When Raiders (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=oak) wide receiver Randy Moss (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4262) said of his team, "things are crazy around here," he wasn't kidding.

Porter

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on its Web site that disgruntled receiver Jerry Porter (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5076) who was inactive for the 27-0 drugging the Raiders absorbed from the San Diego Chargers on Monday night, was seen laughing and pumping his fist on the sidelines when Raiders teammate Aaron Brooks was sacked for the seventh time.

Porter's role on the team has greatly diminished after he clashed with new coach Art Shell in the offseason over his offseason workout plans. Porter demanded a trade at the start of training camp, but the Raiders have declined to grant his wish.

Porter was slowed by a calf injury early in training camp but was healthy for the final three preseason games and was not listed on the team's injury report leading up to the game. He was on the sideline in street clothes for this game.

"As far as Jerry Porter is concerned, I really don't know where he stands, what the organization has in store for him," Moss told Fox Sports Radio last week. "So the only thing I can do is worry about the guys they're putting on the field."

Porter led the Raiders with 76 catches last season and had 942 yards receiving and five touchdown receptions in 2005.

He has not been listed as a starter all of training camp, even after the Raiders traded starter Doug Gabriel (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6503) to New England on Sept. 2.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.

Surprise, surprise...a typical Art Shell coached team. Similar things were happing during his last stint. Shell made a big deal during his prior stint when he found a player eating sunflower seeds on the sideline during a blowout loss.

The Raiders seem to continue their Commitment to Mediocrity.

I wonder if he believes that this would help his cause. Just envision another GM from around the league and how Porter would help improve team morale. Does anybody want to trade for this guy?The guy just doesn't get it.

The Raiders don't appear to get it either. Minnesota's head coach is looking solid, despite a series of truly weird Manifestations. (Nude coach at Wendy's, "Love Boat" to name two.) He puts his foot down and the team wins. Porter is pulling what T.O. might have pulled last year, but Porter does not have T.O's physical gifts. Maybe they should just show his teammates a picture of him laughing and pumping his fist during the sacks and invite the team to "sack" Porter. Either way, the Raiders don't appear to have any real direction.

Merriman's thoughts on Aaron Brooks

We knew that we had to come in here with high fists with these guys because they have talent," Merriman said. "They have some of the better receivers in the league, and they have one of the better running backs. Aaron Brooks is nothing but a wide receiver who can throw the ball, and he can run, too. We had to come in here and out-physical these guys.

Same old gig for Shell. Who was it one year standing away from the team, during the game, eating sunflower seeds? Was it Marcus allen? Funny how Gruden made that thing work.

Brooks shouldn't even be an NFL QB. I watched Saints fans here locally get to a point where they were ready to jump off a cliff while watching him play. I was rolling when the Saints let Jake Delhomme go to the Panthers while Brooks stayed in New Orleans, only to have Delhomme lead Carolina to the Super Bowl.

The guy just doesn't get it. Brooks threw for less than 70 yards last night! How is that possible with Randy Moss on your team?

what a moron. I wouldn't want him on my team. he just caused his trade to be delayed even more. which team wants a player that doesn't support his team mates....he has a bone with the team and the organization but to pump a fist at players you practice with.....that sucks... **** him.

I think he's pulling the ol' George Costanza "trying to get fired" act. But in this case he's trying to get traded/cut.

First he parks in Al Davis' parking spot and now this?

What a disaster.

Raider Nation in all its big, bad hideous glory pours into that old stadium and watches their "team" get the dirt from those base paths kicked in their face.

Aaron Brooks flat-out can't play.

Which is poison for Randy Moss, who sulks and loafs when he doesn't get the ball.

Jerry Porter laughing at the debacle.

Their offensive coordinator, fresh from his bed and breakfast in Idaho, shuffling through his papers in the coach's box.

Art Shell walking around scribbling stuff on a clipboard like he's a building inspector. What is he writing ... his will?

Al Davis, whose mind left his feeble body long ago, keeps muttering "Just win, baby .... Commitment to excellence .... Raiduhs .... Just win baby .... Commitment to excellence .... "

Hard to believe Moss is wasting his career on that Raiders team. He could be doing so much more on a team that had a chance in hell of winning something.

The money must make it a bit easier for him to take.

Yeah, I think that's right with the new CBA. At least, IIRC, it's much more difficult to do.

Yeah, well, just make him sit until they get a decent draft pick. Meanwhile, make him be around his "teammates" at every occasion.

I think he was saying he's not a good quarterback, but I guess you can he complimented his athleticism, since he mentions that and his ability to throw a ball. Bottomline, I don't think too many players around the league respect Brooks very much.

Brooks had zero interceptions despite 9 sacks, while Bledsoe had 3 ints with only 2 sacks which translates into 9 ints for Bledsoe if he been playing in Brooks place. Bledsoe also didnt have one his starting wr's on the sideline cheering against his own team and Bledsoe's TE didnt drop 3 passes.

Are you actually trying to formulate a hypothetical mathematical correlation between Brooks' sacks and Bledsoe's interceptions?

I love how Brooks' sacks, and lack of INTs, is manipulated into being a good thing.

Nevermind the fact that he led his team to a grand total of zero TDs. Looks like with your stellar logic, Brooks is on pace for, let me check......yeah...0 TDs for the year.

To be fair here, Porter is denying these allegations that were reported by the SF Chronicle. He's claiming that he was "whooping it up" with some fans in the stands and that he wasn't even following the game.

The first thing I thought when I saw this report was: no one is that stupid, he was probably talking to a buddy on the sideline and just happened to laugh when Brooks got sacked, and the media took it completely out of context and turned it into something it wasn't.

That, of course, appears to be the case. The updated article is on ESPN.com, in which Porter claims to have been talking to some fans and not paying attention to the game. Before everyone starts jumping all over him for that, just pay attention to the inactive guys on the sidelines next game you watch (especially if they are winning or losing by 4 TD's) and see how engrossed in the game they are.
