View Full Version : After watching Jax out-physical the Steelers

I don't feel bad at all about the Cowboys... Maybe Big Ben was still feeling the effects of his 104 degree fever, or his appendectomy from 1 week ago was still more bothersome than normal... I don't know.
But the Jacksonville Jags look like the REAL deal... They are big and physical and they hit hard for 4 quarters. I can't wait to see Jax vs. Indy next week.
The Pittsburgh offense has done damage to some teams in the past with their run first, run hard style, but the Jags took the physical game right to them. I don't think I've ever seen Hines Ward take the pounding he did last night... Plus, late in the game the announcers said Pitt did not have a rushing first down...
Pittsburgh without a rushing first down hasn't happened in a game since they played the Cowboys in the 60's... don't remember the exact date. Did anyone hear that segment?
And their D was missing a stud DE.
Scary.

I'd still feel much better if the Boys were 2-0 tho. :)

I don't think Big Ben was the problem (healthy or not) The Stealers couldn't run at all on the Jags and their offense is designed to use the run to set up the pass. Without a running game they were sunk.

Jax is gonna struggle with more dynamic passing teams. That's why we had more success than the Steelers, and why Indy continually has their number. They can get physical against WRs, but they're not the greatest "cover" corners. It did make me feel alot better about our fellas that we dropped 17 on em with a dismal Bledsoe performance, and on the road.

I couldn't agree with you more. Yes, I wish Dallas was 2-0, but I am really beginning to think that the entire country is indeed "sleepin" on Jacksonville. They lost Hayward for the entire season and STILL dominated that Pitt O-line.

I think Jacksonville is a good team. They must beat Indianapolis to take their place at the top of the AFC. We'll see this week.

I was thinking the same thing watching the Jags beat the world champs. Perhaps Dallas was not as miserable as we thought in week 1. Maybe the Jags are pretty darned good. If so, the Cowboys could have beaten a good team on the road.
The Titans are another story. That is a game that Dallas cannot afford to lose. Dallas is clearly the superior team on paper and must be on the scoreboard if they are playoff bound.

I understand what you’re saying and I do think Jacksonville is a good team but I'm none the less disappointed in the loss because I felt Dallas never gave themselves a real chance to win because of the unforced mistakes and poor play from Bledsoe. I felt we were much better than we played.

After seeing what Jax did to Big Ben, can you imagine what the Jax defense would have done to Tony Romo? He'd still be picking his teeth out of the Jax turf.

Who says we should have beat them?
We certainly should (or at least "could") have played better, but it's far from accurate to say we should have beat them. Jacksonville wasn't a pushover from the begininng - even before we knew they would outplay the Steelers.

Point well taken, however, I believe that if we don't throw any INTs, we handle Jacksonville pretty soundly. Now, that's just my opinion but I think it has merrit.

Agree 100%...we beat ourselves against a very good team. I was very curous how this game would play out because I think it's an early indicator of where we are. Right where I thought...towards the top. If we can clean up our mistakes we have a chance to beat anyone we play.

I agree. There's no way we shouldn't have beat the Jags and that showing last night made me a little more disappointed since we know now that the Jags are, in fact, a force in the NFL.
If anyone says "they knew" Jax would be this good before the season started is lying...especially with that lineup at WR and the loss of Greg Jones.
They have surprised me for sure, but before they print their SB tickets, let's see how they perform against Peyton and the Colts. Peyton hasn't done too well against stout defenses so I think the Jags may pull the upset here.

It's hard to say how things would hav panned out, but without the INT's we certainly should have had a very good chance to beat them.
Of course that kind of statement can be made of any game - if the losing team wouldn't have made mistakes they could have won. We have to be fair and admit that the INT's weren't just unforced errors that the Jags had nothing to do with - they made the plays and deserve the credit.
That said, we obviously can work on those kinds of things and hopefully minimize errors in the future. If we can do that we can be a pretty strong team.

To be fair, there were a few who said that Jacksonville would be good this year and that they might beat us. There were also a few who said that there WRs were going to be good.

I give them credit for making the plays on the INTs, to be sure. I give there offense a lot of credit because our defense could not stop them. However, when you say those errors were unforced, I agree 100%. They deserve credit but I do believe we could have beaten that team without the INTs.
Doesn't matter now. We lost and that's that.

First, if a bad call or even 2 caused us to lay over for the rest of the game then I can't quite get how you think we should have won ......
Second, which calls are you referring to? The Witten call was a good one - I'm not sure why some disagree. He didn't knock the guy on his butt or shove him noticeably out of the way, but that isn't a requirment for interference.
Third, even if they were bad calls, so what? Is that unique to the Cowboys? Bad calls, missed calls and borderline calls happen both ways in every game - many of which fans never see. That's not what determines most games.
The only certain fact is that Jacksonville played better than we did.

I will say that we should have beaten the Jags - We should have put them away with the Bledsoe overthrow of TO but we did not. If we make that TD, BP plays it close to the vest and we have a 17-3 halftime lead and the momentum is all ours.
Now, we did not do that so I am not saying that we are better, just that we had the opportunity to put them away and should have - we did not.
Personnaly I think that the Cowboys have many more weapons to defend against than Pittsburg does. They have one WR who is a threat and have a good Oline and W Parker can break one at any time. Heath Miller is not near what Witten is and Rothlisberger is maybe a step above Bledsoe, but when the defensive coaches sat in the film study before Pittsburg I bet it was an easier gameplan than what they had against Dallas.

Why is that we "should" have put them away? Yes, we had the opportunity, but "should" and "could" are not the same thing. Are we different from any other team that jumps to a lead and fails to hold it. It's not as if Jacksonville wasn't on the field and didn't have anything to do with it.
Once again, we lost because we were outplayed, and fans need to come to grips with the fact that not making the plays we "could" have made doesn't mean we should have won - in fact, us not making those plays and them making some plays of their own is pretty much the definition of being outplayed ......

Owens was wide open on that play - Jax had nothing to do with that overthrow.
The overthrow of Owens is a throw Bledsoe should have made not one he could have made. I could have made that throw - Bledsoe should have made that throw - what was wrong with him I do not know.
Philly should have won the game with NYG - they blew it and did not put them away. I see nothing wrong with saying that.
Washington could have beaten Dallas Sunday night.
When a WR is wide open down the middle of the field that is a throw that any NFL QB should make

Well, I was trying to make that as non confrontational as possible because I did not want to make it a 10 page thread again about who was better - Bledsoe or Rothlisberger.
We have seen one of those here about that subject already!

My only point was, we saw Big Ben last night when he had to work from within the pocket and win the game with his arm.
Not his strength.
