Why don't we line up the TE on LA and Flo's side more to open up the running game? Those two were just crunching everyone in front of them. Meanwhile, we were running behind Gurode and Tucker who were getting no movement at all on the right.

It's preseason. I'm sure we will run plenty of 2 TE sets to keep the defense guessing which side we are running 2.

We did that quite a bit last season and it is one of Parcells' favourite formations due to the balance it presents to the defense. However, I'm talking about lining up with a TE on Flo's shoulder with a FB in the backfield to lead Jones through the gaping hole that will be created. It just seems that we aren't utlizing our strengths - Flo and LA are probably the best OT/OG combo in the league when it comes to run blocking and yet we spend all our time running behind Gurode and Tucker.

Maybe we'll run more to the left during the regular season?

Only problem with that is, if you do it too often it is rather obvious where you are going to run the ball.

I'm sure we will. In preseason, you want to try and win the game, but you also need to evaluate a lot of players and the only way to do that is to call plays that involve them and see how they perform. I'm sure that is why we ran more to the right.

This may be a case where you don't have to deceive the defense for the play to be effective. Back in the 90s with Emmitt running behind our OL everyone in the park knew what play was going to be called but the defense still couldn't stop it due to superior talent and execution. I think this is a situation where we have such a huge power advantage over every DL in the league that we would be stupid not to maximize it. Let them know that we are going to be left-handed running team and dare them to stop it. They'll have to over-commit to the run and that should open up Payton's play-action pass system that we could not use last year because no one respected our running game.

the time to work on the run-right is now. before the games count. they will run behind flo and larry plenty once the real season starts. frankly, i thought the right side did a good job considering how low my expectations for them were entering this game. the line protected vinny very well. and he responded by lighting up the tennessee secondary. except for the INT he threw - he was friggin' fabulous.
