Ok, Are the Cowboys seriously looking at WR depth or is the tuna playing head games with the Wr's.
There is a couple of decent to good WRs on the market that could make a difference. I'd explore sending away, Al Singleton or maybe even Greg Ellis to the Raiders for Jerry Porter or to the Broncos for Ashlie Lelie. Either one of these would bring in youth and experience that the Cowboys have needed at Wr for some time. the WR corps could be awesome this year if they stay healthy.
WR depth: Glenn, Owen, Porter/Lelie Crayton.

We are not getting rid of Greg Ellis this year. I am not saying this in a rude manner but people need to get that idea out of their heads.
We are not looking for a #1 or #2 WR right now when we have Terry Glenn and Owens on the roster.
So Porter and Lelie are probably off the list.
If we trade for a player we will probably be trading some of our lower level to mid level extras that we have too many at in a specific position (ala LB) for another teams lower level to mid level players that another has an abundace of in a position. These players will have EXP/playing time in the NFL but will not be big name starters/stars.
Our higher level players for another teams higher level players (ellis for Porter)...I just don't see that happening.

Ellis has played his way to a starting LB spot by all reports...

exactly.. and I dont wanna get rid of Ellis.. I am excited about seeing him in this new role.. people are gonna be let down if they are expecting a big trade.. it's gonna be more along the lines of a Scott Shanle for Ronald Curry (who?? precisely) type of trade..

Exactly why would we sign another "big" name reciever without seeing how Hurd responds to full competion? I think we are more in line to find someone to push Green for a spot IMO.

That is the type of trade I am talking about...and one I would welcome, although I have no idea how he is on ST.
I think we need to keep that in mind when talking about possibly WRs we may trade for, do they have any EXP on STs.

What would be perfect is a Peerless Price-type who could take being inactive for weeks at a time as Coach Parcells does his weekly roster massage.
Bethel Johnson might be a good alternative from New Orleans and he would probably be acquired for one of our backup linebackers

I'm pretty sure Ashley Lelie wouldn't want to come to Dallas. He is upset that Denver brought in Javon Walker which effectively removes his chance to be the Bronco's #1 receiver. He was upset at the Broncos when they looked at TO in the offseason.
Quote Link (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp06/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2537002)
Lelie's future is unsettled. Lelie wants to be a No. 1 receiver and is convinced he'll never be one in Denver. He became upset with the Broncos' offseason interest in Terrell Owens and skipped offseason workouts, asking to be traded.

I agree Ellis has been nuthin but stellar with the cowboys, The cowboys seem to be heavy at the LB position, Singleton is not over the hill yet but looking to be a backup, Ellis wants to be traded, by all accounts he's got the LB positon figured out, but its only the 2nd week of TC and the cowboys are loaded with good LB's.
The Cowboys really do miss having a keyshawn Johnson around. One injury to TO or Glenn and the cowboys chances of a playoff / superbowl run will take a serious blow. Sam Hurd might be the man but a rookie in TC annointed as starter and cliaming him as the key to WR depth is a long shot
but with WR depth like Glenn, Crayton, Hurd (no TO) the running game will be non-existance (8man fronts) and Bledsoe will be setting duck
I like Ellis, but I do believe and for along time now the Cowboys have lacked depth at WR,

When Parcells sys he's going to have a couple teams look at our players while we look at theirs he's talking about guys we may end up cutting to trade for guys they may end up cutting, bottom of the roster guys in other words.

Take a look around the league. Not many teams could lose a front-line starting WR of the calibre of Glenn or Owens and make a Super Bowl run. If you have good veteran talent in third receiver roles, chances are they are egoless or you have a headache, as the Broncos and Raiders are experiencing right now.
We do need veteran depth. But it doesn't have to be top of the line, best your money can buy depth. That simply doesn't happen very often. We spent a million on Price as insurance and due to circumstances, he barely saw the field. I am not so certain we would do that again with players like Lelie or Porter, who would cost significantly more. That's why Keyshawn Johnson is not here. He wanted starter money. And who thinks he would be willing to sit on the bench?
Your best shot to having quality depth is to homegrow it or draft it. We will get a WR very high next year, I am almost certain of it.
I like Ellis, but I do believe and for along time now the Cowboys have lacked depth at WR,
Even if the guinea pig wasn't doing well, what could we get for him?
There just are not big name trade options at WR that would fit what we need.

i don't think we are looking for that type of wr. i don't see us intersted in any of these top guys. i think it's more about warm bodies for camp

NFL Rumors & Notes by Ben Maller 08/10/06... (3 'boys blurbs)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dallas could enter the mix for Broncos wide receiver Ashley Lelie, a holdout. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells told reporters Wednesday his team is interested in acquiring a receiver. Lelie is one of the top wideouts available. Chicago and Philadelphia have shown recent interest in Lelie, who has amassed $196,000 in fines for missing training camp.

Ok Folks. Let's review
In Fantasy Football you can have Glenn, Owens, and Lelie on the same team.
In real NFL Football one of them is going to be very very unhappy because he isn't going to get the ball.
Is this enough of a review?

Not to mention I doubt Jerry is going to have 3 highly paid WR. Dallas has already invested a lot of cash at this position.

WR depth: Glenn, Owen, Porter/Lelie Crayton.Just for the sake of argument let's say we are looking at WR.
Porter is unhappy in Oakland.
Lelie is unhappy in Denver.
Do you really think they'd leave #2 positions there, come to a #3 position here, and be giddy?

I think some folks assume that players want to be in Dallas so badly that all that stuff goes out the window. Sure. I'd love to be catching balls behind Owens, Glenn, and Witten while playing in an offense where the coach wants to run over 50% of the time.

I think BP indicated in his press conference that he was looking for more wide recievers so he wouldn't have to run the ones he has "into the ground". Injuries are more likely to occur when players are fatigued. I think he is looking for camp bodies, not disgruntled would-be starters.

That is a blurb from the Denver Post.
Try and click on the blue link and read the article. What you see here is exactly what is written in the article. No other information other than the writer guessing. It is this type of shoddy journalism that allows bad rumors to get legs.
"According to a Denver Post report, the Dallas Cowboys are looking seriously at disgruntled Bronco WR Ashley Lelie. Calls to Dallas were not returned. Stay tuned for more developments."

Glenn is old for WR (still not costing to much$) But can still getter done
TO is still TO, whats the chances of him being here Next year or 3 years from now.
The cowboys are up and coming and a possible playoff/superbowl contender
The cowboys are One injury away from a 8man front.
Look at the Redskins WR corps, Moss, Loyd and and that WR from the steelers (cant think of his name now). I Don't think their WR's are that impressive but its solid depth and they can get thru a inury
Raiders Jerry Porter is still young enough and playing behind a Randy Moss who will be a raider for some time.
Denvers: Lehie Young and upcoming WR who I think is still a gamble, but is hungry for the #1 Job and of course the #1 money it brings.
We no what this years WR is and could be. What will the WR corps look
like next year, No Glenn? No TO? Draft a rookie?
I thought Jevon Walker could of been a better choice than TO (cheaper and younger), But it serously looks like the Cowboys are going all out for the playoffs/superbowl this year. A Porter or Lehie will help now and for hopefully for the next 3 years.
I really think its a Tuna mind game or we will trade for nobody WR
But if its gonna be done, lets play for now and the future.

This isn't meant to be as rude as it is going to sound so pardon me:
This is not your XBox360. This is not Madden2007 where we can just trade for superstars and win a title. Disgruntled WRs unhappy with their current backup situation are not attractive to teams looking for depth only.
Teams are assembled not just by their talent, but also the team dynamics. Coach Parcells himself has said repeatedly: "I am looking to get the right guys on this team, they may not be the best guys, but they are the right guys for this team".
I can appreciate the angst about the future at the position. But adding talent like Porter or Lelie not only doesn't make smart business sense, it doesn't make much sense in terms of the future in the short term, which is what matters the most right now.

I kind of think if they do something it will be for someone we will scratch are head over.
If it is someone we know I am thinking maybe someone like
Bryant Johnson -Arizona
CHarles Rogers -Detroit
or the ronald curry type.
Its interesting though bethel johnson is a good guess too. I would think it would be someone that our front office has a relationship with, like jerry and bill with Al Davis.. or Jerry with Dennis green.
Nick eatman said yesterday maybe a possibility could be Al singleton and a draft pick 2nd day I assume for Charles Rogers or Mike williams since they have fallen out of favor. Singleton would fit in marinelli's defense pefectly just like in Tampa.
Who Knows. I know that if anything is done it will not be a big name guy so i dont even think about porter or lelie.

Is Dwight Still healthy?
I think that would be a guy that Bill would like due to his ST play.
However I thought even though he is far from being considered a star, he was liked a great deal by the teams he was on.
In other words if healthy I am not sure his team would want to trade him.
