Geathers couldn't stop on that one. Green tried to get the first and got nailed.

He got freaking nailed, and now is laying on the ground, knocked out, getting ready to be carted off the field

The announcers are saying that it should be a no call. They're nuts. When the quarterback is clearly sliding before being tackled, any hit is, at the very least, unnecessary roughness.

The30YardSlant
09-10-2006, 01:54 PM
What happened?

He got hit HARD as he was sliding and his head hit the turf and bounced like a basketball. He was knocked out cold and hasnt moved at all for about 5 minutes

BlueStar22
09-10-2006, 01:54 PM
running for first down and was attempting to slide and Geathers nailed him. Geathers couldn't stopped and the KC WR pretty much blocked him into Green.

what should Geathers had done? Stop on a dime? He wasn't on the ground yet that's why he got nailed. It's fair game.

I thought the hit was unnecessary too, as Trent was well on his slide down, but apparently the Chiefs aren't even going to get a penalty off it....Geathers couldn't 'stop in time'.

Green was getting shelled all day. Defenders literally hurdling the line.

What did Herm do to that offense (ok Saunders is gone) and line? :)

Outside of Joe Theisman's leg break, that might be one of the most disturbing football hits I've ever seen. The way his head hot the turf is vomit inducing

He was sliding before the hit. Even if Geathers 'accidentially' hit him, it's a defender hitting a sliding quarterback. JMO.

It was arguably a no call from the standpoint of Green being late with his slide.

However, it's a no-brainer that the tackler led with his helmet and speared the other player as well as hitting the QB in the head. Either unnecessary roughness or a personal foul should have been called.

Personally, I would have thrown the guy out of the game. Right there on the spot.

Look for this play to be reviewed by the league and Geathers to get a big fine. JMO.

well, no one's going to argue it wasn't 'fair'..until a player's touched by a defender, he can always get up and start running again. Or he could trump the infamous Vinnie T as a Raven play and instead of throw a pick from his knees, throw one from on his back.

Of course, the Vegas odds on Green trying to make anything happne at that point play might have been 2 billion to one....

That's not true. The tackler's helmet hit Green on his right shoulder pad. The right shoulder of the tackler hit Green's head and forced it to snap back and hit the ground.

if he led with his shoulder....

I saw the shoulder pad make contact.

That's fair. If so then not as big a deal to me. I still think the player's helmet made contact thith the QBs helmet. That's still an illegal hit in my book and I believe in the NFL as well.

Speaking of fair, I don't think the league will be fair about this. Geathers will be made an example of IMO. Geathers did not do himself any favors by struting around. That was just shamelful. Again JMO.

And please none of the taking hitting out of football, playing flag football, yada. I'm all for hard hitting. Just not head hunting. I still remember seeing Daryl Stingley (sic) get hit.

Well I have to eat some crow but not all of it. I saw the replays of the hit (which I hadn't seen) and I agree. I would have sworn he speared him and hit helmet to helmet, but I was wrong. I wish now I had waited and seen them before saying some of the things I did.

However, he still hit him while he was sliding. I've played and you can lighten up your hit or even miss the guy. Yes even at that speed. And the guy was on the ground essentially. There is no need to deliberately try to smack someone when they are on the ground. That's still unnecessary roughness in my book.

What really POed me was he looked back at him still lying there and started strutting and acting like a hoodlum. There is no place for that in football AFAIC. I still think that was shameless. Big hits are fine. I loved it. But if they were hurt I was right there beside them.

I guess I shouldn't be so opinionated about this but I dislike this relatively new hoodlum stuff seen on the field. Sorry if I offended anyone.
