View Full Version : Parcells on Henson

The host of the show Cowboys Huddle on Direct TV finally asked Parcells about Henson, bringing up the fact that Parcells had mentioned something about talking about it at a later date. Parcells said, and I am paraphrasing, that something just wasn't there. He had all the physical tools but something wasn't right and you couldn't put your finger on it. He said he has seen it before in athletes, and that he tried many different approaches on Henson and none of them worked.
On a side note, that is almost exactly what Gil Brandt said to me in July when I called into Sirius and asked him about Henson.

I'd love to see/hear exactly what he said, if anyone knows where it can be found.

That is almost exactly what he said, pretty much word for word...........
Babe also tried to bait BP on Romo. BP would only say that the coaching staff is very comfortable with Romo if he had to play. Says he was given a challenge and came through with flying colors.

SO, what Bill is saying is that he failed as a coach? If he has all the physical tools, then one of two things: Either he is a head case, or was improperly handled by the coaches. I guess time will tell which it was. I would hate to see Henson go elsewhere and become a solid starter. That might well be Bill's legacy if he does.

By the way, "physical tools" =/= "talent"

"all the physical tools" is usually code for a player lacking sufficient quarteback 'I&I'. (instinct and intelligence...and that is not IQ per se, but pro qb read and react time.)

No...According to fortdick, it is a "Parcells has failed as a coach" thread.

Henson will be signed this week, then we'll see if coaching can make a difference. Or just getting reps for that matter. ;)

This makes no sense.
parcells said henson has the tools but for some reason, isn't "putting it together". to come out and just blither about shouting HE SUCKS HE SUCKS is about jr high crap to me, sorry.
henson can be a good player but it sounds like he'll need to be in another system that maybe he identifies better with.
but if it makes you feel better just keep shouting he sucks.

you're right. NO ONE COULD possibly be put into a situation that puts them over their head at the time. he could never learn from mistakes and come through later. it was such a perfect environment here and he just totally blew it proving some wind up monkies on a forum must know him well enough to make such statements.
what the HELL was i thinking?

Please....let it end.
Same with the talk of Quincy, Hutchinson, etc.
The only former QB's that should be talked about are Aikman and Staubach. No other QB has delivered a Superbowl, so let it go!

sigh - you must be right. the fact that parcells said that he has the tools belies the fact he must suck so you can feel better about things. given your "facination" w/romo, i can only guess you chose a player and are sticking to your loyalities regardless.
that's NOT what parcells said but you seem to have some desire to make it that way. grow up.

Cheap shot, I know, but I was more inspired by Quincy Carter of all people in interviews than I was by Drew Henson.

Yeah, I saw that this morning as well here on TV in Dallas.
Basically you guys got it right on Henson. They tried for three years. He has physical tools but for some reason there is a block and the player just doesn't seem to be able to put it together. He likes him personally, just not coming together and it was time to move on.
What I found MOST interesting, however, was the Tony Romo blurb. He said they are now comfortable with Romo if they need him. And, would be comfortable to put Romo in if they NEEDED A SPARK.
Interesting. Let the conspiracy begin!

He sucks. Get over it. Move on.
Iceberg might have to find a new job now that Henson doesnt need a PR man in Dallas anymore.
