JJT:
My book comes out August 1. The DMN will run excerpts in the next two weeks or so.
I had a god visit with Keith Davis yesterday. He's in suprisingly good shape for a guy who had a bullet graze his head and one still in his thigh.
He said he was driving home from Shreveport after a couple of days with his family and someone pulled up beside him and shot.
My first thought is that nobody just pulls up and shoots at someone, but then again all of the bullet holes are in the back seat area. He said police told him it isn't an everyday thing, but it does happen more than you think. He has a pimped out vehicle and was driving "gangsta-lean" The bullet ricocheted off the back seat and hit him in the head and basically left a bruise. Had he been driving upright this might be a different story.
Davis said they are going to wait a few days to take out the bullet and make sure his body has adjusted to the trauma. You can actually see the bullet protruding through the skin in his thigh.
If he has nine lives, he's probably used up 4 or 5 at this point.
I don't think Dallas will release him this time. He is alot more valuable now than he was and they don't know what they have in Coleman and Watkins yet.
This time seems to be an "innocent bystander" situation. He was innocent last time, but if you are in a strip club parking lot you are asking for trouble. It doesn't have to be your fault. This time looks totally random.
He drives a red Impala with 22" wheels and a candy-apple red paint. The police said it was a fine vehicle. Those types certainly invite the bad types to take a look.
He is expecting to be released today.
Dallas might keep an eye out for another safety. Coleman's alcohol problems are well documented, he has a one year deal and he gets no bonus if he doesn't make the roster.

How close is it till your book publication date.

It drops on August 1st. You can check it out on Jacquetaylor.com. DMN is running excerps. Its 24 players and 1 coach talking about the greatest games they ever played. They’re not all great players, but just players talking about their best games. There is a chapter on Paul Palmer who ran for 100 yards against the Redskins in 1989 in their only win of the year.

Tell us about your visit with Keith.

It was good. I saw him for about 20 minutes in his room and we talked about the gunshot and the whole deal. He’s in surprisingly good shape for someone who was shot in the head and still has a bullet in his thigh. He’s still got the indentation where its kind of poking out of skin and didn’t go all the way through. He said he was driving home from Shreveport after having some fun with hs family down there, and he said someone drove up beside him and shot his car up.

You hate to say it, but you have to question if he’s totally innocent when you hear something about this.

My first reaction was nobody just drives up besides you and starts firing you for no reason. It has to be some sort of road rage or you flipped somebody off or something. But all the gunshots were in the back passenger door. The authorities told me that it does’t happen often, but sometimes people will see a nice pimped out car and just shoot it up to show you that you’re not as good as you think you are.

When does he think he’ll be recovered?

He’s convinced he’ll be back in 2-3 weeks, but I told him I’m going to see him on that exercise bike all summer long.

Are they going to take the bullet out of the thigh?

They want to wait until his body is properly healed from the trama before they do any more envasive surgery.

So a bullet grazed his head?

He said he was driving with a “gangsta lean”, slouched back and resting on the console. He said it helped him survive, because the way he was leaning it just kind of went into the skin and didn’t even hit the skull. It just kind of grazed through, and all he got was a bone bruise on the skull. Otherwise this might be a different situation. You know, when you get shot 4 times in 3 years, that’s averaging more than a bullet per year. He’s very lucky to be here and thinking about things like football.

The last time wasn’t he totally innocent? He was picking up a firend at a strip club.

I don’t know, but if he’s got 9 lives he’s already used up 6 of them.

The first time it happened he was released by the club. Think it will happen here?

I don’t thik he’ll be released. Back then he was a bit player with no real roll. Now he’s the starting free safety. The other thing is they don’t know what they have with Marcus Coleman or Pat Watkins. I think this is also a little bit different because last time he may have been “innocent”, but he was still in a strip club parking lot late at night. Good things don’t usually happening there. As I tell my daughter, the later you are out after 1 o’clock, the greater your possibility of something bad happening. You don’t even have to do anything wrong, people are just out drunk, high & angry.

Didn’t Ricky Booker from SAI work on his car?

Actually, he didn’t work on this one. But its a rare Impalla with a glitter red candy apple paint job. By all accounts, even from the police, its one fine automobile.

When will he be released.

Today. He could have been released yesterday, but they want to take extra precaution with head injuries that put people in ICU.

Does this mean the Cowboys might keep an eye out for another safety?

I think so. Marcus Coleman had documented issues with alcohol last year in Houston. He got one year for the minimum. He just got a $40k bonus. So they aren’t banking that he can play, they’re just hoping something pans out. So I imagine they’ll be on the lookout.

So, aside from RW, we've got a safety crew that consists of Bullet Magnet, Drunk as a Skunk, Too Tall, and No Knee.

Brilliant.

I just wonder... Let's say the story, when the truth comes out, is that the shooters were someone Keith ran into at a club a couple of weeks ago. They recognized him, he ran his mouth -- as even Parcells has said he does -- and the bad guys recognized his car Sunday morning and shot at him. Is he totally innocent? At what point do you decide that a guy attracts too much trouble, even if he isn't doing anything illegal? Even JJT was saying that the odds of bad things happening go way up the longer you stay out after 1:00 am. Keith doesn't strike me as a guy who's ever going to realize that he's a relatively wealthy NFL player who might need to lay low in order to minimize his chances of running into bad characters.

Your statement seemed to imply that you were hoping to get a law-abiding safety from Cincinnati. I can only guess you suggested Cincy on account of their recent history with troublemakers, maybe they would take a troublemaker off our hands. So, if Davis broke no law, why make the joke, or suggestion? Maybe this just flew over my head.....

So the "gangsta-lean" saved his life? Now thats irony. The "Gansta" car got him shot, but the "Ganta Lean" saved him.

How about the law of "There's never been any evidence he did anything to warrant getting shot the first time", or the law of "the Police are saying this was probably just a random act".

I can't believe someone would actually do this! What kind of a bottom-feeding, low-class thug does it take to do something like this?

theres your problem, see this is down here in good ol texas.

(please dont take offense texans as i dont mean everyone)

And down, here we have a big problem with people acting like there better than us, and we take huge offenses off that and do many things.

Here is a list of things you cannot do in Houston or Dallas or risk bodly injury

Look at someone wrong

bump into someone

Pull in front of someone

Turn without a signal or prior warning

Drive slow on any interstate or highway

Talk back to someone

Make someone feel inferior to you

Talk about someone's mama

Accuse someone of interacting with drugs in front of thiere family(if tere family is a christian one)

there's more but eh i got tired of typing

Yes of course, the people who have sense in this state dont but, i've seen way to many who dont have sense do those things,
