This is a positive early line for the Boys I believe.

At least three or four of those points are probably due to homefield advantage, which in reality doesn't seem to mean a lot in this series.

Sounds fair to me---final score in area of 21-14.

Home field usually = 3 pts.

Agreed. This game will be decided by 3 points or less.

TAKE WASH AND THE POINTS, we're only winning by 4.

its a good spread, in reality cowboys are favored by 2.5 points with the 3 extra points for home field advantage

and how many favorites and home teams won around the NFL last week?

Not like the lines are a prediction of outcome in the first place.

They're based on trying to get equal money bet on both teams.

If the number goes even higher it'll just be because all the money is coming in on Dallas.. not cause the guy just suddenly thought maybe Dallas will win by more afterall.

If Bledsoe's back doesn't hold up any better than it did Sunday, we are not going to win at all...

DipChit is right. The lines are based on public perception in an attempt to have equal money on both sides so vegas can cash on the juice being paid by the winners.

If the numbers goes higher, it means the public is over Dallas and they are looking to get some action on the Redskins.

People don't seem to realize that it's not Vegas predicting the point spread, but moreso Vegas looking for equal action.

On a typical spread, you have to lay $110 to win $100. That is how vegas wins money. Because they'll win the $110 from the losing side, and only have to payout $100 to the winners. If you have 500 people with 250 on the Redskins and 250 on the Cowboys, the books would profit $2,500 on a typical dime line (-110, aka lay 110 to win 100). The extra $10 you have to wager to win $100 is called the "juice".

Probably very close to the final score. Believe me, we will have plenty to stress about during the game.

It does, however, show there is some confidence with the oddsmakers that Dallas will win. Now, if the line goes south and ends up being -1... Houston, we have a problem. All the money is coming in on Washington. Does any of this mean they will win or lose....of course not. But it can be a telling thing as many games are decided by a point or less based on the point spread.

That's a big part of it, but Vegas knows they can never really get an even split of 50% of the gamblers taking each team.

What Vegas usually does is that they know it's human nature for gamblers to take the favorite. Thus, they usually add points to the spread so when gamblers still take the favorite, the underdog winds up beating the spread and sucks the money from the gambler's wallet.

Thus, it's usually advantageous to lean towards taking the underdog, especially when you're in doubt.

At the very worst, the point spread will go down to -4. A 4 1/2 point decrease in the spread from Tuesday to Saturday is usually only reserved for extreme circumstances. Even going down 1 1/2 points is pretty rare.

Best "bet" is to just bypass bookies and bet with cocky fans.. that actually have money and will pay up if need be.

Find a Dallas fan thats so sure they're going to cream the skins that they give you 7.5 if you take the skins. Then find a skins fan who'll settle for say getting 1.5 points and bet equal amounts with each.

In this example, if Dallas wins by from 2 to 7 points you cash in on both.. anything else happens and you just break even.

I have placed many bets on football games but I never bet on the Cowboys. Something to do with betting with your heart ends up killing your wallet. Plus there is enough pressure taking place on game day without worrying if they cover the spread or not also felt it was just a bad omen :laugh2:

I for one, would like a blowout victory in our favor just for once just so I can get rid of the gametime stress and actually relax during the game.

We haven't had one of those in a long time due to our cardiac games of last year.

I'm willing to lay the blame on you. :laugh2: I will say that is the only superstition I have and it really has more to do with betting with your head and not your heart so to eliminate that I just don't bet on the Cowboys. I'll bet on many different games in a season I just don't put bet money on the Cowboys even during the glory days.

True, I do feel good once we win the close ones, but then I have trouble sleeping after the game ends since my heart rate is still elevated.

I miss the days when we could blow out an opponent and I could sit back and enjoy the rest of the game while sipping on a cold one.

I agree, it is nice heading into the 4th qrt of a game and your only concern is when are the backups going to come into the game.

We need one like the Philly game in Dallas last year....Bang! A laugher the entire time. Glenn open on every play, no pass pressure, JJ ripping one off for 40+ yards. That is what I'm talking about!

LOL at ES they have a poll on who they think will win the game and 56% picked the Cowboys. It shocked me cause they are usually so arrogant even though except for last year we have owned them.

Yeah, ES is being bombarded with posts that claim the sky is falling. It is kinda funny, but I see the same thing here. It is simply week 1 syndrome.

With that being said, I hope we beat them like rented mules next Sunday.

I'm very superstitious about the Cowboys. Any game that I miss, the Cowboys lose. So whenever I'm away (like last Christmas I was at San Fran), I just come on these chats, and listen.

My cousin wasn't very happy about that lol. He had no idea why I was so obsessed.

I also never make threads in the week of a game, because every time I've made a thread, we've lost. I also don't watch the TV shows after a loss, because I did that before the second Giants game, and ughh.

I used to feel like that.. that if I didnt watch, they'd lose. Course the Campo/Quincy era took care of that notion either way. But the thing is I must be a glutton for punishment because I havent missed one since the late 80's.. oh there was a couple I had to set to tape and then just avoid knowing out the outcome for a couple days til I got home.

I thought for sure I was gonna miss seeing last years MNF game in Philly live on tv because I was on a cruise ship that week. But it so happened that ESPN Desportes carried the game and that channel is available at sea.

The only prob was it was like the first full day at sea and I was kinda groggy from it. I dozed off a couple times during the game (didnt care *that* much cause we were playing like for the most part anyway) but thankfully I woke up again just in time to see Roy takin that pick to the house. heh

lol. The Eagles game was crazy. I was about to give up, but then my parents told me something along the lines of "A true Cowboys fan never gives up on his team". (And they think that I'm obsessed). So they make me stay up (I used to sleep early those days), and right then and there, TG caught the TD pass, and suddenly RW got his INT. I was very grateful towards my parents.

I'm usually very cautious when playing any team in the East, but this time I think if our defense shows up, we will scorch the Skins thoroughly.

It's clear they have a serious problem in the secondary...they can't cover and really are missing Springs. If they give enough help back there to slow down T.O., Glenn, and Witten, I believe JJ and Barber will have a big night.

Our offense is going to score at least 24, possibly 31. The trick will be if our defense shows up and shuts them down for a blowout or if they hibernate two weeks in a row and make it a shootout.

Right now, this week only, in Dallas, I don't believe the Skins defense can hang with the Cowboys offense.
