There was a blurb from a DMN article about his agent calling the Cowboys. So it's possible he's coming in for a look-see.

did they he was comin monday? No. Just that his agent had called.
I'm going thru DMN's C-plus to see if there's anything new on it. It's alot of articles in there right now, so if there's anything to it, it's buried.

Raiders released T Lincoln Kennedy.
The 35-year-old has been in talks with the Cowboys and is scheduled for a tryout on Monday. Kennedy has been out of football for two years.
Released just a few hours ago. Cowboys have scheduled a tryout for him tomorrow morning. All this attention on the OL during training camp, first with Meadows and now with this guy, has me worried. BP must not be confident in the depth we have.

Its early, but if you read that the right way it says 35 year old has been.........wish he could play center at least we wouldn't be getting pushed back like Al Johnson all the time...

you could also read it as depth for an OL that does not have much......

Man, this could be a long year already. The Oline sucks so bad we are dredging up 35 yo guys to replace 25 YO's. Our center is still a turnstile it seems. I told everyone screw el dorado, we need O line. All I heard was 'we got el dorado, we win the superbowl'. Lets see el dorado block Osi or Freeny then. Arnt we still like 10 million under the cap? Oh yeah, thats right, there are no more Bentleys sitting on the shelves this late in the season. Oh well, we got el dorado alright! Personally I think it would have been more splashy to read about us winning our 6th SB next February then reading about signing el dorado last march. Is Jone's splash meter broken again or something? :lmao2:

:banghead: Just because we take a look at Kennedy doesn't mean the OL sucks. Parcells has said himself that he leaves no stone unturned.
This is the approach that got us Columbo who supposedly is looking good so far.

Talk about overreaction. Step in off the ledge and repeat this slowly to yourself until it sinks in "Kennedy called us- we didn't call him". We haven't even yet indicated we'd give him a tryout, never mind a roster spot. Gheesh!

I agree with you that people should wait for developments before reacting strongly but it's also strange that Kennedy would call in the first place. Maybe he's heard something from inside the organization? I doubt he just decided to come back & pulled Dallas' name randomly out of hat.

It's hardly random. The man was working as an analyst last year. He knows about our problems at tackle and I'm sure he heard we were looking at Meadows. And who's to say he only called us?

It's entirely possible that he shopped himself around but there are no reports to that as of yet. I would've thought that there would've been a few teams intrested in him & that fans would've heard some "rumor" stories.

all I know is adding him would not mean or O-Line is bad and it also wouldnt be a bad idea to add him.

I think if I were looking for a job in the NFL, I would sell myself this way instead of saying "I am out of work as an analyst and I really need money."

We need to relax on the online just yet....they will take the longest to jel as a unit...that's just how it goes.
We all know we are not going to have a top oline, so let's get past that point already, however we should be solid AFTER they have tome to work together.
At this point if I have concerns, which I do, it's OG...not OT.
Both Rivera and Kosier will be solid...not great, that's what we have. Let's hope once the scheme gets in place they will gel and work.

all we're gonna get this time of the year are rejects and cuts. prime pickings are long gone and our *best* move so far was kosier.
if a 35 (thought he was only 33) can come out and have a legit shot at making this roster, we *do* have some very valid problems on the OL that just being optimistic about it won't cure.

There are some 35 year old linemen that make the Pro Bowl on actual performance not reputation. Willie Roaf was still a top guy at 36. If you just want a guy for a year or so then that is not a bad way to go.

I don't know that Kennedy is a guy I would spend money on. He's not a Tackle, he's a Guard. He's no longer very mobile so he's basically not going to be a guy who will be able to pull and trap a great deal. He is what he is. Maybe we look at him but I don't know that he would be what we need.

Kennedy's 33, so this is likely a bogus report. Haven't seen anything anywhere reliable that says he's coming in today.
In any event, he'd compete for the vet tackle spot that was supposed to be held by Fabini. I doubt anyone thinks this is a long-term solution. From reports, it doesn't appear that OT has really been a problem so far in camp, anyway. Other than Flozell being rusty.

Hell, who knows maybe he was a life long Cowboy fan and always wanted to wear the Silver and Blue. Could that be the reason he called? And yes he's 35. But he should be a fresh 35 not playing for the last two years. And possibly a hungry (no pun intended) football player. If Jerry does decided to take a look what would it hurt? Couldn't be any worse than signing three baseball players to play QB.

This guy really isn't a tackle any longer. Not 100% sure but he played a great deal of Guard for Oakland towards the end of his career there.

I think you may be confusing Kennedy with someone else. Frank Middleton maybe? Kennedy was their RT right throught 2003, made the Pro Bowl in 2002.

No, I'm not confusing him. I am surprised that he made the Pro Bowl at RT in 02 but hey, I've been wrong about players before. He played Guard for Oakland, I'm sure of that. In fact, he is listed as T/G on there roster. Doesn't really matter I suppose. I doubt he could be anything more then a Guard for us, at this point. Who knows?

yea, i'm one of the SIGN SOMEONE crowd to be sure, but not just for the sake of putting a name on the field. kennedy can't help us - don't even bother. look over the wires for those getting cut who will hit the teams practice squad, look over $ cuts later in camp as teams feel the young guy will outproduce OL's *UNDER* 30 but gone just the same. we can still address it, but just have more limited choices.

If this guy is being seriously considered (and I doubt he really is) then it really says what a sad state this OL is really in...he is old, weighs almost 400lbs and hasnt played in two years

this guy is not anyone's answer on the OL...and if he is signed here its a REALLY bad statement for our current OL
please dont give me the "quality depth" or "insurance" argument either, this guy is old, almost 400lbs and out of the league for the past two years...those are not the traits you look for unless you are in an incredibly desperate state...it also says they must not think very much of the Pettiti/Fabini/Columbo trio, since Kennedy if added can only play RT anyway

How does it translate that a player hurt in Berea, Ohio on one July day somehow equate that that very same player, under the circumstance of having chosen another path in life, would have been hurt 2 days later in Oxnard, California?

No one said we were. His agent called. What's the big deal about that??? Reading between the lines is always going to get you in trouble. BP said it himself, don't try and figure out what he is doing because you will be wrong.
I'm surprised at all the negative reactions to possibly signing some experienced OL depth,,, especially given the urgency to win now. This team is 1-2 injuries away from total disaster and even their STARTING guards are question marks!!
