Yahoo Sports?

In general, I couldn't care less for meaningless predictions.

I don't get upset if I see Dallas at 4th, 3rd, or excited to see Dallas at 2nd, 1st....

Again ...not my predictionCan someone explain why Philly was picked first by the Sporting News, but not by Mark Eckel--the same writer who wrote the Eagles preseason preview for the TSN (the link is on the SAME page!):

FALL FORECAST

Injuries and Owens were only two of the Eagles' problems last season. The team wasn't very good, especially on defense. Free-agent additions and the draft restored some much-needed depth, but the rest of the NFC East teams added blue-chip players and continue to get better.

When the Eagles dominated the NFC East, the other three teams weren't good. That's no longer the case, so it's difficult to envision the Eagles returning to the postseason in 2006.

Mark Eckel covers the Eagles for the Trenton (N.J.) Times and Sporting News.

Yes and it could be just as easy to predict anyone of the following for NFCE:

Dallas, Philly, Washington, Giants

Washington, Dallas, Giants, Philly

Giants, Dallas, Philly, Washinton

Flip a coin........

The winner of the division will be determined the last week of the season.

This division should be the toughest division in football this year. A case could be made for any of the teams to win the division. Being a Cowboys fan, I will pick the Cowboys to win the division.

I think the Eagles are going to have a tough time scoring points this year. I truly believe that McNabb is very overrated as a passer. Unless he runs the ball he is not going to be effective. His receiving corps may be the weakest link on the team. The Eagles should be a finesse running team, which will not work unless you can pass the ball to the recevers or the rb out of the backfield. It also makes it difficult to score in the red zone. The Eagles offensive success will be tied to how well the running back can be integrated into the passing game. They will probably be an "average" offensive team.

Defensively they will probably be "average" as well. The problem is the NFC East is going to be an "above average" division, talent wise and coaching wise. I say Philly is no better than 3rd in the division, and will probably be the cellar dweller unless one of the other 3 teams in the division implodes.

I see the Giants as a boom or bust team. They have pretty good talent. The unknown quanity is Eli Manning. I'm not sold that he has developed enough to win the division.

The Skins were better than I expected them to be last year, and on paper they have improved in the offseason. I don't think they have used Portis properly, yet.

I guess if I was predicting the division today, I'd pick it as follows:

1. Cowboys
2. Redskins
3. Giants
4. Philly

I could see #2 and #3 switching places pretty easy, but I think Dallas is currently the best team and Philly is the worst, barring injuries.

To clarify one of my prior points, McNabb is not horrible, but I believe he will underachieve this year, in part due to the fact he is overrated and partly due to his supporting cast.

Skip "village idiot" Bayless is subbing for Jim Rome this week. Yesterday on Rome's radio show he predicted the Iggles to win the East. He must enjoy making himself look bad.

Solid post.

I agree with it.

This division is too tough.

I don't see how any fan of any team in our division can look and say, "Yeah, we're gonna run away from this thing".

I also can't believe there are fans that look at one team and say, "Man, they are without a doubt going to be the worst team in the division".

Now, Philly may go 5-11.....but Dallas, NYG, and Washington all have the potential to go 5-11 as well.

Health will determine the winner of our division. Health ruined the Eagles and Cowboys runs last year, and derailed the Giants a little too.

Sorry for being a stickler, but Eli had developed enough to win the division last season. I don't think he's great, his accuracy is actually horrible. Some of his passes last season looked like punts (that INT in Seattle for example).

However, last season he managed his team well enough to take the division crown. But IMO, it's a different division this season. Everyone improved. Eli's going to have to raise his production to a whole new level for the Giants to repeat. If his accuracy doesn't go up, I think the Giants miss the playoffs.

the NFC east looks to be a dogfight.

That's basically all I'm trying to say ...believe all NFC-East teams will battle fiercely in 2006.

so an eagles fan picks "igs" to finish first?

...Exactly! Isn't that the least any fan would do for their fandom ...Duh!

Uncertain to whom you speak ...since you didn't have the nerve to come straight to me with your response. Let's see if I can't re-create the essence of your little statement ...

- How dare an Eagles fan think that his team could possibly win the NFC-East

- How stupid is it to predict high standings for the team you're loyal to

- Stupid prediction ...let me see if I can come up with something more stupid

- Let's look at your ...prediction (science fiction in nature)

95,000 yards equates to at least 9,500 touchdowns (100 yards per TD)
95,000 yards per season (16 games) is an average of 6,000 yards per game
95,000 yards per season does not necessarily denote a winning season (would it be too far-fetched to go out On a limb an say that an opponent team could beat you with ...95,001 yards?)

Here's the point ...I get your point, but I question your ability to call someone else a ...homer:rolleyes:

Prediction..Eagles are in the basement of the NFC EAST for the 2006 season. :lmao2::lmao2::eek::eek::lmao:

I think Philly is a non-factor in the division this year.
I just don't see where they're going to get any offense. They have one of, if not THE, worst WR corps in the league and they run an offense with almost no running plays. Westbrook is the primary threat and he won't last 12 games. LJ Smith is good but a TE can't really carry a team.
Mcnabb sure can't carry a team either. I think Mcnabb has another horrible year and philthy fans will be calling for his benching.
I think they are good on defense but overly arrogant. I think they still act like own the division and don't have to change anything and can just outman every NFC East team straight up. Times have changed and they got it handed to them last year, even on defense. I get the impression that they think it was due to their injuries when in fact its due to the fact that everyone else is better than them now and they haven't yet realized that.
I still think their D will be last or second to last in the division.
I think Philly gets beat up and picked on all year.
I'm not going to be so bold to say Dallas is definitely going to win the division because it will be a tough one but I really don't see how Philly will be all that competitive. Mcnabb will fail without TO this year.

eli didnt play a bunch of great pass D's last year. this year, as it stands now at least, the giants play against much better D's.

i can see how eli could struggle if he doesnt get more accurate.

Giants won last year with a pretty good defense and a healthy dose of Tiki Barber. Eli should not be given credit for the Giants' success last year. The Verdict is still out on Eli.

Personally, with the injuries, state of the team, ETC, I see the Giants as the weakest in the division. They could surprise, they have some firepower, but they will live and die with Eli's progress, Snee's knee, Tiki's legs, Shockey's 'brain', anything on Defense outside of the line. That's a lot of ifs. IF they all work, the Giants could be the class. But IF any of those DON'T work out, they could be screwed.

Dallas and Washington are close to even - great coaching, great talent, good team mentality. At this point, they are probably neck and neck. A lot of this is going to depend on the Dallas OL, QB and RB, while the Skins will depend on much the same thing.

Regarding Philly - this will be interesting. They look a lot like they did in 2003. No WRs, no healthy RB, etc. But they will again have a healthy McNabb. It will always shock me as to why fans on this board enjoy discrediting McNabb so much. Eagle or not, he gets nothing but respect from me. He's been a top 5 player in the division for 6 years or so, and could be working on a HOF career. As long as he, Jimmy Johnson and Andy Reid are involved with that team, they are dangerous. A lot of people point to last year - give me two years of that and I will call they reign officially over, but that defense sub-par performance is an exception over the last near-decade, NOT the rule. And that offensive line looks beastly.
