Just an idea of the warm welcome TO will receive (700 level website is debating about throwing empty pill bottles)
http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/archives2/017124.html
John Gonzalez, erstwhile Observer sports columnist, is listening to a sports radio station from his native Philadelphia.
Right now, on 610 WIP in Philly, the fans are talking about T.O. Some of the calls are sympathetic. The majority, however, are pathetic. A number of people have chanted "O.D., O.D., O.D., O.D." One guy said he hopes that Owens dies.
I love my city and, as you know, I'm a huge Birds fan. I've taken joy in throwing snowballs at people, and sometimes batteries. And I almost never apologize for our behavior; it's part of our charm, and if you don't like it, you can [unprintable]. But twice in my life I've been ashamed because of our collective behavior. First, when our fans booed Michael Irvin while he was down and immobile on the Vet Stadium turf and people thought he might be paralyzed. Now this thing with T.O.

Eagles fans have a right to be angry with him .. while he wasn't the only problem last year for them he definitely was a major factor. However, anyone wishing someone would die just because they were a bad teammate is just sickening.

The Irvin incident, the Jurevicius incident, etc., etc., makes me hate Philly fans. They need to learn how to separate the game of football from life in general. Football is just a game.

It all honesty, I believe no team would have a championship under that criteria.
I'm sure TO will get no sympathy in Philly. I've lived there before, and they are crazy passionate about football, and that team. After his antics there, I'd fear for him next week.

Eagles fans get way too much attention.
They are not the biggest and baddest and they definitely are not good sports.
Their resume speaks for itself. They always have someone to hate or boo, whatever. THat is their problem.
I still think alot of eagles fans feel guilty because it painfully obvious last year that they chose Owens over mcnabb, but the organization did not. Now they have to live with that.
They are very overated in my opinion and get way too much attention.

TO has now failed at both life AND death. The man can't even kill himself right
ST hit was just too much for him to take.
Is there any player that organization hasnt F'd up?
Same old Cowboys with their same old problems. I thought the soap Dallas had been canceled years ago.
haha this is kinda funny
An attempted TOiside. What a friggin psycho. Can we get this guy outta the league already? His shananigans have reached an alltime high.
One of the few endeavors I wish TO had succeeded in
Most of these comments were made long after it was blatantly obvious that TO didnt try to kill himself

Statements like that sum up Eagles fans. Im not sure which is worse the fact that you throw batteries or the fact that you are clueless enough to admit and think nothing is wrong with occassionally trying to harm a random player from another team by chucking batteries at them.

Just want to note that wasn't me that said that, it was from John Gonzalez (Former Dallas Observer guy). My post is the one that's not in bold.
If you're ever bored check out his interview he did with Carl Everett a few years back, it's a classic!

Eagles fans are worse in the leagues bye far.
Ignorant savage nuckle dragging thugs that cheered when Irvin almost partialized and booed Santa on Christmas eve and stole his gifts for orfans and beat up the Redskins mascaught Chief Z and put him in the hospital emergency critical conditions after hitting him with bricks bats and two by fours in the parking lot a few years back.
They disgusts me up something foul accept on the Chief Z thing I hated that guy bad and always wanted to see whisling Ray punch him in his medicine bag.
They Eagles shouldn't not be laughiung up at T.O.s wrongings and such. Wishing bad things for others is a good way to get Carma to bite on you.
I hope McNabb gets a bad case of crotch rot with pus two!

You know, being a huge Sixer fan lets me see Philly fans from a unique prospective as also being a huge Cowboy fan. They are diehard, moody, and can easily turn on you. Kinda like a pit bull or a rock, lol.
They, and when it comes to the sixers I have to say we, are fiercily devoted to the team. It is an us against the world mentality, one that is unique to Philly. Its like you are always disrespected and bad things are just expected to happen to your team.
Not all Philly fans are as bad as said, most actually sit back and watch the few idiots that do crazy things. Course, people let those few idiots speak for the crowd, which just isn't true.

I'm amazed also Bizwah. Even though I joke around sometimes with certain posters here On the Zone, I agree with Reality and you on this issue. You must be able to discern between a past time and real values.
I'd like to think that all fandoms have elements that are unsavory types. But I've never wished harm to anyone who was not an enemy of the United States during a conflict (I guess we all have our skeletons to deal with).
Unfrotunately, some fans take their emotions to the extreme, confusing a past time for a real-world situation. Regrettably, some fans act out their inhabitions by venting through football-related mediums. Call it venting, transition, and a few other possibilities. But the bottom line is that they are expressing underlying frustrations by over reacting to various situations.
That said, try Not to use personal attacks in my dialogue. I may flame back once in a while, but the key is self discipline. Self-discipline isn't restricted/limited to any particular fandom. People are are unique in many way, but just as similar in many more ways.
To tell you the truth, to classify an entire fandom based on random actions of a few (relatively speaking and by comparison of the total quantity of that target population) is ignorant (lacking information).
One Caveat: Just in case you misunderstood, I'm just saying that for people from any fandom who believe they can stigmatize an entire group based on the actions of a sample quantity, ...is ludicrous.
I'm an Eagles fan, there are many more just like me, unwilling to accept an unrealistic stigma about my entire fandom.
Now watch closely how my point is demonstrated.

I'm in a basketball fantasy league where all of us are sixer fans. We are quite tight, and it is funny to listen to them during football season. But I promise you not all of them are like that, it is funny, when something happens, the first thing we do is say, "oh lord, here come the batteries".
Or, for instance when Kobe was coming to town, "boo every time he touches the ball". It is actually funny, cause the more layed back ones can always predict what the wild ones reactions will be, heck I know everytime. They are so freakin passionate, sports is their life, and the messed up thing is all of that is funny to them.
It really is Philly and everyone else must die.

All the more reason we have to open up a couple of cans of whoop a??, toss in a couple of grenades for good measure, then fix bayonets and charge when we go there next w/e. That'll take the crowd right out of it. TO will play in that game and if he has a big night, all the better. We need to rip out the Eagles heart & piss on the bloody remnants at midfield.
If there was ever a time for BP/Zimmer to let the D run hog wild, this is it. Throw in all of the blitz packages & make up some special ones to boot!

There is no doubt those comments by Eagle and Skins fans are classless.
However, If T.O. was a Redskin kissing up with Danny Snyder a lot of posters on this forum would feel the same way about T.O. that Skins and Eagle fans feel about him right now and many many posters would enjoy seeing our rival squirm because of T.O.'s latest distraction.
Why can't we be intellectually honest and admit that fact and also admit we pull for the helmet and deep down we don't really care who is inside the helmet as long as the player helps us win?
That is human nature and all fans react the same way.

Again, not all of them like that, i have met a man who was a great person but was an eagles fan. But ive met about 15 obnoxious eagles fans to go with him. So i understand that not all eagles fans are like that, but you cant deny the past of your fellow eagles fans of being scum by the many things already described in this thread. Youre ashamed of how Eagles fans are reacting to the T.O. situation, but youre proud of throwing batteries and snowballs in an attempt to injure players, coaches, assistants, etc.? Youre as pathetic as the rest of them.
Are you just talking out loud, or addressing someone in particular?

listen PT: I understand what you are saying, but the FACT is that MOST, not all, but MOST of the eagles fans are scum and dont know life from sport. I agree that Karma bites the overall eagle fandom in the butt every year when they dont win the super bowl.
Your calculation denotes 1 Eagles fan out of every 15 are obnoxious ...that's absurd. Your random selection process is not a fair representation. First, you'd have to know the total number of all Eagle fans ...then determine a method to differentiate the obnoxious from the Great ones, good ones, mediocre one, etc.
Good luck with that one. Of course you could just clump all Eagle fans into one and take the easy way out.

Kind of like when the entire Dallas Cowboys team and organization was villified as criminals when actually it was only 2 or 3.

But as for Eagles fans, they are indefensible. I could tell you story after story about things that I have witnessed at Eagles' games or from Eagles' fans (in fact I have, in numerous threads). We could start with the "O-D! O-D!" or "TO suicide" phone calls, instant messages and e-mails that I received yesterday. Or the countless Cowboys fans who I have seen beaten to a pulp at the games. Or the seven year old kid with the Cowboys hat who had beer dumped on him. Or.. heck I just don't have enough time or energy to tell you everything that I've seen.
Suffice it to say, the reason there are so many Cowboys fans in the Philadelphia area has more to do with not wanted to be associated with classless, obnoxious and ignorant fans as anything else. Present company excluded, of course. ;)

That's the problem. No one does anything about it when these idiots are spitting on Fans, pouring beer on them, throwing batteries, etc...

Those personal experiences that you've described are criminal acts that warrant incarceration. It's incomprehensible for anyone to assault another person under the guise of a football fandom. I'd report such behavior regardless of fandom association.
Look, crime is crime, I'm wouldn't limit acts of violence and ignorance under the auspices of football fandom association ...that's ignorant in itself ...Present company excluded, of course. ;)

I'll say this up-front ...there's no excuse for violence toward opponent fandoms, under any circumstances.
That said, I know that most of you have already made up your minds, I'm not making any attempts to change that. However, Philadelphia is a very tough town.
TheSkaven is from South Philly (he moved to another part of town -- so did I), so he can tell acknowledge what I'm saying. Just walking down the street minding your own business you could "easily" get into a fight ...and with another Philadelphian (regardless of your fandom affiliation). Is that madness ...yes; but you either run away all of your life, or you stand and fight!
Again, simply walking down the street and encountering another male approaching you, had the potential to become highly confrontational. No One will move Out of the way for the Other ...but even if you do, there's a Good chance that the other person will step back In front of your path and confront you. Chances are you'll be asked if you live around in that neighborhood. The Next question is can you spare some money (the difference is that they are not panhandling, they just want an excuse to escalate the situation Into a physical altercation).
I'm going to stop the scenario at this point because if you aren't from Philly, you wouldn't believe what I'd tell you next. But I will tell you that in professional boxing, most amatuers and professionals in most states and boxing associations will tell you that South Philadelphia (not just Philadelphia)
gymnasiums have some of the toughest boxing gyms in the country. That's no lie!
I'm not a boxer, never have Been, but as I trained in the martial arts, I was always able to hit my opponent easily because of what I learned On the streets of SouthWest Philadelphia.
Tell themif I'm being disengenuous TheSkaven. The point here ...again, it's not an excuse ...the mentality in South Philly (that's where the Linc is, and the Vet was, located) is toughness. It shouldn't Be tolerated ...but all Eagle fans are not from South Philly, and all Eagle fans do not participate in that type of violence. Everyone is responsible for their own behavior.

It is an interesting phenomenon, a tough town expects alot from its toughest sport. Understandable, but that doesn't make up for some actions. They are passionate, and live and die with their team. To some of them, the eagles is life itself.
It has always been easy for me to see why Iverson, not McNabb, is the city's favorite son. The toughest little man to probably ever play the game is in the right city where it can be appreciated.
