View Full Version : Pass Interference

When is the last time anyone has heard a ref call a ball uncatchable thus nullifying the PI call? It has been years since I have heard that.

And another thing, it seems that the strategy for Dallas opponents this year will be the same as the past several years, just throw it up for grabs and odds are they will get a PI penalty.

And sadly it works

The NFL needs to make a move. If the referees are going to continue throwing a flag on nearly every play, people are simply going to get tired of watching football. They need to scale it back when the season starts. It's no fun this way.

By the way, I didn't see the final numbers, but I'm sure the Cowboys had twice the penalties the Titans were called for, some really ticky tack. Hunter's interference, Johnson's holding, Witten's motion, Al Johnson's holding on the other side of the field....these were all penaties that didn't have to be called, and 80% of the time, would not.

It is not just the Cowboys I have noticed in many pre-season games teams are throwing the deep ball and getting the benifet of the pass interferance rule

It seems the league is intent of making this a league of "John Madden" video game clones, where teams can roll up 500 yds and 60 pts every week...the penalty thing is absolutely ridiculous...I dont think I've seen a single preseason game yet where there werent at least 20-25 penalties called

The other problem is there is definitely a major bias against the Cowboys with the officials...they might call alot of picky stuff on our defenders, but they dont call it that way on the other team...and offensively we had several phantom calls against us last night

Maybe I am biased but I don't see the same ticky-tack calls on other teams. Remember Kevin Smith? Teams came to expect a penalty when they threw it in his direction, like the Cardinals in 1998 on the last play of that 35-28 game. It seems ever since, the 'other' corner, has been severely penalty-prone. If your name is not Deion or Newman, watch out.

If I were an OC in the NFL, my entire game plan would consist of throwing it 30 yards each play and hope for pass interference. Hell, it will work.

When Michaels and Madden state after an incomplete pass, "and there is no flag", you know the NFL has gone too far.

I am hoping these PI calls are being called extra tight in the pre-season to get the players' attention. Hopefully, the refs will be a little more lenient once the regular season starts.

Hey.....I can hope anyway.

Actually, they really didn't need to be extra tight. They just need to call it correctly. They are sooo inconsistent. Just give me some consistency and I'll take my medicine like a woman.

The Steelers cut a DB today (Terry Fair or something). I say pick him up. I don't know him but he played for Bill Cowher and anything is better than those guys we have on the right.

They did need to do something about it, as the Colts should have been playing in the Super Bowl last year, and they got worn out all day with no-calls that should have been called, but not like they're doing now.

I agree. Some of these plays that are flagged are getting downright pop warner-esque in their severity. I just "hope" the refs are trying to send an early message and then loosen up a little in the regular season.

This stuff has been hashed around the league for months.

I don't think anyone shoiuld really be surprised they are calling it tight right now.

I think they will let up some as the season goes but their will not be a SB like last years for a long time.

I think they are going too far but the muggings had to stop.

As I said those WRs who are quick and little who have been mugged will have some big years. If Marvin Harrison can catch 100+ balls under the old system God help us when we play the Colts.

Our defensive backs almost never look back towards the LOS and it has been going on for years. You've got to point fingers at Jerry Jones and Zimmer, because JJ apparently can't scout cornerbacks (unless the 5th pick overall drops in his lap) and Zimmer has either been the secondary coach or DC during most of this hideous run.
