I love watching Joe Gibbs in tears after that missed field goal. What a little punk. Oh and did anyone hear Theismann's voice cracking after the missed field goal. What a great night. Bring on next Sunday.

Hate to say it but they are better than I thought. The East looks like a balanced division all the way.

I'm more interested in the 2nd meeting because this offense appeared to only "get it" half the time..........One thing I didn't like is that Cooley wasn't even an option....blocking 9/10 plays.....

Cooley looked lackadasical he just was not an impact at all!

but i expect him to come out of his shell, not next week though

It's early and they are still adjusting to a new offense, but tonight that Redskins offense reminded me of some of the Cowboys offenses in the second half of the 90's. Close to being very good, but just missing. And settling for field goals ....

Better WR? maybe slightly
Better O-line? no
Better d-line? Maybe with hayward, but without, prob not
Better corners? No
Better safties? Probably wash.

Actually, the Skins were dominated up front and they lost "at home", which is normally the advantage.

We were 10-0 and then blew the game. The Skins were simply manhandled by the Minn OL.

Not good if I were a Skins fan..and that "potent" Saunder's offense was atrocious in ineptitude.

Good Try...no dice!! ;)

Whatever. The only thing that's obvious here is that the Jags are a better team than the Vkings...I don't care whether they're playing on the road or at home. They're just better.

And, no, I don't think the Vikings are a bad team. They just aren't in Jacksonville's league.

Well, I just have one question?

Where was that other 98% of the RedStink playbook at?

What are they up to now? Maybe 7% of the playbook?

Anyone that watched the game knows that the refs really messed up a lot of calls! All those wrong penalties against Sean Taylor were bogus! The RedStinks got beat again by the system. Taylor is a good and nice player and would not do something bad...

If Joe Gibbs don't send any tapes to the NFL I will be surprised!! The RedStinks won this game, period! They played better then the Vikes, but, the refs won this game for the Vikes...

I find it pretty funny that the Vikings can come to DC and some of their players can get some, uh, emm, city loving in a stairwell, and still win the game.

I cannot believe Joe Gibbs had tears in his eyes for this loss...a grown man?

Oh well...to bad, so sad...

what is so much better about the jags???

Well, let's see--

The Jags went 12-4 last year, the Vikings went 9-7... there's one clear statistical advantage...

The Jags ranked 6th in total defense, at 290.9 yards per game, the Vikings ranked 21st, at 323.3 yards per game... there's a second clear statistical advantage... the Boys gained 323 yards on the Jags, some 32 yards more than the Jags allowed last year , the Skins gained 266 yards on the Vikings, 47 yards fewer than the Vikings gave up last year... ...

The Jags ranked 15th in total offense, at 321.8 yards per game, the Vikings ranked 25th, at 288.8 yards per game... there's a third clear statistical advantage... the Boys gave up 307 yards to the Jags, nearly 15 yards behind their average last year, the Skins gave up 309 yards to the Vikings, nearly 20 yards more than their average last year...

The Jags ranked 12th in scoring last year, averaging 22.6 points per game, the Vikings ranked 19th, at 19.1 points per game... there's a fourth clear statistical advantage... the Cowboys gave up 24 to the Jags, a little above their average last year... and the Skins gave up 19 to the Vikings, right at their season average last year... ...

The Jags ranked 6th in scoring defense last year, allowing an average of 16.8 points per game, the Vikings ranked 20th in scoring defense, allowing an average of 21.5 points per game... that's a fifth clear statistical advantage... the Boys scored 17 points on the Jags , right at what the Jags allowed last year per game, and the Skins scored 16 on the the Vikings, considerably under what the Vikes allowed last year...

The Jags had an average margin of victory of 5.8 points per game, the Vikings margin was a MINUS 2.4 points per game... there's a sixth clear statistical advantage...

And the Jags had a harder strength of schedule factor...

ALL of those mean the Jags were a better team going into this season than the Vikings were...

silverbear

The Jags had an average margin of victory of 5.8 points per game, the Vikings margin was a MINUS 2.4 points per game... there's a sixth clear statistical advantage...
Well, since your math is a little off, I'll point out that the Vikings were 5.4 better than their average, while the Jags were 7 points better than their average. So that's a clear statistical advantage for the Skins. You know, you pointed it out for every other stat except for that one...just thought I'd let you know...;)

And the Jags had a harder strength of schedule factor...

ALL of those mean the Jags were a better team going into this season than the Vikings were...
PS -- The Vikes finished last season at 7-2, they added the best run-blocking FB in the game and the best LG in the game...Also, the Jags were only 3.5 ppg better than the Vikes last season.

The Vikes were looking good entering the season -- don't try to use last year's stats to compare them...

silverbear
09-12-2006, 02:44 AM
Well, since your math is a little off, I'll point out that the Vikings were 5.4 better than their average, while the Jags were 7 points better than their average. So that's a clear statistical advantage for the Skins.

Ahhh, but the question was which team is better, the Jags or the Vikings... so your little addition to the equation is what we in the linguistic business call a nonsequitur...

PS -- The Vikes finished last season at 7-2, they added the best run-blocking FB in the game and the best LG in the game...

They also have an entirely new coaching staff, and a new system...

Also, the Jags were only 3.5 ppg better than the Vikes last season.

Work the math again-- the Jags' margin of victory was PLUS 5.8 points per game (22.6 ppg scored, 16.8 ppg allowed), while the Vikings was MINUS 2.4 points per game (19.1 ppg scored, 21.5 ppg allowed)... clearly, you were just talking about OFFENSIVE production, where the Jags averaged 3.5 points more than the Vikes did... but when you factor in DEFENSIVE production, the Jags were 8.2 points per game better...

And that's a rather big difference, actually...

The Vikes were looking good entering the season

LOL... wrong again... oh, maybe it's unfair to say they were looking BAD, but bottom line, they went 2-1-1 against teams whose aggregate preseason record was 9-7-1, while the Jags went 3-1 against teams whose aggregate preseason record was 9-7... advantage, Jags...

Total Offense-- Jags 317.0 yards per game, Vikes 288.5 yards per game... advantage, Jags...

Total Defense-- Jags 297.2 yards per game allowed, Vikes 352.5 yards per game allowed... HUGE advantage, Jags...

Scoring Offense-- Jags 22.5 points per game, Vikes 17.5 points per game... advantage, Jags...

Scoring Defense-- Jags 19.5 points per game allowed, Vikes 10.8 points per game allowed... rather significant advantage to the Vikings here...

Clearly, there's nothing in the numbers to suggest that the Vikings had a better preseason than the Jaguars did...

And since you used the "going into the regular season" argument, in their final preseason game, the Vikes played the Boys to an overtime tie, while the Jags beat the Falcons...

You might want to check the facts before making wild claims like this... LOL...

Ahhh, but the question was which team is better, the Jags or the Vikings... so your little addition to the equation is what we in the linguistic business call a nonsequitur...

Wait...so you compare every other stat against what the teams allowed last year except points -- why is the ONE stat that shows the Vikes in a better light a non-sequitor while the rest are solid analysis??

They also have an entirely new coaching staff, and a new system...

And??? The Skins have an entirely new offensive system.

Yeah, I was talking about offensive production. That's what matters here, because the Skins and Boys were very similar statistically last year on defense.

Washington 9th overall in total defense, Dallas 10th overall (297.9 vs. 300.9 ypg).
Washington 9th in scoring defense, Dallas 12th overall (18.3 vs. 19.2ppg).

And that's a rather big difference, actually...

I'm not arguing that Jax was a worse team than Minny last season...I'm arguing that coming into this season, Minny looked just as good. Their offensive line is sick, as well as their lead blocker.

LOL... wrong again... oh, maybe it's unfair to say they were looking BAD, but bottom line, they went 2-1-1 against teams whose aggregate preseason record was 9-7-1, while the Jags went 3-1 against teams whose aggregate preseason record was 9-7... advantage, Jags...

When are you poke fans gonna realize that preseason means nothing?? The Pokes were undefeated this preseason...fat lotta good that did them...
