Another year another Draft.
So what was the best draft pick the cowboys have made since the turn of the centurey(2000)?
Answer and Why, please
Mine would be Terrance Newman. Basically a shut down corner in these Leagues NFL days. Aleady a great CB, and still has room to be even better. Young, and plays a position that barring injury, can play well into the 30's.

Jason Witten. We stole him in the 3rd round.
Canty is someone I believe will challenge Witten for that distinction soon. Hopefully this year.

Agree with Hoss.
Witten ... a Pro Bowler in the third round.

Depends on what sense. Best value? Best player?
Best player is probably Newman, he's top 5 in the league at a key position.
Best value would be Witten.

Best steal would be Witten, closely followed by Canty. Best overall pick would have to be either Newman or Roy Williams.

I agree with Hos, but I'm going out on a limb and saying after this season we will all be singing praises to Julius Jones after he runs for 1600+ yards. He's gonna be a big time back this year! :)

Newman played like a top 5 corner last year.
However, he needs to do it back to back seasons (in other words, show consistancy) before I consider him as one of the league's best.

Best Value...Witten.
Best pick, Right now I would say newman but I have a feeling Ware will step up huge this year and change that.

I couldn't agree more. I really do believe that Julius will have an amazing year.

Well, that is going out on a limb...
Jones has to do a lot this year for me to sing his praises.
I am expecting 1100 or so yards from him this year. Maybe 1200 if he can play a full season.

I could see Ware as the best pick.

I could see Ware as the best pick.I was thinking Ware also as long as he continues to build on that impressive rookie season.
As for value it's Witten hands down.

One other name to throw out there, and I am sure it will get reactions on both sides.
Rob Petitti.
If he is in much better shape this year, as it has been reported, and learned a great deal with exp.
He could turn out to be a great pick considering the round he was taken in.
Now once again that depends on some If's.

I do undertand why some are in the wait and see mode on this kid...my wait and see mode is keeping him healthy. As far as talent...this kid has IT. I watched to many games over and over and saw what he is capable of when healthy. Healthy is the question mark for all of us.

Witten was first to make impression off round 3.
Followed closely by....
Canty, Petitti, James.
What Canty and Petitti do this year will cement both sides of the ball.
James is last because it took him three years to get there.:starspin

He fooled me last year thinking he was going to have a great year.

If you look at his games before ankle injury vs his games after injury...he was a completely different player. While he was playing through it he was not even close to what he's capable of. I think most people remember him last year running after his injury where he was average at best. The last few games he was getting back to his self. I think we will see him break out big time.

I hope so.
But until he does so, I won't be penciling him in for anything more than 1200.

I think it's going to be Rob Pettiti. I think he's going to turn out to be a pretty good player for us. Easily best value. Right now, I'd say Witten is the best pick but I think it's going to end up being Ware. JMO of course.
After next season, I will immediatly change my pick to Brady Quinn, of course. ;)

Best draft pick in terms of value for where the player was drafted is Witten. He has already made the Pro Bowl twice and is only 24 years old.
The best 5 players chosen overall are:
1. Tnew
2. RoyW
3. Witten
4. De Ware
5. Julius Jones

"young" is a relative thing. Wasn't he already 25 or thereabouts when we drafted him? I'm not dissing the pick, he has to be among our tops since 2000, but he isn't a spring chicken.
My pick would be Witten.

Obviously, value would go to Witten. As far as talent, it would be a toss-up between Julius Jones & DeMarcus Ware. JJ was rated as the 5th-7th best RB in the 2004 draft by many "gurus". He has proven that he is the equal of ANY running back drafted that year, when healthy. He has everything you want in a franchise RB.
DWare is obviously one of my favorite players already. Of all the so-called "rush" DEs we drafted over the past decade, he is head & shoulders above them all. He tied for the team lead in sacks with 8 his rookie season, & that was with changing to not only a different position, but a different formation as well. He will only continue to get better, with his super work ethic & superior strength and speed. I look for both to stay healthy this year & to go to the first of many trips to Honolulu.

Newman turns 28 at the start of the season.
He turned 25 at the start of his rookie season.
DeAngelo Hall turns 23, Jimmy Williams is 22... Wow. Atlanta has some young corners with some serious potential.

These aren't the best picks by any stretch, but it should be noted how well we've drafted in the 7th round, as of late. Crayton, Reeves, Ratliff, hell even N.Jones are nice picks so late in the draft.
