We've got a major punt return weapon in Newman. But it's also imperative to have him playing CB if we want the defense to be successful this season. How does the risk/reward equation work out for you as far as having Newman return punts a) this Sunday, and b) the rest of the season?

I think we should give him a chance on a couple of them. make em split time with rector. We should get an idea of how well he does just with a couple a game.

I agree. Put him out there when they're in max protect. Give him some breathing room and reduce chance for injury.

Let Crayton make fair catches the rest of the time:). Rector looked pretty nervous out there.

go to bed

Thats actually a good idea.

Hey I love Newman and think he is the most underated CB in the league.

But he has not really returned punts since college ......and if he wiffs a punt ..... thats when he would get hurt diving to recover the ball as the opposing special team dives into his back ...

just do not want our best CB hurt.

I dont care if i get a warning or not but...........

ANYBODY WHO SAYS THEY DONT WANT NEWMAN RETURNING PUNTS BECAUSE OF INJURY ARE IDIOTS!

We sure couldve used a good return against the jaguars when our offense looked putried after the 1st quarter eh? Im sick of people on this board taking for granted the importance of special teams/punt returning.

disgusting!

And yes, i KNOW he can win a game for us as punt returner. Dont just think he can.

easy...easy

we drafted skyler to do that exact thing...

he failed horribly.
our defense is good enough to make punt returner a non factor.
trust me on this.

i love you're passion though.

I want him returning the punt if the other team is punting from inside their 10 yardline.

You are not alone. I've been waiting for him to take over PR duties since the day he signed!

I like the thought of using TNew as a situational PR man, not full time though. He is the only real threat we have to take one to the house.

BTW, the skins punter is garbage, so this may be a good time to give him a shot at 1 or 2 PR's.

Well... Look how many punt returners actually get hurt returning punts... not very many.

why the hell not?

Guys, really, how many punt returners have you seen hurt?? I want to know, cause I haven't seen any, and all you guys are sooooooooooo worried about it, I just wonder if you have any examples of injuried punt returners.

Edit: Hadn't even seen Muhast's post, lol.

I mean realistically MAYBE 2 punt returners get blown up a year. I dont see why everyone so against it.

How valuable was Deion Sanders as a cb?

Was that too much to risk?
