Forget TE/NT.... we need to pick up this guy that the Bills cut.....
http://espn.starwave.com/i/nfl/profiles/players/statsid/s6973.jpgFull Name: Jonathan Dewayn Smith
Born: November 28, 1981 Argyle, GA
Height: 5-10
Weight: 194 lbs.
Age: 24
Pos: WR
Experience: 3 years
College: Georgia Tech
Drafted: Year:2004 Round:7 Pick:13, Bills
He's a MAJOR threat on KR/PR. Has blazing speed.... but with Terrance McGee on the squad to return kicks the Bills couldn't afford to keep him as a WR.
Smith is a big threat on every return... he made the most of his few attemps the last couple years.
KICK RETURN
25 yard average on 6 KR's (long of 44) and a 13.2 on PR's with a TD on 15 attempts (long of 70).... plus he had one in the preseason i believe....
basically he's what Skyler was supposed to give us..... we should give him a look even though it would mean cutting Austin prolly.

We already have made terrible roster decisions, we do not have the luxury of eating up a roster spot just for a return man.IE we need an extra kicker.

Ummmmmmmm.... weren't they doing everything in their pwoer to get Skyler to earn a job solely as a KR/PR on this team?
SO I was jsut assuming that they wanted a good young returner to help our ST unit....
But it's not like field position is important or anything... you're right... how stupid would THAT be....
what we REALLY need is 6 WR's when numbers 5 and 6 will never see the field.

The extra kicker is taking the 3rd string QB's spot...not a problem.

He does look like what we were trying to get out of Skyler. Has anyone seen him play much?

I guess my point was taking Green with a 4th round pick knowing he had no receiving abilities was a mistake. Keeping 6 WR I also believe is a mistake. These are all my opinions only. I feel this team has a chance to win the Superbowl, but like any other team I think we have made some mistakes.

It's called insurance. For example if TG goes down, Crayton can't stay healthy or even bigger - if TO is cut.

Yeah, I've seen him, every game he's played in the NFL. (I live in Buffalo and I'm an NFL nut, so...)
Nicknamed "Fast Freddie" yet you'll notice Fred or Freddie is nowhere in his name. The name comes from Freddie the scooby doo character, which apparently he's a fan of.
He's a major threat on punt returns, took one to the house versus the Pats two years ago and almost broke several last season in limited chances with Nate Clements and Roscoe Parrish also returning punts for the Bills.
Kickoffs not so much, but he hasn't had many chances with Terrence McGee in front of him.
He doesn't having blazing speed but really good instincts and quickness.

I've seen most of his games too.... i agree with pretty much everything you said except that he doesn't have blazing speed.... he's seems to play fast... but i found his 40 time from the draft and it was 4.61.... so he's not a super burner i guess....
The ONLY downside i've seen on his returning is that he takes a few more risks than i'd like.... fielding a punt or 2 he probably shoudl have let go or fair caught.... but he's got BIG TIME vision and the quickness/elusiveness to get into the open field and make the first guy miss....
just as an aside... he was taken in the 7th round in 2004... 2 picks BEFORE Patrick Crayton.... ;) gotta love those 7th rounders....

You get 8 inactives every game -- we cut players who wouldn't play on gameday for an extra kicker. How again is that a problem?
