I think he said something to the effect of "That was borderline assult"

He mentioned the Fisher "promise".
Said he didn't think the league would suspend him. Probably a large fine (25,000).
Collinsworth chimed in and said it had no place in football and seemed outraged the league would not suspend him. didn't believe it. Also said the police should arrest Haynesworth for that. "slap the cuffs on him"
King then comes back with "that's why i think Fisher will take hte matter into his own hands and suspend him" or something to that effect.
i don't think King has a clue (as usual)

Leave Haynesworth alone. I dont think stomping on a player is such a big deal.

King says a hefty fine around $25,000, but no suspension from the NFL.

No, today's NFL will only really get strict on a player if they wear the wrong color socks or don't tuck in their shirts.

We have players getting suspended 4 games or an entire season for being on the crank... but assault on another player is only going to get a $25k fine and no suspension? I sure hope the league doesn't just give that fine and a slap on the wrist. Drugs are worse than assault? wow. just wow.
I know Fisher will enforce some kind of suspension regardless, but IMO the league should be doing it.

I see an eight game suspension with at least a 75K fine. Anything less would be unsatisfactory. This was assault with intention to harm.

I lost the last .00000000000000000001% of respect I had for Peter King with that statement and attitude when he said it. IMO he's doing thethe league's dirty work and putting out feelings for what they need to do to make a minimum statement on this. This will come down to fan perception and what impact it has on the league. The last thing they want to publicize is the thug mentality that's been condoned for too long.
Anyone remember the D Woodson $75K hit from the Seattle game (D.Jackson?) Wonder how this stacks up? My guess is the fine is less

Gurodes head bounced off his helmet, he could of had a serious neck injury.
If this happend to a Manning, Tom Brady or Mcnabb Hayneswoth would be gone for the year

I distinctly remember Darren Woodson catching a $25,000 fine for a hit that wasn't even in the same ballpark as this assault.
If this gets a $25,000 fine and no suspension, the new NFL commissioner is a joke.

Funny you should mention the DW fine, I was thinking of that one myself. One big difference is that the fine against DW should ne3ver have been levied in the first place (IMHO), it was a clean football hit on an active football play.
In the Haynesworth situation, that was simply a blatant intent to harm after a play was over. I don't care about a fine on Haynesworth as much as I do a suspension for at least 8 games. The lost income from a suspension would amount to far more than the league's cowardly front office would have the ball$ to impose.

King is on drugs. Darren Woodson got 50K for leading with his helmet on a WR (I think it was Jackson of Sea) - and that was during a play!

Yeah, I agree.
The replay seems to show that Haynesworth not only removes Gurode's helmet, but stabs him in the face with his cleat and then, apparently unsatisfied with his first attempt, proceeds to do it once more.
A mere $25,000 fine would be a travesty. As you said, that suggests this sort of dirty act is equivalent to any ole helmet-to-helmet hit.
The NFL shouldn't leave this punishment in Fisher's hands.

Did he even try to give a reason as to why he did it?

wow....the league would really be making an example out of him (end sarcasm)

Levying only $25,000 fine would be a joke. Couple of years back Aikman got fined $40,000 for not wearing the league required colored socks. No matter what the fine is, certainly several game suspension must go with it or the NFL just condoned any actions players take against each other. Of course it was done to a Cowboy player so NFL will temper its reaction. Had a Cowboy player done what Haynesworth did the NFL would investigate, come up with a new rule and suspend the guy for remainder of the season.

Imagine if Roy Williams had done this to someone. They already made a rule against him specifically for tackling a certain way. I guess he would be banned from the game forever for stomping on someone.

No suspension?
So what would King suggest is worth a suspension?
Moron. This guy is a terrible sportswriter. The Skins would agree with that.

If the punishment is only 25,000 then the owners need to take this up in the offseason. Pass a rule with set penalties for those types of things.

For the guys jumping up and down and bagging on Peter King.
Did Peter say no suspension and 25k fine because that is what HE feels should be done.
OR
Is that what he thought the League would do?
Just because someone predicts what they think the league will do does not mean they are the ones saying that is what they think should happen.
I think I am sending out pez dispensers with valium to some fellow fans.:D

We have a new commissioner now and this will show how he is going to run things. With Tags I would not expect a long suspension unless the assult was against a Redskins player. Let's see what Goodell has now.

BP, don't bring up pills around this group after the T.O. incident from last week.
I just missed all of what King had said andfrom what little I saw, I think he was trying to predict what the NFL was going to do, not what he would do.

You are probably right about the pills...besides I want to keep them for myself.:p:
I would also imagine King was just saying what he figures the league would do as well.
People just wig out a little too much before thinking about stuff sometimes. (not talking about Alberta, talking about fans ripping on king over THIS topic)
