Parcells said they we need Gurode against those big DTs stroud & henderson they have, but he also stated that if gurode keeps goofing up, then gurode will be on sideline
he stated when asked about their wrs, after jimmy smith retired, that one of the wr he wanted in the draft, but he got out voted or something along those lines.
he is worried about the wr-rb they have drew something, he reminds parcells of meggett, so got to watch him
also said since jerry jones laughingly was from arkansas and matt jones came from there, they did look and scout jones, but parcells still wanted the other wr that they have

That's either Wilford or Reggie Williams.
Wilford has great ability, but can't catch. Williams just plain sucks.
(ducks in fear of Len Pasquarelli jumping in and asking if "I've ever tried to catch the ball over the middle in the NFL)
Anyway....
If Parcells got turned down, I think we lucked out on that one.

So Pepper is gone.

right wilford, but i thought that kincade was released, to resign pepper johnson, and houston ;picked up kincade
Practice tidbits
? Linebacker Bradie James was at practice. He did not work Monday after taking a helmet to the groin in the preseason finale vs. Minnesota. In fact, there was no stationary bike out at practice. We'll update the injury report later.
? A number change: new nose tackle J'Vonne Parker is wearing No. 60, not No. 79.
? There was a practice squad move with nose tackle Thomas Johnson re-signed and running back Keylon Kincade (SMU product) let go. Johnson was cut off the active roster in favor of Parker on Monday.

I want to know more about this Wilford thing. Parcells said he wanted him, but was outvoted? Or did he mean that Jax beat us to the punch? Because Wilford was drafted one spot before Bruce Thornton.
If Parcells meant that he was outvoted in the draft room, then I wonder if Parcells wanted Wilford with the 3rd round pick... Who was the ill-fated Steven Peterman.

Interesting.
Throw in that BP supposedly went against everyone's wishes on Rogers the pick before, and maybe you have a "lets make a deal" scenario.

now if that meant jacksonville beat us to the punch or parcells wanted him in the 3rd round, parcells didnt eliberate on that, just stated that he wanted him, but didnt get him

It was Wilford Rich. BP said he wanted him.
I remember him in College.
We, WVU, were beating VT and the VT bench was in chaos.
Wilford said something to Coach Beamer and Beamer smacked him upside the head (think Wilford still had his helmet on).
Than Wilford stomped off and did not want to talk to coach beamer on the sidelines even though Beamer was trying (or looked like he was trying) to apologize.

superpunk gets angry....
Skyler was a multi-purpose player at LSU. He worked as a kick returner, punt returner, WR and yes was even lined up at RB at times. I think Skyler could develop into a 3rd down specialist as well as a kick returner at least I think that is what BP is hoping for.

ESPN shows that they traded with Baltimore for that pick...
I was curious about Parcells being outvoted because I didn't get to hear that part of the PC, so I wasn't clear on what BP really said...
If he wanted Wilford but Jax beat us, fine. If he was outvoted, maybe that's not so good.
Or maybe after Jacob Rogers, BP should've been outvoted. ;)

I thought that Wilford was the best of the bunch, didn't know he had a case of the "dropsies"........
KC Joyner had him down for 13 dropped passes. Joyner has him down for leading the league in percentage of catchable passes dropped at nearly 20%
That means that last year Wilford was good for about 1 dropped pass per 5 catchable passes thrown his way.

BP tends to think of present players in terms of past players who have played well for him or other coaches. (And that's not in any way a criticism.)
I think BP thinks of Green as a potential new Dave Meggett. And Meggett was an undersized 3rd down RB, not a receiver. Since Green wasn't excelling at WR, I think BP is just trying to find a spot for him where he can use his talents (quickness and elusiveness) to his best advantage.

What scrares me though is this
parcells said that he wants to play gurode sunday due to jacksonville big DT's.
However he did say that gurode had problems again monday, as well as you all know in minny game. If gurode keeps doing that, goofing up, he will get our QB killed.
Granted Al Johnson cant handle big DT's or NTs but al's strength is the 4-3, against their linebackers
He also said that he knew where he was with free safety with keith davis, but he wanted to see how pat watkins plays, and he stated- parcells that watkins gave up a deep touchdown today in pratice.
if im not mistaken on the touchdown that was caught against newman, watkins was back there, but not in position. So, parcells said he is trying to see where watkins is, not to get stage fright like most of them do on first NFL live game in regular season, before he announces whom his starting free safety is.

Skyler Green
You guys need to relax on the crazy notions about Green at RB...it's not because they think he'll be a good option at RB someday, fellas.
Green was drafted for 1 reason, to return punts and kicks. He messed up and showed he wasn't really ready to be trusted there. He's on the freakin' practice squad.
Why do you think most players that are cut remain on the same team's practice squad? Only a few sign elsewhere because most aren't going to play for anyone. The practice squad isn't to hide your future great players...it does have a developmental aspect, but it's also for practice!!!And you like to have guys who know your system and who have shown you they can work with you.
Teams need these guys so they don't beat up all the backups. When our first team D is practicing, do you think they are running JJ or Barber against them? Even Thompson isn't going to run all day long...Skyler Green wasn't put on the practice squad to learn the WR position. We brought him back with the hope that maybe he'll become the return guy we thought he was when we drafted him...he's going to be used as a RB in practice because we don't have another RB on the squad...period. If he has any talent there, then someday he may be a return man who can provide depth at RB and WR.
Don't think for a minute this is some divine plan and that you're going to see him at RB at any point in the next few years for Dallas.

Thomas Johnson is going to the active roster at Houston. Damarius Bilbo will replace him on the practice squad. Skyler Green will be working at RB some.
Bradie James, Flozell Adams and Mike Vanderjagt are all listed as questionable. All practiced today.
Andre Gurode had mental mistakes on Monday and against Minnesota last week, but I'm hoping to resolve it this week. We need him this week against the big DT's at Jax. Some times the game would move too fast for Andre in the past, but he's gotten past that. He's just making minor errors now, something the layman might not recognize.
Strength of Jax defense is the middle, it's hard to move them.
We might dress 7 OL, 11 of our 16 opponents dressed only 7 OL last year. Belicheck has only dressed 8 OL 3 times in 5 years. But you've got to have versatile linemen.
No decision on Keith Davis and Pat Watkins. I'm worried about him (Watkins) getting stage fright the first time out there. That's why we played him so much in the preseason.
Terrell Owens is doing pretty good, I've been talking to him about how he feels. He hasn't had any problems since he returned to practice. He's accelerating his progress. I hope he can be a full weapon on Sunday, stamina is a big thing. It's going to be difficult on the players because of the weather.
Julius is going to start at RB and we'll see if we can get him some holes. We can do a better job running the ball, but it wasn't a disaster in preseason.
Bledsoe is competitive, tough, he's taken a physical beating and he's still standing. When I first got him he had bed-hair, dirty t-shirts, all he needed was a peanut butter sandwich and a foot dragged over the couch and he would be like my teeenage daughters. He's matured now, he's grown up, he has his own kids now.
All the vets Bledsoe, Aaron Glenn, Ferguson they all want it more, now.
I tried to draft (Jax WR) Ernest Wilford, our scouts will tell you what I think of him. We did a lot of work on Matt Jones, Reggie Williams I don't know. This Owens (Chad Owens) kid from Hawaii, we have to watch him on special teams, I'm also worried about Maurice Drew in the kicking game.

Johnson only plays Center............Proctor only plays guard.

I think Fabini and Johnson. Parcells was asked the question today and he said that if a guard got hurt, Gurode would go to G and Johnson would come in at C.
For this particular game, I wonder if he might activate McQ, just because Flo is coming off the injury. I guess it depends on how recovered Flo looks.
