I like Floyd, The Beatles, The Who and all the other usual suspects (except Springsteen, Van Morrison and Elvis- can't really get into these three, although I certainly respect them.)

I have recently gotten into:

Scott Walker- scary stuff

The White Stripes- the last two albums have been awesome

Spoon- very underrated band from Austin

Stevie Wonder- I feel great shame that is has taken me this long

Brian Eno- Always knew him as a producer, but his own stuff is great too

Mostly, I can't stand Sinatra and the whole "schtick"

Maybe this will help you out...

The biggest show in town is Huckleberry Hound
For all you guys and gals.
The biggest clown in town is Huckleberry Hound
With all his cartoon pals.

It's Huckleberry fun, it's for everyone,
So come on, gather 'round.
Get yourself all set,
Turn on your TV set
For Huckleberry Hound.

That oh, so merry, Chuckleberry,
Huckleberry Hound.

I've been on a big kick with movie soundtracks lately. John Williams is obviously a favorite, but I like James Newton Howard Brian Tyler a lot too.

A lot of my stuff revolves around orchestral/choral, because I picked that up in middle school. Thus the soundtracks. Even in my popular music choices, I tend to prefer very well produced, clean sounding stuff.

I like all types of music aside from Rap, hip-hop, and new country.

If I had to pick one band that was my all-time favorite, I guess I'd go with Metallica. To me, every one of their songs is kickarse!

Then I also really dig Kool & the Gang...and lots of 70's R&B.

Country music from the 70's is also generally pretty good. Johnny Cash is the MAN

Plus I like the Carpenters, and Abba, and a whole lot of stuff like that. The captain and Tenille.

Nat King Cole's greatest hits is in my music library. So is ELO's greatest hits, and the best of The Beach Boys...etc...

I was never really a fan of the Beattles, but I recognize their greatness and their contribution to rock and roll and music in general.

Here's a question for all.....What CD is in your vehicles CD player right now?

Mine is "Sepultura Live...Disc 1."

I used to until i moved up here to Philly. I was a true Tickethead back in Dallas, but the sports talk in this town is HORRIBLE. And besides, what do I care who the 3rd stater for the Phillies is gonna be? I miss the Ticket somethin fierce.

I even bought a new Alpine stereo for my truck. I had an old Sony piece of junk with only 2 door speakers. But I didn't care cos I listened to talk radio all the time. So I went and invested $500 on a new system. I wouldn't say it "jams." But it rocks enough for my old bones.

Nothing will ever replace the local stations :( but there are enough sports and politics (if that's your thing) themed stations to keep me going on satellite radio. I feel your pain. Relying on local talk radio is terrible when you're out of state.

In my car, I've been doing heavy R & B lately, so some of you may not recognize the artists. Donnell Jones, Avant, Anthony Hamilton. I'm flipping between them and the new Busta Rhymes.

A friend is supposed to be loaning me Nickleback. So I'm waiting to pop that in this week.

At work, my playlist is a wide range of stuff. It's whatever I feel at the moment. From Lil Jon to Gospel to Shania Twain... Got some old 80s pop loaded as well as some 80s hip-hop. A co-worker was teasing me, cuz I had "Total eclipse of my heart" playing...and then I back doored it w/the theme song from Dirty Dancing.

I'm not picky. Just go w/what I feel.

Come on Feel the Illinoise is an amazing thing. He just released a new one, 'The Avalanche', which is the outtake and scrapped material from the Illinoise album. It isn't bad - I mean, you can tell why some didn't make the album. But it has 4 different versions of 'Chicago' on it, which is the hotness.

All kinds of music.

Sometimes i want something fired up and in your face like AC/DC. i also like "hippie" music like the gratefrul dead when i'm in a happy mood or want to relax.

I really like music that is hypnotic and repetetive, anything that is somewhat trancelike. pink floyd is a good example, how the baseline or keyboards in the backround stimulates your subconscious. But techno is good for that too, you can tap into and raise a lot of energy from music like that. Lately i am really liking Tool, that music is perfect for a shaman type dance/experience.

If i go to a club and im feeling good, and the right type of music is playing....i just need 1 patner in crime to follow my lead and i can get the whole place riled up and get people doing things they would normally be too selfconscious to do, yes i get people around me fired up and then at the right moment start pushing their limits and yelling for them to show me more, to let everything out. then step back once the whole place is in a frenzy and admire my creation, its an incredible feeling!!!!

i also like what i term "dark" songs, some metallica songs fall into this category, music that touches your soul at its core, usually it doesnt have a hard driving beat, something more mellowed out, think alice in chains. that kind of music makes me feel like all the power in the universe is flowing throughout my being.

And he jaheim really lost me w/his performance at the Essence Festival. Horrible. His show was just bad. Sound was bad. His songs were wack. The only thing that sounded decent was his cover tribute of Luther's House is Not a Home.

He looked like Money Mike from Friday After Next. Had the nerve to go w/o his cornrows. Pulled his hair back into a pony tail and before he completed the first song, he'd pulled it out. It was not cute.

He spent his whole set trying to undress for the ladies and do the sexy stuff. He was about 2 songs from the end when he finally was able to pull off his short and roll w/the wife-beater.

Needless to say, I am not a fan of jaheim.

Baroque>Classical

...listen to Baroque music for any period of time considering instruments were still in their developing infancy. I have difficulty listening to harpsichord for an extended period of time.

As for Mozart, it's hard to consider him over rated when many contemporaries are still stunned by the length and breadth of his works and the conditions which many of them were developed.

His true talent lies in how he was able to envision the interplay of so many instruments in his works. Combine that with the accounts of how he would put his pieces to paper and you get the feeling that there has never been another.

As you may be able to tell by my post that classical is where my interest lies. Followed closely by jazz. I still enjoy contemporary music, but as the years go by I lose my taste for it.

cbz, aren't you a music teacher? What instrument(s) do you play?

My favorite stuff:

Van Halen (the older, the better)
Santana (pretty much all of it ... favorite album is Inner Secrets)
Buddy Holly (I never get tired of this)
ELO (late 1970s stuff)
Sam Cooke
John Mayer (really liked his first album)
Rush (Great lyrics and extremely talented musicians).
The Guess Who (an underrated band)
Paul McCartney. I actually like the "Wings" stuff from the 1970s.
Herb Alpert (My parents got me hooked on this when I was just a sprout .. love the trumpet).
Some country, especially slow ballads. George Strait has a lot of good songs.
And I really enjoy movie soundtracks (especially Western genre) and instrumentals.

"Which one of these is not like the others...which one of these doesn't belong?" :D

That's funny right there, I don't care who you are, that's funny.

My wife watches MTV a good deal and it drives me buggy.

About the only time I watch music videos is when they have metal mania on VH1.

Guess that is my age showing.:laugh2:

Also, some current rock like Garbage, 3 Doors Down, Linkin Park, Staind, Bowling for Soup, Simple Plan, Sum 41, Lifehouse, etc.

I don't know, I have a hard time picturing Jerry Jones listening to most of that :p:

Right now I've got an edited version of the Lord of the Rings soundtrack in my CD player. I'm really into movie soundtracks, Trans Siberian Orchestra, (beethoven's last night is truly awesome) and alot of Christian music. Truth be told, if it has any resemblance of chord progressions in it I'll like it. I just don't have the time to be seeking a bunch of music out.

I have always liked the soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian which was done by
Basil Poledouris.

I also liked the music in the movie The Last Samurai music by Hans Zimmer.
