Giants | Arrington impressive so far
Wed, 5 Jul 2006 17:20:22 -0700
Jim Corbett, of the USA Today, reports New York Giants LB LaVar Arrington has impressed his new coaching staff and teammates with his offseason work habits and attitude. "He's playing with a huge chip on his shoulder to prove what he can do when he's healthy," Giants LB Antonio Pierce says. "That, along with the other parts we've added on this defense, creates a great vibe." Arrington has always been best blitzing off the edge. Defensive coordinator Tim Lewis plans to keep opposing quarterbacks on edge by deploying Arrington in creative ways in concert with DEs Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora.

Arrington is a very good player and the Skins only let him go because of money/owner's pride.
I really wish we could have snagged him. He is a difference maker. When the games really counted Washington had no problems putting him out there on defense.
In their playoff win he had 9 tackles, 1 pick which he returned 21 yards and 1 forced fumble. It was arguably the best day of the season by a Washington defender.

Youre wrong. Money had something to do with it but it was not the only reason. That being said lavar will def. play with a chip on his shoulder and I'am def. worried he will save his best for when he plays the redskins. Oh and when the games that you said really counted, sure lavar was playing but never on 3rd down, which are kinda important....dont ya think???
That pick was deflected and went right into his hands. That forced fumble went out of bounds so it didnt affect the game at all. Best day for a Washington defender, my a##

I think the DE playing against our woeful tackles had the best game of the season for a Skins defender. Didn't he have 4 sacks?

Yeah that would be Phillip Daniels, and i think he had maybe 1 or 2 forced fumbles...i dont feel like looking it up.

Yes he had 4 sacks again Tucker who is no longer on the team, he will be going again Adams this year who he has never had a sack against.
Also he did not have any forced fumbles

I agree0. Its rare to find a difference maker on the open market, especially one who fits your scheme like a glove. He's an emotional leader on the field, and gets his teammates fired up and playing to a higher level. We allocated more resources on that position than we would have if we signed LA with Boiman and a first round draft pick (and the salary that goes along with it), and I don't think we'll get as much production from it. I think we'll regret this one. I hope Bobby Carpenter turns out to be more than just a "solid player".

I love the tone of this reply.... Sour Grapes is what they call it!!! Most Skins fans put Lavar down just like most Boys fans put LA down!!! they make things so easy and effortless people think thay can be replaced or their productivity will not be missed!!!
Lavar will have 10 sax this year!!!
Funny how the skins dismiss the the loss of Arrington so quickly. Point is, when the skins were playing their best D, Arrington was a big part of it.

Our defense played well all season, with the exception of the first giants game. What are you talking about, were you referring to lavar's 0 sacks as an indication of him being a big part?

Did you not read what what i typed. I said i was worried lavar would play his best against us. I know lavar can be a playmaker, especially now that he will be playing with a chip on his shoulder. I never said it would be easy to replace lavar.

Didn't we just read a week or so ago that he was having trouble with his Achilles tendon?

I read the same thing - he was sitting out due to an inflamed achilles. And don't forget about his bad knee(s).
I'm personally glad we passed on him.

I agree.. I mean I don't think that anyone has ever thought that Lavar lacked intensity. I've also heard the achilles thing.. either way.. I think any evaluation of any player is a little premature before training camp has even started. Everyone is all-world right now.

The trouble with Arrington is . . . the Postons come with him.

I was a bit iffy on Arrington's knee issues. I do know this, he almost always played his best games against Dallas each year. And for all of the talk of him "freelancing too much" in Gregg Williams' system, he was worlds better than Warrick Holdman last year and their defense greatly improved once he became the starter. I'm a bit worried about him and Strahan coming off the same edge together with Umenyiora from the other side. The one good thing we've got going for us is the 2 TE set could force Arrington into coverage more and if we stay healthy, our receivers could throw their secondary fits. Plus, I'm still not sold on Eli being able to hit the broad side of a barn just yet.

being solid is what holds Lavar back though, missing assignments etc. DeMarcus is our Lavar, glad we didn't pony up the money for him

You can find "solid players" on the free agent market, like Al Singleton. I hope we didn't spend the 18th pick in the draft on a glorified Al Singleton. I see no rule in the league where you can't have two difference makers on both outside LB positions. The only thing that held LA back was being hammered as a square peg into a round hole.

I dont' think Parcells feels that Carpenter will be just "solid"
I'll go w/ Parcells on this one:
pass on Lavar, draft Carpenter

somewhere on extreme we had a thread comparing the team stats when he was out vs in and we were better when he was out.......they even posted a picture.....he got fat.....
he's prolly better NOW but what if he gets banged up "proving himself"......then the skins will look like geniuses......

Thats simply not true and extremeskins has no interest in truth. They are about as reliable as profootballtalk.
Instead of finding magical stats just go look at Arrington's game logs and you'll see when he played a lot of downs and it was against the bigger opponents, namely in the playoffs.
You're brethran can pretend ignorance but his 9 tackles, 1 int, 1 forced fumble game against Tampa(where you won your fiest playoff game in a long whole by 7 points) was probably the best performance of the year by a Redskin defender. It was certainly not a good day by a DE in a win by 20 plus points that didn't include any turnovers.
In th end he was released because of money and openly challenging Snyder.
He does have health concerns which is why I noted it helped him to have almost all last year to rest his knee. And yes he does have the scumbag duo as his agents. I am not nominating him for sainthood but I did lobby for his signing because he is a game changing player and catalytic player. In the end we dont speak to the Postons so all we can do is try to block him or run him off in coverage two games this year. I am certainly glad whatever usual anger he plays us with will be lessened by his hatred for all things Snyder.

Isin't it funny how guys tried to re-structure their contracts the day after playing us. Tucker should be mowing grass somwhere or a security guard at Target.(sheesh...) Our line has to be better than last year. It couldn't be any worse. Arrington freelances way to much to be the difference maker that he could be if he only showed atouch of discipline. Physically, he's just as gifted as Ray Lewis or Derrick Brooks, but I'd take either of them over him any day.

No I would give that award to Daniels, with his 4 sack and a fumble recovery against the 'boys!
