This team played Tennessee and Houston twice last year...(4 wins)
They played San Fransisco (I know we did too, 5 wins)
They beat Cleveland and Arizona (7 wins)
they beat Baltimore (8 wins)
They beat the Jets (9 wins)
9 of their 12 wins were against piss poor bottom of the barrel teams...
They lost to indy both times they played.
Their only impressive wins last year came early in the season.
Pittsburgh with Maddox (in over time)
Cincinnati by 3
Actually their only really impressive win was against seattle..
The best team in the original list was Cleveland who went 6-10
Baltimore went 6-10
Arizona went 5-11
Tennessee went 4-12
New York went 4-12
San fran went 4-12
Who DIDNT beat these teams?

Those are very legitimate observations, GB. I think the Jags are a good team because they actually went out and beat those poor teams and their defense looked downright dominant on some occasions but to say that there aren't questions about the Jags schedule last season is ludicrous. With a better schedule we'll probably see a more realistic gauge of wins for what kind of club the Jags really are...and yes, let's see how they do against the Indianapolis Colts this year.

I watched Jax in the preseason and they could not move the ball to save their lives against first team defenses. They don't have one good WR and Leftwich is mediocre at best at this point. I may sound biased but I just don't see their receivers getting seperation on our corners or them moving the ball. It will be a very low scoring game unless we decide to air it out early.

Jaguars will probably only win 7 games this year but anytime a team has a very good D they have the chance to overachieve and so you cannot overlook them

I already said this awhile back, but yeah... they have proven nothing other than that they can beat up lesser teams, and if you put them up against a team that game plans for them and actually has talent (last year's patriot's even though they had quite a few injuries) they will get stomped. Parcell's imo will have the gameplan ready for the jags and the game will end up being somewhat like jags vs pats imo.
Playing those weak teams also makes their stats seem better on offense as well, i.e. leftwich's 3:1 td/int rate. Against good teams, cincy/denver/indy/pitts/seattle, he was 6tds 3 ints and that's a small sample of games so it doesn't really say too much.
One thing's for certain, I'll have my money on the cowboys, bet now while the cowboys still have that +2 spread!

I don't think anyone is overrating the Jags but the huge cause of concerns comes from Stroud and Henderson in the middle and Kosier, Gurode, and Rivera's ability to keep Drew's uniform clean. That said, I'm sure we'll be moving the pocket a bunch this weekend.

Agreed. We should all know this. They have a very strong tandem of DT's. That alone is worth alot.
They lack a good pass rusher, they have good LB's, and a solid secondary.
That's enough to give us headaches.

I was going to add this to my post, but you beat me to it.
They win the fight in the trenches, and that leads them to being a good defense.

They did beat some sorry teams, but they also beat the PAtriots Colts and Steelers if I'm not mistaken.

You're mistaken. Colts were undefeated until they rested the starters and played San Diego. Jags beat Pittsburgh because Maddox was at QB and played horribly as usual. Jags didn't even play the Patriots.

No offense, but you could make the same argument about us last year if you cast everything negatively:
We beat San Diego when they didn't have Gates.
We got swept by Washington.
We barely beat San Francisco -- a piss poor team.
We lost to pathetic Oakland.
We swept Philadelphia on their down year -- one game by a miracle finish.
We split with the Giants but our win came in OT.
Lost to Seattle.
We beat a bad Arizona team.
We beat a bad Detroit team.
Lost to Denver.
Squeaked on out against KC with another miracle finish and an iffy 4th down call.
Beat Carolina in a game where Steve Smith was ejected.
Played embarrasingly poorly against St. Louis and lost.
Don't get me wrong, I think we'll beat Jacksonville... but you can't poo poo their record last year. They won a lot of games and did so fairly convincingly. I know at least one of their losses to Indy was a squeaker too.

Does Leftwhich strike any of you as a poor man's Bledsoe? They basically have the identical strengths and flaws. I know the Broncos last year we're saying that they noticed on film that Lefty holds onto the ball a long time and almost exclusively takes 5 to 7 step drops. He also takes a ton of sacks and fumbles a lot. But Lefty is much more injury prone and he hasn't translated those strengths to nearly the same kind of production at similar points in their careers.

Yeah, and like you say, Bledsoe was very productive at Lefty's age, Lefty has yet to produce on that level.
I thought Lefty would be alot better coming into the league, he has really disappointed me. He seemed to make quick reads in college, don't know what changed that.

I think both the Jags and Boys are comparable when it comes to defensive play, but we easily have the more explosive passing attack. No turnovers, give Drew some pass protection and solid defense will win this one for us.

one thing is for certain, Vandy will need to make a few kicks or we don't have a chance in what should be a low scoring game.

Comments: Both the Cowboys and Jaguars were eerily similar in terms of performance during the 2005 season. We may have had a few tougher opponents, but the Jaguars had more road games, one set of 2 road games back to back; another set of 3 road games back to back, later in the season! The Jaguars also defensively held the Colts to 10 points on the road. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
So now our first game of the new season is on the road against this 12-4 team that we seem inclinded to overrate? Let me have some of that peyote... We may be in for a rude awakening but I am sure Parcells isn't looking at the Jaguars from an optimistic fan perspective. I believe we can win this game as well, but it could be a grueling squeaker.

Reggie Hayward is a pretty good pass rusher and will probably give us problems Sunday because 1) if Adams plays he probably isnt anywhere near 100% and 2) if McQuistan plays he's a rookie and bound to get beat a few times....
Paul Spicer is an over achiever type but he got 7 1/2 sacks himself

QB: Bledsoe, Lefty...Bledsoe

TE: Witten, whoever the Jags have, hehe, Kyle Brady...WItten, hell, maybe even Fasano

As far as I'm concerned the Jags are a professional team with some good players and very capable of going out and winning games. Dallas can't afford to treat them any other way. Cowboys have a lot to prove this season and we are in no position to take any team lightly.

Sorry about that, lousy editing on my part. I meant to state back to back or successive road games which I stated later but did not take out in the first part. As other teams they had an equal amount of road and home games. My apologies for typing like an idiot.
