This new moniker of "Crankcase" given to QC had me thinking last night while I was trying to fall asleep, of just how many monikers there are out there that are given to players...
Playmaker = Irvin
Primetime = Sanders
Manster = Randy White...ect...
Who's you favorite, or what are some others that you like, or know from any team, from any era?

Sweetness is the all time one.
I like Calicowboy's name for T-New, "The Newspaper," because he covers everything.
Eugene "The Hit Machine" Lockhart was always a favorite of mine.
"Mean" Joe Greene was good. Johnny Carson asked him what amde him so mean. He replied, "I just think about my mother-in-law."
Slingin' Sammy Baugh was a good one too.

You think 'silent assassin' is a bit redundant? I mean, the opposite would equal 'noisy assassin', being noisy probably isn't an asset in the assassination business, kind of an Inspector Clouseau of assassins.
Isn't Jack Tatum's book 'They Call Me Assassin'?

Wasn't that hung on Alworth by "Dandy" Don Meridith?Actually Don Merideth was no longer playing for the Cowboys by the time Alworth go here. I don't know who gave Alworth the nickname but he had it while still in San Diego.
Alworth came to the Cowboys in a three-way trade that sent Lance Rentzel to the LA Rams (I forget who San Diego got) after he (Rentzel) got in some trouble here in Dallas. Rentzel was a WR who wore #19 same as Alworth and he DID play with Merideth but I forget his nickname.

BTW Kenny was "The Snake" long bofore Jake Plummer came along.
I was listening to sports radio in Atlanta and the question was to name some player's nicknames that you don't like.
One guy with a deep southern accent says "I can't stand Jake Plummer's nickname.."the snake" because he stole it."
The host of the show says "yeah, I can see that as being an insult to Kenny Stabler."
The southerner replies "screw Ken Stabler, I'm talking about JAKE ROBERTS."
