View Full Version : Romo=Favre v.2.0?

I said this in another post and I'll say it in this one. Romo's Favre impression doesn't end with the skit he did for NBC. It is obvious that he has done his best to clone Brett's skills to his own.

Notice the pace of his drop back. Where his hands are holding the football (tight to his chest). The rhythmic bounce in his feet pacing the pass rush "clock". The head tuck on ball release. The follow through "point" to target.
It's really uncanny. I don't see any other relevant comparisons (pennington, bulger). No his arm is not as strong , but accuracy is outstanding.

This is a case of a kid cloning his hero in his back yard. If he can play near to the way he did tonight each week... we CAN compete against ANY team.

Theres no question Romo is talented and has brett favre like skills and looks like he can be a really good Quarterback, the only question is whether he can play good on a consistent basis. And I believe he can...

Actually, I can agree in some respects. Romo does mimic Favre quite well, that isn't a bad thing as some like to say. Favre is one of the most popular, mulit-talented QBs of all time.

Kinda reminds me of how a young Kobe mimics MJ, right down to the fade away jumper, asking hints from MJ as to how to get it off.

Noone is like anyone else, but at least we can be aware of the similarites. Romo is the kinda guy that can make fans of other teams like him, kinda like Favre. It is hard to hate Favre if you are a true fan.

Hopefully the kid can make a name for himself.

I like the Comparison, I just hope he can bring one home for us like Favre did.

He grew up in Wisconsin and idolizes Favre (understandable), I wonder if he dreams of being Favre's eventual replacement? Not that I would blame him but those are big shoes to fill.

Never know. Perhaps, but from a player's prospective this game comes down to who signs your check.

You bring up an interesting point. WHAT IF......Romo plays the next 10 games with similar stats/results to last night. How much will he be worth for his next contract? Does someone bet the ranch (pun intended) to sign him long term based on 10 games? Or, risk letting him get away to someone else willing to over pay?

That impression was hilarious, though.I agree. I wish we could see more stuff like that from him. It helps when a player is "humanized" as just a big kidder.

I actually think it's more about the size of the check than who signs it.

Just seeing him almost does it. Far from the stoic field general, he's out there having fun. I'm sure he's cracking jokes out there (as Favre is known for) just based on his demeanor. In the PC, he was just thrilled to be up there, and that energy has to be contagious.

He needs a barber, though. Looks like he fell on some shears.

Only 1 in the playoffs? 9 more games and if he plays as well as yesterday he'll deserve a fat contract from Jerry. It's one game. The clock can still strike midnight, but I don't expect it to on this kid. He may not ever be mentioned in the same breath as Manning and Brady, but he competed hard, played well, and acted great, and that's all you can ask.

True, but JJ doesn't have a problem giving out the cheese if you are a player.

I wasn't thinking about the playoff, just bad math. My point was more about "the rest of the season". I tend to agree with you though. IF he plays well throughout, Jerry should roll the dice and get him signed long term.

I do still think we should look at QB in the Draft, though not a sell the farm kind of trade to go get the top guy. As much as I'd love to have a QB like Quinn, I don't want that at an exhorbitant price.

Yes, if we are lucky he WONT be like the soon to be NFL INT king.

Favre has thrown 260 INTs so far in his career (not counting the playoffs). George Blanda holds the all-time INT record with 277. The difference is that Favre has also thrown 406 TDs compared with Blanda's 236.

Interestingly enough, Blanda held both the single season TD and INT records for many years (still holds the INT record with 42). Even stranger was that they were in consecutive years. He threw 36 TDs in 1961 then 42 INTs in 1962.

Favre might not catch Blanda if he continues to play like he has so far and retires after the season. He only has 5 INTs this year and is on pace to have his fewest ever in his career with 11 if he keeps the same pace (he has thrown 13, his lowest total, in 3 different seasons). His highest season was last year with 29. He needs 17 more over the rest of this season (9 games) to catch Blanda. Not that he couldn't do it but he is playing pretty well so far.

If he continues to play after this season then there is no doubt that he will hold the career records for both INTs and TDs.

All that just to say that I hope Romo is better at avoiding INTs than Favre.
