View Full Version : Young possibly makes debut against Cowboys

Mort was just on Countdown and said there is a rumor in the front office that the Titans are going to give Collins this week to get it together or there will be a strong possibility that the Young era begins next week against us. Thoughts? Personally, I like Young and I'd hate for him to get his first start against us.

Mortenson just reported that VY could start against the Cowboys next week if Kerry Collins struggles today.

Heard it too.

The thing that concerns me about having to defense Young is his ability to escape pressure.

Look what Atlanta is doing....they took principles of the Texas Longhorns and West Virginia offense from college and incorporated it into the Falcons offense to get Vick going.

So far so good.

Now do the Titans do the same?????

I know Vince is young and has a lot to learn but I also know he can get on a serious roll if you do not contain him.

We need to be expecting the Titans to make Vince look good which means a spread offense and a lot of shotgun.

There's no reason we should be suprised by a Titans offensive change.

Did u see what Ware did to Bush in the preseason?

Ware, could chase Vince down if he had to. He could tackle him in the open field as well. Then they would have to worry about RW coming up and putting Vince in a body bag.

Bottom line, our D is too big and too fast to get beat by Vince's legs.

It doesn't matter who starts. Neither will have any success.

VY is not nearly as fast as MV, so I don't know how well that would work. I'm a big UT fan, but if he starts, it's better for us to be frank.

Key point is, everyone stay in their lanes. No going off and doing things on your own as a defender - stay in your lane and allow no scrambles to the right and when you hit him, hit him extremely hard.

We will murder Collins also. What was his QB rating last week....1.7
Start Collins, then bring in VY. Double Kill :lmao2:

The Cowboys will see (and sack) both of those Titan QBs.

It is just a question of which one appears (and gets sacked) first.

Weren't all the talking heads saying that Romo would be starting if Bledsoe struggled? What is the source of this conjecture? Opinion? Inside info?

They are just making stuff up again.

But I would love to see Ellis and Ware hammer Young into the turf.

Personally, I like Young and I'd hate for him to get his first start against us.

Ditto, I love the kid, and want to see him succeed.

I wonder if Fisher is on board with the idea of starting Vince so soon? Or if it's all smoke and nonsense.

Collins looks so woeful, I'd prefer to see him...Young's the epitome of inexperience, but he has the ability to make something 'happen', and starting him could psyche up that team.. Collins increasingly reminds me of Frankenstein....and a few more weeks learning the Titan system shouldn't resolve that.

Either way, sooner or later Mr. Young will have to meet Mr. Ware :D , so bring him on.

If you guys think we will sack the **** out of Vince think again he hasnt been sacked yet this year. I like Vince Young but I would also hate to see him start against us, doubt he would have much success...

This horn fan will hurt a little inside everytime he is sacked.

Young should still ride the pine. I really do think it is too early for him to play and throw him to the wolves.

But like Parcells said in response to Henson playing at some point...he just may be a wolf himself  .

If Young starts, he may break a big run or two, but it'll be pick city. Anything less then 3 ints will be a let down for me.

If Collins starts, anything less than 6 sacks would be a dissapointment for me. Most of them should come in the form of coverage sacks.

Either way, it's win / win.

If the Titans are smart, I'd start mr. Collins and rotate Vince in for a couple of series.

this sucks i hope Young doesnt play against us because i'm obviously a huge fan of his and would hate to root against him. Collins isnt playing bad so far so i dont think Young will play much against us anyways. although i think the Titans would have a much better chance of keeping it close for a little while with Vince than with Collins (who for sure will be sacked at least 5 times).

As bad as the Titans are, I don't think he should start at all this year. Maybe it would be good for experience, but I mean taking a beating every week I don't think would be very good for him.

Ditto.

19/33, 269 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT the line on Collins today.

Oh boy, I can't wait to watch Vince Young get slapped around next week!

Hell, we may even sit TO if Young is the named starter.

Unfortunately, this kid is going to get "Drew Henson Treatment" next week with all the tu homers. ;)

"He may have only had 30 yards passing... but... but... but... he did have that one really swell run for 30 yards in the second!" or my favorite... "Tennessee needs to run the option!"

You can't put VY behind a sorry O-Line you will destroy his confidence, not to mention he will get killed especally since teams will blitz him and dare him to beat them with his limited knowledge of NFL reads. Now Collins isn't a slouch no matter where he has played he always seems to beat the cowboys, though I think he fell off the wagon and is a shell of himself, he should call brunell and ask about our pass rush.

ok, first off, the reality is that vince beat A&M every time he played them, and tell me this when was the last time A&M beat UT? honestly im asking cuz it was so long ago i dont even remember! also vince won the same amount of national championships as A&M has in their "storied" history.

putting my emotions aside as a UT/vince fan, i have no doubt in my mind that if vince plays we will clobber him, a sight i really would like to avoid. But at the same time maybe playing an illusive guy like vince will help us out down the road when we have to play the likes of mcnabb and vick(mainly vick since mcnabb is more of a pocket passer now, but there is always the possibility that he will run for it) but anyway i hope to god vince doesnt play, cuz our D will destroy him.

I was listening to John McClain this morning on 610AM in Houston. He said he spoke with Jeff Fisher, and Fisher said that Vince may start against the Texans. Not the Cowboys. Granted, he didn't state when he actually spoke with Fisher, but he called Mort a liar.

I seriously doubt it. If this came to fruition it would come from above Jeff Fisher. It would be absolutely stupid. Vince Young isnt ready to be an NFL QB. I see improvement in his game, but he needs more time and I think it would do more damage to his chances at becoming a real NFL QB if they force him into a starting job now.

I've been in Houston quite a bit lately, and the Texans talk is laughable. They still can't get past Reggie Bush vs. Mario Williams. They also stated that they shot themselves in the foot repeatedly on Sunday to lose the game vs. the Skins.

Giving up over 200 yards rushing is not shooting yourself in the foot. it is poor play:laugh2:

Add 22 straight completions by 36 year old Mark Brunell, and that is definitely salt on the wound.

That was going to be a given when a team can run the ball at will. If you can dominate a team on the ground it makes throwing the ball so much easier because the defender freezes every time you show play-action. Add to that the majority of the passes where high percentage throws.

It would be ridiculous to start him against us and then have Indy salivating in the wings. They need to wait until after their bye when they face the woeful Texans. Besides which, his first start against Houston - ah, the irony....
