Eagles WR Brown injures hamstring

NFL.com wire reports
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (July 29, 2006) -- Reggie Brown (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/407234), expected to battle for the Eagles (http://www.nfl.com/teams/news/PHI)' No. 1 receiver position this year, injured his hamstring in practice.

Brown limped off the field after running one pass route during training camp at Lehigh University. He spent several minutes stretching and working with a trainer before walking slowly under his own power toward the locker room.

The team would not comment on the injury. Drafted 35th overall in 2005, Brown set a franchise record last season for most receptions by a rookie wide receiver with 43.

Despite starting only the final nine games of the season, he led all NFL rookies with 571 receiving yards and ranked third with four touchdown receptions. He was expected to have a major role this season following the offseason departure of Terrell Owens (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1290).

Other than Brown and veteran Todd Pinkston (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187621), the Eagles' receivers remain largely unheralded. Veterans Greg Lewis (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396845), Jabar Gaffney (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/306271) and Darnerien McCants (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235116) are trying to make big impressions at camp, along with rookies Hank Baskett (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1109788), Jason Avant and Jeremy Bloom.

Pinkston is coming off a torn Achilles' that forced him to miss all of 2005. Lewis and Gaffney have nine career touchdowns between them, and McCants has caught a total of 10 passes over the past two seasons.

After Brown left the field, Baskett caught several passes from quarterback Donovan McNabb (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/133361), who seems to be gaining confidence in the undrafted rookie.
Tight end L.J. Smith, also expected to be one of McNabb's main targets, missed his third consecutive practice with a sprained shoulder, while Bloom and Avant remain day-to-day with minor injuries.

Notes

Defensive end Jevon Kearse (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/133332) missed the morning practice with inflammation in his right knee and his return is listed as day-to-day.
Other injured players include RB Ryan Moats (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/417032) (knee sprain), LB Matt McCoy (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/552575) (quad spasms) and DT Darwin Walker (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187671) (quad contusion).
Center Jamaal Jackson (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396829), who signed a seven-year contract extension July 20, has been working with the first-team offense, while former starter Hank Fraley (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/192378) has been practicing mainly with the second team.

Never good to hear about injuries... unless its an egirl !!!

:laugh2:

BTW- Just heard on the local philly sportradio that the egirls have advised Lehigh University (their TC location for the past 15-20 years) that hey now need to front the money for the next 5 years lease or they'll leave.
Their owner, Laurie, has never worked a day in his life. Looks like he has again blown the last of Mommies money, and has to hold a University up to make ends meet.

Not to pile on but...what the hell.
I also heard that the Eagles have still not signed Broderick Bunkley yet.
Right now he has missed 16 practices.
The Eagles are cheap with the money...always have been and always will be.

I think our injuries are worse so far. They don't have anyone gone for the season. Lets keep an eye on our own teams health. On another note. It looks like the Deadskins and Giants are perfectly healthy.

Wow, we have what our fourth string T gone for the seaosn so we have worse injuries?

Their second tier RB who was suppose to be a part of the RB rotation is hurt, there losing WR left and right, and we have worse injuries?

come on now

All those guys are gonna be back. We have someone who was good depth and a good special teams player go down for the season. Plus Spears is out a few weeks. I don't see tweaked hamstrings as being a big deal. Teams try to be careful in TC. If this was the regular season, they would probably all play.

Brown will be fine; this is just regular camp news IMO.

a fourth string TE that was in a fight to make the team, is not anything to be worried about. Spears missed time last year and was jsut fine. ACcording ot PArcells he should make it in time for Pre-season.

Im still trying to figure out how are injuries are so much worse than theirs

Not really. Last year at this time we had already lost Pinkston, McDougle, and Buckhalter FOR THE YEAR.

So far, we haven't lost anyone for the year.

Brown is already back in the 1st group in practice. Avant just started practicing again. All of the injuries so far are day to day type injuries.

It may seem like injuries are coming sooner for the Eagles - but you have to remember that the Eagles started practice alot sooner than other teams. As other teams practice, you'll see the same type of injuries from them.

All in all, we're doing fine. Thanks for the concern.
