TO isn't a "Speed" reciever. He's got some speed, but that's not his biggest strength.
TO wouldn't even finish 5th on the team in a 40 yard dash.

Newman, Thompson, Aaron Glenn, TO have all posted sub 4.3 times.
Newman is the fastest on paper.
Terry Glenn might be the hardest to run with because of his quickness.
TO is the hardest to deal with overall because he moves so well with real power. He can toss you then run his 4.3 while you are trying to get your balance back. There are plenty of internet articles about his raw speed.
Tyson Thompson might be a bit too fast as a RB. He can flat burn but he doesn't always see the hole and explode. He explodes then runs into the holes. Thats why he is really only useful on sweeps right now. His feet are faster than his eyes.
Aaron Glenn is obviously not at his fastest this late in his career but as a younger player he was extremely fast and covered the other team's fastest WRs one on one with ease. He is clearly not as fast nowadays as Santana Moss.
All 4 of those guys were track stars. Thompson was the fastest kid in Texas, Newman in Kansas.

Speed does matter. Players respect it. They do race each other quite often.
Randel Williams problem is that he is simply not a football player.
He was a track kid from NYC.
Had he been raised in Texas he's be a Pro Bowler right now:)~

What did Williams' distinction get him?
A job on special teams.
I don't care how many teammates you beat in a sprint.
Good players make plays. They run the correct routes. They make the right decisions. Anyone with a pair of cleats can run fast. The key is finding those that can do both. And most of the time, those that own the speed records are deficient in many other parts of their game.
I guess this distinction means something in terms of locker room bragging rights, but in the general scheme of things, it is relatively useless.

There are good football players and bad football players. Some of the good ones have speed and some of the bad ones have speed.
I'll take a good football player over a bad football player any day.
I'll take a good football player, without speed over a bad football player with speed, any day.
However, I'll take a good football player with speed over a good football player without speed, any day.
Speed certainly isn't everything... but it can make a huge difference. Speed can make a good football player great.
Speed is the only reason JJ is starting over Barber at RB. I think Barber is a better RB... but Dallas wants that break-away ability that Jones has. Everyone says Barber is good but Jones has a chance to be special. However, Barber has better vision, I think... and more power, is tougher, can catch better... but Jones has speed. And so, he's the one we want to win the job.
Speed isn't everything... but it matters.

So if someone is the "fastest Cowboy" that doesn't tell me a single thing that's relevant other than the fact they can run quite fast.
They could be Alexander Wright or Randal Williams for all I know. And neither of those two players did a single solitary thing in terms of helping this franchise win football games.

Why are you posting in the thread if its so useless?
Its just a question of who is the fastest player on the team... no one has said anything about how that relates to FOOTBALL ability.
This is NOT the case for anyone that's been listed in this thread. TO and Newman being the main discussion... both of them are FAST and outstanding PLAYERS.
Are you sure you want to say MOST?
You've got 1 example of Randall Williams. There's a LONG list of speedsters that were GREAT football players. Bob Hayes, Darrell Green, Deion Sanders, TERRENCE NEWMAN, BO JACKSON................

I beg to differ... :laugh1:
D.Akers kicks onside 7 yards from PHI 30 to PHI 37. RANDALL WILLIAMS for 37 yards, TOUCHDOWN. Recovered the ball left side of the field. The last time a kickoff was returned for 37 or fewer yards for a touchdown was Dec. 19, 1999 when Henry Jones of Buffalo recorded a 37-yard touchdown return.
Cowboys won that game 23-21 in 2003 after Williams ran the opening kickoff in for a TD. I'd say that's helping the team. :lmao2:

Alexander if you could have two players with similar skills but one is markedly faster than the other which do you take?
40 times are somewhat silly but true football speed is rarely overrated EXCEPT where the player involved is only loosely fitting of the title football player.
Is Randy Moss a great WR? Would he be if he ran a 4.68 40?
Would Deion be any good if he ran a 4.6?
Every NFL team works hard to build their players speed because it is part of the overall skillset that makes them successful.
I ran a 4.65. If I ran a 4.45 I am fairly certain I would have at least made an NFL camp if not a team.

That isn't what my point is.
Just because a player is the fastest player on the team isn't an indicator that he can actually play.
It is just this type of thinking that leads people to believe that an impressive 40 time means everything.
It has it's part. And as I said before, if the mental part doesn't accompany the speed, it is completely useless.

No, wannabe Ranch something or other.
Let's be honest a second here.
What football is there to talk about? Nothing happened today. Keith Davis has been done to death. We're sick of Greg Ellis, TO, and the Redskins otherworldly receiving corps. We're sick of Taylor vs. Roy debates. We all REALLY want some REAL football.
I see no reason to ***** because some completely subjective thread got jacked at 12:30 in the morning.

When the heck is this site going to start dealing with football. I for one am getting sick of everything turning off topic. Some people may amuse themselves but they are easily amused.
I'm serious. This site used to be about football but anymore it's gotten to the point where a bunch of Ranch reject wannabe comedians seem to get away with whatever they want.
Quality topic ruined by tools. Of course when mods don't follow the rules why should anyone else.
Another case of a great site ruined by a few people who have nothing better to do than post thousands of times and bring the intellect down.
Until you came along, not one person on this thread had called anyone any derogatory names. No hard feelings amongst any of us. Just a little kidding around.
You come in and call everyone "Tools" and that's OK? That's mature?
To me, it is by far the worst thing in this thread. Nice attack. Nice way to attack the mods.

When a board mods decide that breast size of this movie star or that movie star is something that is appropriate as one of the most prominent topics on this board then yes, it is time for me to go.
I stop by this site looking for Cowboys' news. I come home from a golf tournament today trying to read every possible bit of info on the first day. I waste my time reading this crud. Not worth it any longer for me to wade through the drivel and I've got over 300 people on "ignore".
99% of the people here would kill to have half the contacts in professional sports that I do (how many other posters have treated a current Cowboy player to dinner) yet everything I post is pushed back by a few people with way to high an opinion of themselves.
This board is at a crossroads. Do they go with high traffic/low IQ or do they push for a middle ground. Reality needs to make that call but he needs to realize that a lot of high traffic boards have come and gone but quality boards hang for years.

Look Stanley, I've been looking for stuff from the first day, myself. But you know what? There is simply very little to read. Not much of anything besides the opening press conference happened today. I love Cowboy related stuff as much as anyone... that's why I come here, but there's not much out today.
Seriously, I open threads all the time that I don't want to read... I simply click back and find another thread. I don't belittle the posters for having the audacity to write something that I don't want to read. I just wouldn't do it. It's too easy to find another thread.
I know the posters in this thread. I guarantee you that if there were any real Cowboy news to be talking about... that's what they would be doing. Just right now, it's late and not much is going on. Clearly, many in this thread have a similar sense of humor and are just having a little fun. I don't think any rules were broken, except you calling other's names. Harmless fun. One thread on a board full of Cowboy news. Frankly, you just come across as a little bit of a board bully, not wanting anyone to talk about anything that you don't want them to. I don't see how you can think that's right or fair.
Look back through my roughly 2,500 posts and you'll see that 99% of them are about football. I very rarely get off topic. I did tonight, but I don't see what all the fuss is about.
If the mods, are doing it, as you say... then it probably is okay and only bothers those with amazingly thin skin.
You might be surprised and Reality might have a sense of humor. You might not want to speak for other's on this or any forum.
Just my two cents.

Romo was busy all day.

I really was trying to be objective here, but I did a search of the last few posts of Stanley's and I didn't see much in terms of information from his myriad of contacts that could have been drowned out by talk of super heroine breasts.
Edit: I have to add that I have always enjoyed Mr. Spadowski's posts. They were usually very solid and very on topic. I would hate to see him "nathan" himself.
I don't know he had some solid work in the thread about baseball news, but wait THAT wasnt about Cowboys news either
Or my personal favorite his posts about lesbians in the "Batwoman returns... as a Lipstick Lesbian..." thread was obviously a prelude from his contacts in the lesbian community

golf so late at night?
Let me tell you a little story. I once knew a guy who could have been a great golfer, could have gone pro, all he needed was a little time and practice. Decided to go to college instead. Went for four years, did pretty well. At the end of his four years, his last semester he was kicked out... You know what for? He was night putting, just putting at night.

by the way, does anyone else think that it is odd that he has so many contacts, yet he comes here looking for his Cowboys news? Why doesn't he just call up his buddies Roy and Drew?
and if he has all of us on ignore now like he is implying, how did he keep reading our posts?
but most importantly, why in the world was he playing golf so late at night?
Greens fees cheaper after midnight?

Just my two cents.
on a serious note, I agree with what Asthma says here 100%..

"Who is the fastest Cowboy" is a quality topic?
You don't have to post in the thread if it's so worthless, ya know... ;)
It's like who can lift the most. Maybe it doesn't matter, really (like any of our MB talk does), but it doesn't hurt anything. Not everything has to be about who's the best pure football player.
Hey, at least it's not another Romo/Henson, TO is God/Satan thread. :)

It's no offense to the OP, or to anyone who posted seriously in the thread.
We just wonder why someone CRAVING Cowboys news is so mad about a thread that has absolutely zero news in it getting hijacked.

I think we should all apologize to Stanley. Maybe if we ask nicely and politely enough, he will change his mind. Stanley, we're sorry, man. Please reconsider this hasty and costly decision.
You have clearly been horribly mistreated by all this negligent exposure to inane talk about breasts. Hey, what a bunch of crud you had to read. We all sincerely wish we could give you the precious time back that you wasted sifting through all this offtopic verbal diarrhea. Let's stop the insanity for just a minute here folks. This is Stanley Spadowski, one of the most influential characters in Dallas Cowboys history.
All of you lesser-minded miscreants who don't play golf and eat dinner with Emmitt Smith need to go find your own board.
Stanley we love you. Please come back.
