Redskins | Portis wants to win a ring or two
Tue, 4 Jul 2006 11:08:43 -0700
Casey Husbands, of Redskins.com, reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis would like to win a Super Bowl ring or two. Portis likes the changes the team has made on offense heading into the 2006 season. What's an opposing defense to do in 2006? Responded Portis: "They'll have to pick their poison." What lies ahead for him as a possible target could be this: re-establishing himself as one of the game's most prolific touchdown makers. With the Denver Broncos, Portis found his way to the end zone 31 times in his first two seasons in the league. He slipped to seven scores for the Redskins of 2004 and jumped back up to 12 last year. Asked about what his spot in 2006, Portis predicted at minicamp that some Redskins offensive players were in for "spectacular" seasons. As to whether he'll ever achieve additional franchise records, Portis says it would be nice but at the same time not essential. "All of the stats don't matter," insists Portis. "Every year, you're going to have a guy come in from college who feels like he's the best running back in the game. Right now, all of the stats and the publicity don't really matter. All that matters is wins."

If he wants some rings, he may have to follow TO's example and force a cut so he can go try to join the Cowboys as a free agent.

Well...
Technically he has won one and has been to two.
And... Before you say he was riding the bench he did win a pivotal game for them to get to the superbowl.
Try again...

I dunno, maybe it's just me - but before Cowboys fans start belittling the Redskins' chances, shouldn't they concentrate on winning a playoff game for the 1st time since 1996?

I think 'Skins fans should concentrate on winning more than two games in the past 16 or the series (or whatever the figure it is), before they start attempting to ridicule 'Boys fans.

I can't imagine what they would be like if they concentrated on having their offense show up in the playoffs. Look out! They may have actually been able to compete against a team playing without the MVP of the league. We'll never know.
Shame on you, Redskin nation, for not concentrating hard enough. Maybe they had the Eastern Motors song stuck in their head.

not really, we don't really care about playoff wins, i'd just as soon not make the playoffs if we're not going to win the SB.
I'm not belittling their chances but when players start shooting their mouths off like this...talking super bowls, rushing yards, rushing titles, setting records...that's about the time they get injured or something happens and the earth falls out from under them...

You RedStinks also have a completely new system coming this year...right? (can you answer that little question)?
Coach Tuna, has had his system in place for, what, 4 years? St. Gibbs is hiring everyone he can to help him coach your team...:lmao:

You don't get to chose when it's logic time for anyone until you show you are able to comprehend it yourself.
Also, you don't need to keep up with the lame insults to 'attempt' to make a point. All it does is make you look stupid and it certainly doesn't add to the conversation at hand. You hate the Redskins. That's plain for everyone to see. You have nothing to prove, now. Either add something of value here or just move on. The rest of us are tired of your stupid emoticon filled posts that have absolutely no point at all.

Yes, this franchise does know more about Super Bowls than the Skins current coaching staff.
I wasn't comparing franchise to franchise, all time. Simply put our current coaching staff has more SuperBowl experience than your current coaching staff.
Gibbs - 4 Superbowl apperances, and 3 victories.
Parcells - 3 SB appearances and 2 victories.
Gregg Williams - 1 appearance, 0 wins.
Mike Zimmer - 1 appearance, 1 win
Al Saunders - 1 appearance, 1 win
Throw in Joe Bugels 4 appearances and 3 wins and it's not even close.

Gibbs - 4 Superbowl apperances, and 3 victories.
Parcells - 3 SB appearances and 2 victories.New math:
Super Bowl appearance/victory during non-strike year = 1 point
Super Bowl appearance/victory during strike year = .5 points
Gibbs: .5 + 1 + .5 + 1 = 3 Super Bowl appearances/victories
Parcells: 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 Super Bowl appearance/victories
It's a dead heat! :wink3:

Typical.
Bottom line, the "franchise" (meaning the Dallas Cowboys) has more experience building Super Bowl Champions was Doomsday101's contention and on that he is 100% correct.
Jerry and his son are part of that. A big part. Period.

Not the current coaching staff.
1) The coaching staff was never originally mentioned.
2) Nowhere in the physics of the universe is "knowing more" about winning championships equated to having more people on your staff who have won championships, especially if two of them existed on the same coaching staff that won those said championships.

Why is he here talkin noise anyway. Our franchise has almost doubled their SB ring count and we've beaten them like a drum 15 of the last 18 games we've played them. We have a winning record at Fedex Field which is our home away from home. They won 2 games against us last year and all of the sudden they come here to talk noise.
