN was available on through Prodigy. Does anyone else remember those days?

If you were to consider this site objectively, from an outsider perspective, you would still have to say it's one of the better designed and better run discussion sites on the internet, period. There's just no way to argue that. The mods are mature adults (seriously, I'm not trying to make you geezers sound old) and there is a prevalent sense of humour around...witness the "rue the day" meme going about. The looks and design are honestly just beautiful, it's one of the fastest, cleanest, easiest to use site on the entire internet. We have insider information, people who actually work to get real content, it's free, and then great things happen like sending kids to Eldorado Owen's camp. I can't say enough good things about CowboysZone...it's just plain quality in a world of garbage.

What brings you all to the Zone??
Living out of state, being a Cowboy fan meant getting the news a week (or more) late. I subscribed to 3 magazines and read them from cover to cover the day they arrived. After Al Gore invented the internet, I finally got a computer and couldn't believe my eyes. Every day was Christmas. After jumping around from forum to forum i had my eye on this one. I'll admit I was a lurker for what seemed forever. Then the CowboysZone fired up and I dove in and never looked back. I want all the latest news every day. Even in the middle of May.

Anyway, I love the debate and the quick information I can get from fellow Boys fans.

...a very pleasant fan to be around when watching the games.
I chart plays, draw alignments and plain ole annoy regular football fans. I went to the computer in search of Cowboy forums in September of 97 and found the DMN.
It was refreshing to find people of a like mind, but also irritating to put up with people of a different bend. Ultimately it's the quick relay of news that brings me back to the forums.
This is really my only hobby.
I came here after the DMN cavitated because everyone began complaining of the new format the DMN changed to in attempts to accomodate more advertising. Also by that time I had grown weary of the constant flame wars and immature personalities surfacing there on a regular basis.
Someone from the Zone was always hawking on the DMN, but I didn't take a look until the mass exodus. At that time I think Reality and Chief were the main representatives of the site.

I started out on usenet back in 94 and it was really the forerunner for these forums now... as people from different parts of the country or world for that matter would share information...it slowly became my one stop shop...it was later taken over by politics and with no way to moderate it..it soon had too much noise to sound ratio..I signed up over at the ranch but the Hutch and Q wars became far too ugly...so I found my way here and Hostile, Juke, CBZ, Brainpaint and Trickblue were very kind and helpful and through their leadership most of the other posters followed their example...So we learned we can disagree without being disagreeable..if you know what I mean..

Being a fan means you stay interested even in May. This board provides news and information about the team I have stayed passionate about since childhood. I'm a distant fan now (I moved away from Dallas and Jerry hired Parcells) and that makes the internet even more important because I get to part of a 'virtual' community that talks Cowboys and keeps me closer to Texas at the same time. I get to vent on the media when they stink the place up and the conversation here is pretty knowledgable. What more could I ask for.....oh, anybody got any season tickets they need to give away?
I actually read this board for awhile...got to know Cali at another "place" LOL and he told me Hostile was almost as cool as he was....LOL and that this place was big but all good people...so Id have to say Cali too.
Actually as a footnote, I really learned a lot from Cali..and still learn from him everyday......he's a very classy guy and a very good friend...who taught me we're all just people and fans....

I discovered the forum doing a google search.
I'm not an extreme type of fan when it comes to statistics, records, game plans, offensive/defensive plays, etc.. Maybe cause I'm a detail oriented person, it would stress me out trying to get all info down correctly.
So... I enjoy the game by not worrying about this type of stuff, although I do get mad when they are not playing well.
I think each one of us is unique in our own way.
But, ultimately we are all DIEHARD FANS for one reason or another! :D
I was at the ole DMN forums too, before I came here...
Frustration with the usernames and passwords (I was traveling alot back then) drove me crazy. When things were blowing up over there I ended up in Ice's backroom...Which has evloved since then and is a real cool kick back place.
I used to split some time between the Star Tel forums and here, but the quality here won me over and I haven't been back there in a couple of years.
Can't even remember how I found this place...lol

I got here when KittyMamma did a PC recap and it was posted over on the "other" Cowboys message board.
The thing about this board is that it's NEVER dead. And what other site can I get the salary cap and statistical info that Adam provides, every PC and just about every radio show interview extensively recapped, and get to watch videos of just the passing plays of our 3rd string QB over in NFL Europe and the highlights of a 3rd round pick that played at Grambling? My roommate is a Bears fan that hates Dallas and even he's impressed with all of the things this site offers.
Plus, I notice a lot of fans are like me...from New York. I've always told people that the Cowboys were wildly popular in the state of New York in the 70's and 80's...way before the 90's dynasty...because they were on TV in NY ALL of the time. This site just proves that I'm not nuts.

Hmmm, if I remember correctly, I was bored and trolling the web looking for 'boys news.
Found the FWST board and if anyone's been there, they know what that place is like. Someone posted a link from here crediting Brownsugar w/some insider news. I was intrigued, because it came from a woman. I came to visit and saw LaTunaNostra posting and then someone mentioned she was a lady, too. I saw the respect she was given from the guys on the board in the discussions and from there I was sold.
That's a real selling point for me. I'm obviously not a big X and O person, but I've learned alot just sitting on this board. And for the most part, I feel my opinions are respected, even if people disagree with them. They're not tossed aside as just being from a woman.
Like others have mentioned, this board offers alot to most any level of fan. The total statisticians (Rich and Adam), the X and O folks (too many to name), the blocked-at-work-I-can't-stream-radio fan (Felix, me, and others), and just the casual fan looking for news...

Well, I knew after the fact, but from what I understand, a fan named Beavis, who was a troll basically, posted or emailed maybe (?) threat to DMN people or posters or something like that.
All hell broke loose and they shut the board for a while, since one day it was there and next day when I went there, it wasn' there. I stopped visiting there after that, and found out later in bits and pieces what happened.

Before finding online message boards, I used to drive my friends and family crazy with my Cowboy talk. I could simply talk them into submission. No one I know has the knowledge or the desire to talk as in-depth or as often about the Cowboys as I do.
In the early 90's I used to talk constantly about Dallas and you could see the blank stares indicating that they didn't know or care about what I was talking about. Particularly when it comes to the draft... which is a passion of mine.
Let's face it... how much we love the Cowboys and love to talk about everything Cowboy related, just isn't normal. It is almost impossible to find someone to have a discussion with about the Cowboys... at least a discussion that is in depth like we want to have.
Here at the zone, I'm surrounded by people who love to talk about Dallas as much as I do and by people who have the knowledge and understanding to have discussions that are fulfilling to a true fan of the Cowboys and of the draft.
So... simply put, I come here because I love the Cowboys and the people here love them as much as I do. Plus the folks here have the football smarts to talk the talk.
And the individuals here are a very smart, and unique group. A lot of personalities make up the membership here... some are great and some aren't. But it is always interesting and fun.

Adopted the Zone in November 2004 ... discovered several step brother fans (they know who they are, but they'd never admit it!). Although we prefer different fandoms, we disagree much less than we thought; and even agree every now and then.:)

I stumbled on to our site, I don't even know how long ago. Back then, it was much smaller but it was always extremely good content, for the most part. I simply read, like most, for a couple of months and then I posted. I was fortunate enough to be able to converse with a few of the very Sr. members of this board and I found that I loved it. Perhaps a day later, Chief encouraged me to continue to post and I took his advice.
Good advice Chief and thank you. For better or worse, I suppose your stuck with me now.

I started out at the Austin360 forum. When it became too political, I looked for another site and found this one. I took a 2 year hiatus to get some personal issues worked out and now I'm back with a much different perspective.

Been to alot of Cowboy sites over the years and was directed here by someone from the old DMN board. I cant believe what a total disaster that place turned out to be...
This site is elite because its not ranting and raving by idiotic Sunday only football fans. This site for the most part has passionaye fans therefore the football "intellect" is a cut above...The Manny Lawson, underwear Olympic lovefest, notwithstanding.

I used to be a member of the DMN forum. That thing went to hades in a hand basket.
Not sure how, but from the DMN forum found out about this one and never looked back.
This forum is so far and away the best Cowboys forum that is not even funny.

I started posting on the Old DMN when it was rumored that Parcells would be the coach of the Cowboys. Needing to be detoxed I found my way to this board and have been here several years.

Started out on the old DMN board... migrated to the first version of this site and have hung around ever since.
I miss some of the posters from version I but Juke, CBZ, Hos, BP, Yeager, BZ, WG, Alexander, ABQ, BDC, Sarge, Zaxor, Barb and many, many others make it a great stay.

I came from the old DMN board, too, where I was more of a lurker than a poster. When it got butchered, literally, it wasn't worth reading anymore and I found Ice's Backroom, which has morphed into dtxcowboys.com and I was a lurker/occasional poster for a couple of years at the Ranch and finally decided to join the mazevo board and it immediately split and I wound up here just as it came together.
The Ranch is a good board but has way too many immature posters and trolls to suit me. Detox is a great board that doesn't have a lot of posters but they're very good and they're like family but it has entirely different ground rules and isn't for kids. Iceburg, JBMhend and the others do a good job there.
For mature, knowledgeable posters and the latest information accurately presented, this is the place. It's like one of those talk shows where they discuss things with experts only you get to participate.
The great mods keep the place swept clean and I really appreciate that.

Generally, this is how I operate with these boards:
First stop of the day, the Zone--breaking news generally occurs here first.
Second stop, DCC--they have all the newspaper articles posted quickly.
Third stop, The Ranch :insane: --by this time, I'm looking for some off beat, totally out of this world, doesn't make any sense to me topic, with posters who clearly are in personality twilight zones I don't encounter much in my real life, but they still manage to give me a good laugh to start my day!
All in all. these boards are fun to read, and do a great service for their fans!
But, imho the Zone is the best moderated forum I read!..:thankyou:

one of them sounds a lot like WG....and it tells me "to go away and never post here again" so that actually makes me come here more often and post more just to spite her
two of them sound like the old guys up in the balcony from the Muppet Show, and they want to pan everything anyone says and make fun of it
I think the loudest of them all though is the voice of Jerry Seinfeld reminding me of an episode or quote

THree quick point about what's great here. First, the remarkable variety of articles, columns and newsletters that zoners post here. If it's about the Boys - it'll be here for certain!
Second, Also there are so many well informed fans with a decent sence of humor - interesting takes to ponder.
Third, those of us far from Taxas, like me in California, can be part of a community of Cowboys fans and not be isolated.
It a great crowd to hang with.
