I thought this would be a nice break from the usual.

In 1965, Tom Landry was having a problem deciding who to start at QB. He tried Don Meredith for a while...then got into his shuttle system, alternating plays between Craig Morton and Jerry Rhome.

He then decided to start Morton vs the Packers in a game that has perhaps one of the most unusual stats in NFL history.

The game was played in County Stadium. Morton completed 10 of 20 pases for 61 yards and was sacked 9 times for a total loss of 62 yards. That left the Cowboys with total passing yards of MINUS 1.

Bart Starr, his counterpart for the Packers, hit only four of 19 for 42 yards, lost 52 yards being sacked for a passing total of MINUS 10 yards.

SO, the combined passing yards for both teams in the game was MINUS 11.

Green Bay won the game, 13-3.

Yeah but he was awful in big games...and he had the Bledsoe disease of ZERO mobility and he'd get careless with the ball.

Against the Broncos in the Super Bowl, the Cowboys knew exactly how to defend their ex-QB....pressure, pressure and more pressure.

Never knew that Juke. It almost seems unreal given today's passer oriented offenses.

Reminds me of the FSU - Miami game this year, only with rushing totals. That had to be some sort of record for combined rushing futility. It set offensive football back several decades.

I just read it today...I never knew it either.

Whacky stat though. And one I'd assume would never be broken.

Where did you get your stats from? Sacks weren't an official stat in 1965.
