View Full Version : Romo: I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for Drew

got that right!
Drew's horrible performance on the field led directly to Romo starting.
And what's up with Bledsoe wearing that coat on the sideline?
was it REALLY THAT cold???
I think he is so ashamed of himself, the coat just gave him an excuse to hide.
Instead of a star on the back of that jacket, it should have a big "L" for Loser...that's the way he is behaving now.
I don't think he is sincere in wanting to help Tony based on what I have seen on the sidelines.

I think if Drew wanted to be chicken about it he would walk and leave Dallas in a bad situation with nothing behind Romo. Drew made mistakes and lost his job because of it I don't see the need in slamming him at this stage.

I don't get it. Is there any reason rooting for one player you have to trash the other guy? It's not all or nothing. He filled a need for a while, and now he's your backup QB. He's been in the league and a model citizen for 14 years? Any reason to trash him?

that is obvious, but Drew probably helped Romo last year by osmosis and also Drew held up the fort (from total collapse) while Romo progressed enough to step in. Lets keep in mind if not for a meltdown vs SEA and/or missed FGs we were a playoff team last year.
Drew has been classy and i'm a critic of him passing the ball but fans need to be more respectful of him on the sidelines... lets not act like Skins/Eagle fans.
Drew was being useful last night, told Tuna he's here for the team and is gonna help. What more do you want in a benched backup?

Drew Bledsoe has been a class act. All those reports of him leaving cause he can't start is nonsense.
Every athlete wants to play forever. But I think deep down, Bledsoe knows his time has come. He looked like he came to terms with his own mortality last night. He also knows if he wants to prolong his career, his best interest would be to be a good soldier and follow the general's orders.
Romo may or may not be the long term solution, let's give him the rest of the year to show what he has.

I watched the post game news conference and I did not see Romo struggling with any question about Bledsoe. You act as if you want Bledsoe to be happy about this? No player is going to be happy about being benched and if he was happy about it he would not be much of a competitor.

The nice thing about a moronic post/thread like this is that we can see how many reasonable people are actually here. This poster is either a teenager or a Philthy or Foreskin fan with the normal lack of class. I've been on the bandwagon to give Romo a shot and Bledsoe drove me crazy. However, he has handled the situation as well as anyone could. He's shown a lot more class than most could or would.

What I saw when I looked at Bledsoe was a guy that realized Romo was better than him at this point, and a guy struggling with the fact his career may be over.

Exactly. In the case of Carr he will get a chance next week against the Giants to start and in large part because of the investment Houston has in him and he is still fairly young. In Bledsoe case he was never going to be our future only the guy playing until the future was ready. None the less Bledsoe is a competitor and no competitor will ever be happy about getting benched
This is a complete non-issue. Drew's already replied that he doesnt agree with the decision, but it's done, and now he just wants to help the team win. End of story.
If Drew's pressed into service and thrust back in in an emergency, I'd bet they'll be plenty of fans giving him some love.

I think any bashing of Bledsoe for anything beyond his performance is just silly. One could easily turn that right back on Romo who was seen smiling and chatting it up with T.O. on the sideline while the Cowboys were getting the crap beat out of them, partly due to Bledsoe's performance. It would be easy to say he was a little slimmy to be slinking around in the background constantly talking to T.O., being a politician for his future cause, but to suggest that would be small and unfair.
To say anything negative about Bledsoe is equally small...I take Tony at his word that Bledsoe has treated him fairly and helped him over the past two years, even if it wasn't in the midst of his own misery on that Monday night he was benched...to expect more of a competitor is equally silly. Try benching Roy Williams the next time he has a coverage meltdown and see if he's standing on the sidelines giving advice to the kid who takes his place.
I think Bledsoe will be fine...no, I don't think he had that coat on to hide...he's the only player on the entire sideline who's never going to step on the field unless there's an injury...Romo is now the man...hopefully he gives us plenty more of what we saw on Sunday...hopefully people will be fair to him when he has his first bad game, and he will...they all do...it's time to stop looking for things to attack and in this situation...they're both professionals.

It is a double whammy for Drew as he knows he might not get another shot to start in the NFL and it is hard to give up the game he has been a starter in for the last oh 20 years easily.
He didn't just lose his job, he might have lost his career.

Romo wasn't the guy that was benched.
OH, so you're to be a happy professional and support the other guy when you get benched after 14 years, but if you're the inexperienced young guy who wants the other guy's job, then it's okay to slink around the sidelines palling it up with guys you think will support your cause?
You can argue this any way you like, but I'll tell you from history you're wrong. Staubach and Morton didn't support each other or even talk to each other much, and I saw them both benched on numerous times.
Romo is going to help us win games...we need Bledsoe as he's the only guy besides Testiverde that could even come in and run the plays if Romo goes down.

Hmmmm... I heard Madden say Romo had a release like Cool Joe too. Ugh. Tuna must have had a miraculous recovery, as so bummed and depressed and lethargic he managed to get his team to eek out a 35-14 road win against a legitimate playoff team.
Either way that is just opinion and speculation. OTOH the analogy of comparing a prize fighter to a head coach is beyond silly. :)

I think Drew was wearing the jacket to try and stay "warmed-up", in case he needed to go in. I saw him talking to Romo, seemed like he was doing as you would expect a 14 year vet. to do. Of course Drew didn't want to stay in Buffalo and groom a QB, he wanted to START! Plus, it's not like Buffalo was going to pay his huge $ to be the back up....just like Dallas isn't gonna pay that huge $ next season to him if Tony works out.
I was all for the change at QB, at least to see if Romo was the answer. I still believe Drew could play if we had a SOLID line.
I think Drew will be the next "Jeff George" cannon for a arm QB just looking for a place to fill in......thats my thoughts..
